oxycontin....can this be?

I used oxy one time about 7 days ago, i used too much im sure, i took 40 mill tablet whole then i split another 40 and took half of it so total i took 60. I think i defeated the time release by splitting that last one but it was not intional, Ive never done anything like this before so it was a shock when my body starting shutting down and i mean i was in panic, it was just way too much to enjoy, so lesson learned, however, i felt like absolute **** for 7 days following, i had all the signs of having a withdrawl,dizzy, dirreah, headache, nausea, lost appetitte, aches and pains, is this common to last as long as this? or is this just a side effect or what? i cant imagine im having withdrawls to something ive had only once, anyone have a similar experience or any comments?

No, I never heard of that. I have a brother and a friends who crushes ans snorts them to get high and they are fine the next day. you might be allergic to them or caught the flu and it's coincidence. But my advice to you is don't f***ing start on them! Nothing good will come from it!

they shoot em up as well. me and my fiance used to snort them. good to catch a high, but all the nausia and puking isnt worth it.

I absoltely adore the high I get from oxy's and percocet. I feel like singing and dancing and...well you get the picture.
My question is that this high doesn't last very long anymore. AT one time it would last for hours, now if I get two hours of that great high, I feel lucky. It's not like I'm totally straight, however that buzz I crave, love just isn't there. So, I take a few more, and get a little bit of a buzz, but nothing compared to the first so called hit of the day.
Does anyone else have these experiences? Would someone out there answer this and let me know and if you have found a way around it also let me know.

i take offence to you calling me 'stupid'. Granted you have a right to your opinion, and you very well might have something. However, have you ever heard of a drug addict? I have tried on several occasions to get off this stuff, going to detox, etc.
In fact before even trying this drug, I was in NA and was clean for almost nine years!
Yes, I am in the grips of addiction, and no I am not using this as excuse. However, I find you narrow-minded and callous reply to my simple questio to be uncalled for.
I will interperate your way of trying to show that you 'care', as much as one stranger to another.

toronto gal... I think that Jerry had your best interest at heart but he didn't choose his words very well. Pain medications are medicines that help people who are in pain to live as close to a normal life as they possibly can. These medicines are highly addictive physically, to all who use them, and mentally addictive to many who use them. I have read that young females are in the highest group for mental addiction. Mental addiction means that the person has a craving for the drug. The mentally addicted will do many things that they normally would not do to aquire them...just look at all the stories about people killing one another just so they can get another dose...another high that takes more and more to aquire. What Jerry was saying is that many people have asked questions like you are asking and many of those people end up at the morgue...please...don't use these medicines just to get high...they have a use, but only under strick controls through a doctor. They are not made to play around with. Take care..

The time release function of oxycontin is still intact if you cut the pill in half. The pill has a honeycomb structure to it. The outer-coating can be compromised while still allowing for time released delay. What you experienced is a mystery. I have been cutting pills in half for many months, as I have been on oxycontin for a total of 21 months. I have been vastly schooled in the all aspects of oxycontin, and it is widely approved by all those in the know that cutting an oxycontin pill in half, does NOT turn the oxycontin pill into a short-acting drug, such as oxycodone. Thus, it is possible your reaction was due to something else?

In fact I have cut 40mg pills into quarters, to make them into 10mg pills, with no issue what so ever. The outercoating is quickly eaten away by the acids in your stomach and intestine. Thus, you may have sped up the "initial" release of the drug, but the long-term effects of the drug, that is the honeycomb structure of the drug still took it's normal 6-8 hours to be metabolized.

Since you're in Tucson, you would be wise to contact Dr. Robert C. Osborne. He has been practicing pain management for over 30 years and has been a wonderful mentor in my treatment and is generally regarded as the "go to guy" for pain syndromes. I was at 240mg or 80x3.

Cutting pills in half is a very common practice, and one that you will find to be the norm when it comes to board certified pain specialists. It's often the only way to get the proper dosage required.

If you ask your personal physician he will scoff at the idea and say that you're going to kill yourself. Your best bet is to call up Dr. Osborne here in Tucson and discuss with him your issues. He is a very understanding doctor, very inexpensive, and takes a very active roll in each patient he treats.

However, the next day I have never felt like a bigger piece of shit. I had to leave work by noon because I couldn't keep my eyes open and I was so sick to my stomache

I have a good friend who has been struggling with an Oxy addiction for the last year. Its awful to see him go through this. He's had so many health problems because of it. I've gone back and forth about cutting him out of my life because I can't handle it. But I'm too nice of a person to just leave him hanging. How do you deal with an addict? I try to act cool with it at times because I'm afraid he'll just lie to me. But then when I hear the truth, it breaks my heart.

