A poster on this site claimed that medical records have shown that anyone taking below 60mg of oxy per day for more than 6 months should experience no considerable w/d symptoms if trying to stop completely. W/d symptoms may be mild but nothing compared to heavy abuse...like maybe 100-200mg per day. I read of one poster even taking 900mg per day which is surprising.
I doubt this source is credible, but my question remains.. If a person is taking 10-15 mgs of oxy per day for more than 6 months time. How sever do you think w/d symptoms will be with no tapering.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on opiates for nine months i started with under 30m a day. then over time moved to over 180m a day. to quit i cut back to maybe 15-30mg a day and then started suboxone for a 3 day period taking a quarter tablet once every 24 hours.i have experienced basically no withdrawal symptoms except a small amount of anxiety.

Everyone is different when it comes to w/d.It's not a good idea to just stop. You should go to a doctor for advice or let him flush it out, plenty liquids.Even take methadone but reduce it over a few days. But better getting prof help!

Dear Matt, as so many people have written, "everyone is different." Each system is different, what is a "lot" for some folks, isn't for another. Some have a very low threshold for medications and stopping cold turkey on ANY narcotic after taking for a steady length of time, can cause severe damage, even death. Use the help of a doctor. They need to monitor your blood preassure and other vital signs. It's commendable to anyone who wants to quit to want "just to stop NOW," but it isn't safe to do it that way. Just please be careful with what you are doing and seek the advise of a professional, even if by calling a support line for information. At least they can possibly give you numbers of those who can help in your particular area. All the very best of health to you... Kitty

How long should i expect the withdrawals to last? at the level you were at, the mental cravings will probably be worse than anything physical. No more than 2-3 days of feeling like the regular flu, without the vomiting. You will have trouble sleeping, and my legs always hurt like hell laying down at night.what are you going to do about the cravings?? Feel free to contact me, i have had way to much experiance with oxy wd's. I always recommend the med clonidine, it works well with a vast majority of oxy addicts for early wd's, it is a blood pressure med that has been used for decades as a narcotic wd med. any dr will prescribe.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules to w/d's symptoms. Everybody goes through it differently. I would say that it depends on how much and for how long you have been doing it. Other variables are weight, diet and excercise while detoxing and if you use any over the counter meds to ease it like Immodium AD or any Benzos for sleep. Everyone will experience something different based on these factors. I hope this was somehwat helpful.

How long should i expect the withdrawals to last? I would say a week tops (if you stop cold turkey). I have been taking OC 40's everyday for 2 years now. The best way (for me) is to cut back, don’t stop cold turkey. If its your last script or you only have a few left cut your MG intake to half of what it normally is. So if you are taking 30-40mg’s a day, start taking 15-20mg’s a day for a day or two, then go down to 5-10mg’s for a day or two, then start taking your xanax or whatever you have and you should be good to go. Hope this help ;P

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I suggest you get professional help. I accidently threw my pills away while using the bottle to get a pharmacy phone number & fill a different perscription. As any pain patient knows there is no perscription given for lost or stolen pills with oxycontin. I went through full blown withdrawals. It felt as if my skin was crawling inside my body, nausea, headache, annexity/panic attacks constantly walking back and forth, no sleep, could not eat. Pure hell on earth. After nine days of this my physisian decided I was not drug seeking and wrote a new perscription. This was the most horrible experience and completely helpless at the will of my doctors fear of someone seeking more medication. They will not issue a script if they are lost or stolen. If you ask for the drug they will dismiss you as a patient, no help, no talking you are done. I had been on this for over 7 years at the time with not one incident of impropieties. I did not want to go back on the drug but he insisted I would need too. I can only imagine what would take place for someone who they are suspitious of. Your doctor should be able to provide a lower dose and slowly taper you off the drug. A clinic would be your next resource. I currently take 120 mg a day. Your dose & period of use is considerably less so I am sure this will be a completely smoother transition for you. You are doing the best thing for yourself and I wish you the best of luck! Goodspeed!

Aw man, this is alot harder then I imagined, y legs hurt and the runs are pretty bad( sorry for the TMI) I didnt think my body had such a dependence on this horrible drug. My lower back is killing me. I find myself taking the benzos to fall asleep but i keep waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to sleep.
My girl thinks I have the flue and offered some leftover vicoden from here wisdom teeth. I wish she wouldnt have even told me she had any. Would i have to start over with withdrawals if I ate one or two to relieve the pain. Im sure with my tolerance I wouldnt even feel the opiate anyway.
Im thinking the best thing to do may be to seek treatment and come clean to my girlfriend. Im sue shed support me but i dont want her to tink of her boyfriend as a "junkie"

I went in patient to detoc off of 110mg daily for almost 4 years. I tried to taper myself down and I became extremely depressed. When my mother took me to doctor three days later because I couldnt drive she told me to stop the tapering I would have to go in-pt to detox. Oxy affects people differently. Yes I had sweats, tremore, pain, leg restlessness, inability to sleep, diarhea for 4 months, could not get out of bed, didnt even see want a shower. It is horrible. I detoxed for 10 days in patient with suboxone. But came out and went cold turkey, symtoms started all over again. Had to do another 5 weeks partial in patient and put on tuns othermeds to combat withdrawals since I had stopped suboxone they didnt want to start me on it again. Pure hell. Please seek help.

take a couple of the vics, it will help alot. You won't go thru any more wd because of a few vics. I was lucky my first attempt, my mother in law was on duregesic fentanal patch, i put one on and in a few minutes i was good to go. cough med with codeine was another option i used, i think that was attempt number 55!! after 7 years of failure, option #308 was finally a winner, buprenorphine for life!!
