Anyone know this drug Morphine Sul. ER

My doctor put me on 2 X 30 mg Morphine Sul./ER/24. I have read that Morphine doesn't compare to oxycontin for pain relief so I didn't know if this drug would work...I have taken oxycontin before 40 mg size.

WOW, it did, maybe to strong. I have taken only one pill and am preparing to take another this morning.

Has anyone experience with this drug, how did it work for you??

the morphine does not compare to the oxycontin. the morphine sulphate er i found when my pain was the worst did do much at all and i had never taken any pain drugs b4 that.

Ive been taking the morphine er for about a month now the oxycotin made me sick after three years of use. im a bit more dizzy, and very consipated on the morphine but not throwing up sick.The morphine dosent work as well on the pain..im taking90mg per day

I'm taking Ethex brand Morphine Sulfate ER, how about yourself? I assume it's like MS Contin or any other brand name. Do you know anything about the Ethex company?

I was very constipated on just 40mg/24 of hydrocodone. I still take 20/mg of hydro along with 60/mg of Morphine. A person in Topix recommended Miralax, and it has helped some. You can buy it across the counter.

The Morphine, so far for me has worked very well for my pain but the second dose of the day (30/mg)makes me tired, almost to the point of feeling drunk.

The biggest difference that I have noticed between Morphine and Oxycontin is that Morphine does not give me the jitters like oxy did. I can see where Morphine would be the perfect drug for someone in pain who also needs to rest and recover, but, I need to be up and working, so I may need to switch to oxy. I do hate those jitters though.

I wonder how long Morphine stays in your system? Keep in touch and let me know how you get along on your dose.

My Mom was taking 40mg.oxycontin every 12 hours.Her insurance was changed by my father,the bonehead,and now she isn't covered for oxy and its 2 expensive.Though she is covered for MS-contin or the MOrphine Sulfate/ER,extended release pills as its being dispensed cause its cheaper.THough the Doctor was cool with her and she is prescribed Morphine/Sul/ER 60mg. every 12 hours plus Hydrocodone 10/650 as needed.She says she was more active and less tired on the Oxycontin,and that the Morphine is good for rest and healing,though if she could she would go back to just the Oxycontin.We did alot more when she was on only the oxycontin.Anyway Peace Johnny

I became disabled 10 years ago . Since then 1 hip replacemt 3 back sugerys including a back fusion . 1 toe replacement .1 tit cut off.And yes im a man . Men get breast cancer too . I tryed oxy for about 6 monthes im not sure of the dose but it will make you go to the store naked !!!! Since i have been takeing at least 15 to 20 hydro 10-550 each day . Then morphine 30 3 times daily plus 10 hydro.Today they started me on 60 mg 3 times a day plus 8 hydro daily . lets see what happens???

Man, I can only hope that it also doesn't make you got to the store naked....hahahaha. I know it wasn't funny and I hope you can laugh about it now, but I'm telling you I will still be laughing about this when I go to sleep. I have an aunt who got really drunk and went to a store in bra and panties. It was a vietnamese-owned store she frequented. She didn't even remember going on that night, but she went in the same store the next week, and the owner jumped up on the counter when she walked in and screamed "AHA!!! You wear pants today!!!!!" Thanks for the laugh.

Morphine er (MS contin) works better then oxycontin. Different people get different results from all medication type situation.

The Morphine did a good job on the pain for me but it made me so weak and sleepy I had to stop taking it.

I'm back on Oxycontin and oxycodone for breakthrough pain now and it's doing a pretty good job for my pain relief. The Morphine however did work better for my pain.

been on morphine for 8 yrs,now taking 500mg daily
for pain..started on 60mg daily at the start,so you can see that the dose as incresed big time.it works for the pain but the problem remains that i am now fully addicted and cant bear the thought of being without it.morphine as enabled me to have some kind of life but at a price..

Brand name (MS Contin) typically go for around .50 per mmg-thus 100mg=$50, depending on availability of other drugs. People who use IV prefer the brand names as they don't turn to gel when they add water, so generics don,t typically demand as high a price. Also depends on how bad the "customer" is needing it lol.

Will have to agree tho with Bo_Dillin....you quickly build up a tolerance... Then have your Doc. thinking and treating you as if your a "drug seeker" Trust me I'm speaking from experiance.

Morphine for $.50 per mg is outrageous. 15mg is worth four or five bucks in my experience in different parts of the country. Morphine has long been the standard for pain relief. It does not provide the same "buzz" as oxy or hydro, however if the dosage is adjusted appropriately, it should provide equivalent pain relief. 5mg hydro or oxy = about 7.5 mg morphine or something like that.

I am calling out to anyone who has experience with BOTH OxyContin and MSContin (MS=morphine Sulfate) and can testify to their efficacy...

I have heard time and again, Oxy is waaaaay better than MS, this is the very FIRST time I have read a positive review of MS Contin! I have an issue and need some feedback.

Alright, I am going to get personal. I was prescribed Oxy 40mg 3 X daily and Oxy IR 15 mg every 4 hours prn. It worked. I was medically retired from active duty due to a service-connected injury, the same injury I am currently taking narcotics for.

Once retired I was I was shuffled to the VA (scary) and I was informed that the VA system no longer carries Oxy and I was offered MS Contin. I remained on the medication for a year and a half. Life seemed normal and the VA never heard a peep out of me.

Forward two months to present day... I am out of the VA system and seeing a pain management doc. After reading that Oxy was better and not truly remembering how well it actually worked, I was switched back to Oxy. However, I am not doing nearly as well as I was a few months ago. I have listed the dosages below...

MS Contin 60 mg 3 X daily OxyIR 15 mg every 4 hours prn

OxyContin 80 mg 2 X daily OxyIR 15 mg every 4 hours prn

How these two compare? Anyone have a similar experience? Please let me know!

Has anyone tried immediate release morphine? How does that compare to Oxy IR? Anyone have insight, experience?

MSara... no experience with the two but a comment: Most of what I've seen on the "way better" posts are abusers and/or rec users. You might try paging down because I think there is a link or two where some of these are compared and competed on.

I didn't see any links about the topic, but the response was very much appreciated! I noticed one comment that addressed pain management and most likely filled in (by me)/or omitted the remainder of the comment.

I swore I would not throw my personal info out there, but I have been struggling with this issue, and the opportunity seemed to materialize before me. I am interested in factual information and intelligent opinions before I make a decision that is best for me. All I know is I passed as a "normal" person and nearly felt like one.

Since I have been placed back on OxyContin, I watch the clock and count pills. I NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE. I am wondering if it is because I don't have a third dose or if it is because morphine sulfate is a superior medication in the treatment of chronic mod-severe pain. It is, after all "the gold standard."

I have had chronic pain for yeras and many gastrointestial problems and several surgeries. I am due to have surgery again within the month. Last time i was released from the hospital i wa put on 40 mg oc 5 pills every 12 hours , so 400 mg a day. Then 20 mg oxy IR prn. My insurance wont cover oxy anymore so today i was put on morphine er 200mg 2 pills every 12 hours so 800mg a day. It seems to be working so for. I am scared of the pain will be in after surgery because I am on such high dose of meds now and withdrawl after surgery and aftet they wean me off meds because i have been on them so long. Plus I do have lupus and that causes a lot of pain tooas well as arthrtitis in my neck, im only 35!!!