I have a brother who has been a drug user and heavy drinker most of his life. Lots of people have tried to help him but it never works. I think it is like the old saying goes, until the person realizes their problem and wants to stop, there is no way to help them. They have to admit that they have a problem and solve it themself. It is very sad.

You guys snorting oxy should watch out. An oxycontin overdose is not a fun way to die. You will slowly stop breathing, and unless you are given emergency treatment you will certainly die a painful death.

The people you read on this board that take oxy in a recreational manner are users that are considered "OPIOD TOLERENT." This means their bodies have become used to using oxycontin, at a certain level.

Thus when one takes 40mg's in an illegal fashion they'll survive it.

However be warned: Just because your body sustained 40mg by inhalation, does not mean you'll survive it a second time.

It is highly common for opiod abusers to use a certain dosage for months, and for reasons still unknown to physicians this same "standard" dose will kill the user.

Thus, you are much better off staying away from oxycontin.

As a last note: When oxycontin is crushed and injected, you are not only injecting oxycodone (the active ingredient in oxycontin) but also "wax" which is what forms the oxycontin honeycomb structure.

When this wax reaches the small veins and capillaries in your body it clogs and causes clots. These clots can break off and lodge in your heart or brain causing a massive stroke, or death. Thus, while you may not die from injecting oxycontin you may spend the rest of your life in a "care home" or worse, in a situation in which half of your body is out of your control.

In such a situation, when air is blocked from reaching the brain via a clot, be it wax or blood, it's unlikely that you'll reach help in time for any rehabilitation to be of help.

Main point: Buyer beware. Each time you use oxycontin, there is no guarantee that you'll wake up to "feel like crap" the next day.

If you have a problem deal with it, before it deals with you. There are many ways to have a good time, without involving narcotics. Smoke Pot, drink alcohol, but when you mess with opiods, or cocaine you're just being stupid.

I am not happy with the fact that I feel I can't function (even the smallest of chores) without them. That's aside from the buzz I get.
I'm friggin 'fraid of coming down, and what I would have to deal with when it also comes to the pain I deal with on a regular basis.

Hey:

I began taking Oxy for a dislocated shoulder and soon began abusing. No crushing, no snorting, no injecting...only continued to take Oxy for about 5 months after I actually needed it for pain. A couple of days ago, I skipped a day intentionally and I absolutely began to feel like shit and very, very, very anxious. I immediately flushed the rest of my oxy down the toilet (probably about $3000 worth street value). My only point is the following: I was probably considered a very mild abuser of this shit and I am on day 4 now without it and I am still feeling terrible (but better). If the withdrawal from my use is this bad, I can't imagine the withdrawal from a heavy user of this devil-drug. I only write this to encourage anyone abusing this to try your best to stop and see professional help as soon as you can to get off of it. You can't be on this stuff for the rest of your life. I know it's easier said than done. But I really feel that I was flirting with really becoming addicted and using heavily and I'm so happy I flushed it all in time. THERE IS STILL TIME FOR ALL! Life if better on the other side.

I went to rehab****detoxed and changed everything about my life. That's what it took for me to get better and a program works. Sober is the new cool!
All of hollywood is starting t catch on.
Stay away from that crap. It's made to people who realy are in a lot of pain..otherwise , the devil is winning the game!

I have extreme back, hip, butt and leg pain from 2 failed back surgerys, no one will fix me as I think they messed up with the hardware they put in me, the hardware is not straight and they were suppose to take the disk out and I feel because of the angled hardward the disk is pushing on my spinal nerves causing me this pain. I started oxy a couple of months ago after trying other meds that didn't work or made me a zombie, the oxy works a little so I can do some very simple things in life like take a shower or cook dinner, I'm still hurting but at least I can do simple tasks. I'm on mg 3 x a day. I am very thankful for this drug and I really think I should take a stronger dose but the pain dr won't up it anymore. I'm going to try and get into the mayo hospital in AZ to see if they can fix me but if I'm like this the rest of my life at 56 and my pain gets even worse I don't know what I will do. I'm on a anti-depressant and a anti-sezer med, this has helped the burning and my mood.
What I'm asking is my phamacy would not give me 10 mg pills even when the nurse had called and asked if they would, so I got the 20mgs which was on the RX so my question to anybody is can you cut the 20 in half as I was taking 30mg in the morning.

well i agree and disagree with a lot of you.. i think that this is a very good drug and a very distict high, i snort them occasionally and i really dont have to much problem with them it is just like every other drug like cocaine even alchol just have a good time with them and no more just keep that in mind all of you.
