I too was taken ovcon and when I went to re-new in November I was told it was taken off the market. It was the best birth control I had even been on. I wonder why it was taken off the market. Does anyone know?

I too just went to get a refill and was told Ovcon was no longer available. I do not know anything about this Balziva. I am calling my doctor on tuesday to discuss. I have been taking ovcon 35 for 27 years and now all of a sudden it has been discontinued. why?

Ovcon-35 was replaced because of cost efficiency. It was replaced by Balziva because it is a generic and cheaper to produce. Ovcon-35 used to cost me $50 for a one month supply with out insurance, when I got insurance it cost $30 for a one months supply. Now with Balziva it cost $20 for a 3 month supply. I just hope it works just as good...I was taking Ovcon for about 6 years.

Anyone else switch from Ovcon to Balziva? I took Ovcon continuously (no non-active pills) for a few years for endometriosis and it worked like a charm. I'm taking Balziva and all of the sudden I'm bleeding every day. Really weird, esp. if it's supposed to be the same drug.

I've had break through bleeding too.... and I took Ovcon continuously for years. I hate this new stuff and my doctor & pharmacist had no idea Ovcon was going away. Great communication Ovcon... great.

I've just started Ovcon a couple of months ago, I belive its been replaced by Ovcon 35 chewable. I think there is not supposed to be any difference other than you can chew them and they are mint flavoured. Apparantly most insurers wont cover the chewable version yet. See the manu site warnerchilcott.com

I'm not a fan of Balziva so far. When I started on Ovcon 4 years ago my cramps were horrendous and period lasted 7 days...with Ovcon only minor cramps and a 4 day period. I've only been on Balziva for a month now and my cramps are so bad, I may as well not be taking anything.

Has anyone been on Balziva for more than 3 months? Is this just my body adjusting the new drug? Does it get better?

Wow, Ovcon is off the market, this is not good. I've been switched to Balziva and am in my second month. I too am dealing with some annoying symptoms, but am hoping they will go away when my body gets used to the new pill.

I was on Ovcon for 4 years, and now that I am on Balziva, I have gained 10 pounds in the last 2 months and developed an intolerance to my contacts. It was only today that I finally corresponded everything together. Personally, I am calling my OB_GYN to get put on something else ASAP.

Jess,
I have also gained weight. I have been dieting for months and lost 30 pounds, and once switching to Balziva for two months I have gained 8 back, and no matter how hard I try the scale is just stuck. I think I may just go off the pill altogether and give my body time to adjust and lose the weight. I've also had breakthrough bleeding and have been really emotional.

I just started taking Balziva-35 about a month ago. I workout twice a day (as I always have) and I feel like I'm gaining weight. I'm already up about 5 lbs from when I first went on the pill. Has everyone experienced weight gain?

hey gals - i too was on ovcon, and when i went to the pharmacy they switched me to balziva. i called my doctor's office and apparently they have a drug called 'femcon' which is the branded ovcon - the SAME thing, except that it has the option to chew it. it is spearmint flavored. the office gave me a few samples and was able to get this filled at the pharmacy - it is called 'femcon' and it is ovcon, the same company that made ovcon makes this one. i like it because i don't need a glass of water and there is no aggressive taste, or i can swallow it if i want. ask your doctor!! i haven't had any bleeding or adverse side effects and have been on it for over a month and a half. my office told me there is going to be a lot of marketing of this new ovcon.... cool!

I was considering the switch since Beliza is supposed to be the replacement for Ovcon, but now I'm not so sure. I loved Ovcon, I'm confused as to why it's gone. The Femcon mentioned above is Ovcon with iron in it (hence the Fe) but it can have side effects such as gas, as with any iron pill. So I didn't like it too much. Now i"m on Lo-Ovral, and I don't know what to do. It's my first month on that, but it's also a low-dose BC pill...and those aren't too highly regarded right now. I have no idea what to do!

I just got switched from Ovicon which I've been taking for 3 years to Balziva. I found out only b/c my 3 months supply was $60 cheaper when ordering my 90 day supply. Thus far Im not impressed. I've been on it about 3 weeks and have lower abdominal pain which is very uncomfy. I cant wait til I see my dr in 2 weeks to see about the chewale Ovicon. i'll deal with the price difference to go back to being comfy. Good luck my fellow Oviconians!!!
