I just got my 30mg Oxycodone script filled and when I went to open the pill bottle I noticed they were a white round pill (ETH/446) instead of the light blue pill that I have been getting for the last year. When it came time to crush the poor guy it was very disturbing to find out the bastard is wearing armor and is hard as hell to crush and takes damn near a bowling ball to "get R done" Some body please tell me 1: Why would my pharmacy change to these? 2: Is there any easy way to get these to crush? 3: My buddy told me that by crushing or chewing these will ruin the pill and I will not get the full amount of oxy because of the way it was made, and I will only get half my dose, is this true? 4: Can I call different pharmacys next time I go and get my script filled and find out if they will fill my script with the light blue brand and not these white ETHEX brand? And finally 5: What is the brand name of the very light blue oxy 30's I have been getting? ANY help in answering these questions would be helpful! Thanks.

Not true...use a pill crusher...It shouldnt affect the dose delivered. Actually, I find them more appealing at times. If the pill crusher leaves it too flaky, then you can dump it out and crush it smooth with something.

Do some 'real' research on the web and you might even call the mfg or the rep firm that sells them. There is a push to formulate opiates in ways that make abuse difficult if not impossible. Not sure if that will ever happen but, they definitely have the money for R&D. |

Thanks for the advice. So a pill crusher will actually crush these? I didnt think it would because I almost feel as if a sturdy cup will break! How about next time I get them filled, can I call around to see if the light blue ones are in stock?

You need to tell your pharmacy that you script is for the 30mg ethex brand name they gave you generic its cheaper to give out generic then brand name most pharmacys want to give you generic and not brand name there is a box on the scripts that can get checked and they wont give you generics your doc has to put a check mark in the box and they wont give you generics anymore. Good luck |

Thanks Ang for having my back. Its not that I abuse my meds, Its just that I need them to kick in when I have severe pain and not 5-10 mins later. Most of the time I can feel the pain comming and I will just chew them up but I got to admit, I kinda like the feel and drain taste when I toot them. What is another good brand besides Activas?

This kind of junk comes with the territory. You just have to ignore it. If you take it personally and respond you will NEVER win the argument. You'll waste your positive energy (wow psychedelic man) on someone who refuses to listen. Their viewpoint is one of ignorance. That's not to say that I agree with abusing them or taking them for recreation - because I don't. I'm also not a hypocrite because we've all been there and done that. But I hope I'm smarter by changing my path and straightening up my act. Opiates are a wicked hook. They pull you in and teach you to trust them and then when you realize that you can't it's too late. The road always ends at the same place addiction/dependency and withdrawals. If you can avoid it, please do! Suboxone rules! www.suboxone.com |
|
It is a long road too, if your even LUCKY enough find the end of it. Hey Dogfart, check out the thread "I am back from the doctor" jai215 posted on thier suboxone appt. All is good. Another one on thier way back to sobriety. I always thought that word applied to alcoholics.

After a few days of taking the ETHEX brand I am actually getting used to it. The first pill of the day has a bit if a sting but the rest are ok. It seems like there is a lot more filler to these. I still get the same relief from these as I would the light blue oxys so I guess I can not complain. I will try to get a better brand next time and will do my research over the net before doing so. I have been on heavy meds since 2004 and got off them for a year and then had a work injury to my back and made a decision to get back on the narcs. Good day or night my friends.

If everything is documented with a doctor, bring the proof to a pain management clinic and hope that its a doctor who thinks more about the patients than the DEA!

Hi, I have a few questions for the *actual* pain patients that are crushing their pills.
What made you start doing it? How fast does the medication take effect? How long does the medication last, compared with swallowing the pill orally? Doyou have to cut your dose up to begin (half?) with or do you take the same dose through the nose as you would have orally? I suffer from 4 autoimmune diseases and am being treated pallatively (meaning...there is nothing they can do for me aside from helping reduce or (ha) manage my pain). I don't want to get high, but I am curious if this would speed the effects of the dose. I'm already pretty sure that the first 2-3 times (more or less) I'll probably get a buzz (right?), but I am okay with that. Hell, I haven't had a beer or a glass of wine in 7 years and even then, it would only be 1 (2 max in an evening with a heavy meal). I have a husband and children that I want to be 'with' so I really don't want to be messed up. I would however, love a few cuddle sessions before... Anyway, any help would be great. BTW: I was being prescribed 40mg OxyContin BID + 30mg Oxycodone QID. My husband just lost his job (we know it's because of the health insurance costs, but they say it is because business is slow...but they hired THREE guys to replace him...all single, no health issues), so we have no insurance until October when his new job's benefits start. That means cash pay...so the doctor didn't prescribe the OxyContin 40mg, but he did up my Oxycodone 30mg to 5 x a day. It's not touching my pain...AT ALL. The last thing I want is for my babies to remember me screaming everytime they hugged me.:( Okay...let's get passed that...please give me the run-down on alternative uses of this medication. Oh, and instead of the Amide...I got ETHEX this month ($240 for 180 tabs). |

First, your husbands employer is legally obligated to extend you insurance. It's called Cobra. I apologize if you're already aware of this. It's not always cost effective to go this route, but for people that have difficulty obtaining medical insurance or can't, this works! Second, can you document the fact that your husband was unfairly terminated and others were hired in his place? Take the information to an attorney and shake the money tree. Chewing or crushing pills basically bypasses the 'extended release.' Chewing effectively converts the meds into an IR medication. This is mainly done to intensify the 'high.' The effects from the meds usually happen about 20 minutes after ingesting them. Oxycontin is metabolized in the liver, so it takes a little time to hit your system. Do NOT chew your pills. The next thing you know you'll be snorting them... injecting them... and then you'll be asking us how to kick the habit. Suboxone is the answer BTW. It's a horrible cycle. For the sake of your children, consider an alternate to Oxycontin. If not, one day you might look back and wonder where all that time went? |

uh.... I used to crush pills that were too big to swallow (antibiotics, etc)(I gag on my own tooth brush)but I've never seen an oxy "too big to swallow". I'm a chronic pain patient and I've been prescribed different variations of them, and they've all been no bigger than a baby aspirin at best and easy for even me to swallow. Hmmm... wonder if that is why they make them so small, so gaggers don't cut em up.
And for those of you that take them other than prescribed, lets just say I know someone that dicked around with that a long time ago just a few times and got a lifetime of problems to boot from it, not worth it to be the unlucky 1 in 100 that something goes wrong.(Even if you think you know what you are doing). You can't see inside your body to see what it's doing to (insert your wrong-way of taking it here) your veins, liver, kidneys, brain, nose, whatever. I'm personally GLAD they are making them "tamper proof". Gives some self control to those that don't have it. As for crushing it for immediate relief... I also know what those stabbing pains are like, wish you were dead, every minute waiting for it to kick in feels like a year... I've learned how to ride that out whether I lay flat on the floor or stand in a scalding shower. On one last note, if you are prescribed X amount per day, I've found that if you space them out well, you are always acheiving some level of relief, if not you may want to ask your Doctor about "break through" pain meds, see if he has anything in liquid form that is meant to be ingested like that. I know, I know..... just an opinion, everyone has one just like an a-hole. Hope you feel better. |
