School considering offering birth control to middle school girls

This has all the makings of a legal train wreck. Here's what's going to happen. A young girl on school issued birth control will get pregnant. Her parents will sue the school district and win because the product dispensed by the school did not prevent her pregnancy. The case will be made that the birth control medication, which has a statistically significant failure rate, was dispensed and that everyone knew the product was "flawed" hence, the school (taxpayers) must pay up. PUBLIC SCHOOLS DISPENSING BIRTH CONTROL IS A BAD IDEA. The folks who want birth control medications or their parents should be the one selecting and purchasing the medication which puts them in the driver's seat to making an informed decision on what is purchased and eliminating the school district from liability. The parties to the litigation will be limited to the user/user's parents and the BC manufacturer.

unfortunately you are right. There really is not a whole lot you can do to stop children from wanting and having sex. it is in the parents hands, always has been and always will be. I guess this is what you get for living in a sexually closed society.

yes it's in the parents hands to teach their children either to wait or if they are going to have sex then they better use protection. I must say that I'm not totally against a school giving out BC...it would be great if they didn't need to, but there are too many CHILDREN having children. If it's going to be issued there needs to be some sort of class that goes along with it. I hope they aren't going to just say "Here is some BC...now go and have sex".

I was at my lil sisters high school and I saw 3 pregnant girls in about 30 mins... it's sad.

The lessons of Romeo and Juilet continue to be lost on the society.
1.) If an 11 year old boy and girl want to have sex they should be married like all other people.
2.) The children should tell the parents of their strong love for each other. If they don't and have sex anyway, they should be treated as deliquents in the legal system.
3.) The parents should support the married children in the home(s) until they reach adulthood and go on their own.
4.) The decision to use birth control in the marriage should be a family decision.

Romeo and Juliet is a fantasy...We're talking about real life here. I don't know if your serious about your post, but I don't think there are many 11-year-olds that know what true love is. How does letting them get married so that they can 'legally' have sex fix things? If many of these kids had parents who would just supervise them and be more involved in their lives instead of just leaving them to do whatever with whomever...or parents who would just drum in their heads the potential consequences that go along with having sex...maybe there wouldn't be so many pregnancies and the schools wouldn't be ready to hand out birth control like it's candy.

By the way, if you want to know who will be awarded the contract for the sale of the birth control medications to be dispensed by public schools, it will be just like any other government operation, THE LOWEST BIDDER. That inspires confidence doesn't it?

Considering underage sex is illegal, why is the government facilitating sexual activity by issuing birth control medications? Considering birth control meds don't stop STD's, is this such a big favor?
