I just started two days ago and was under the impression that the side effects were the same as in the pills. Is this true? What have been your experiences?

Thank you for posting your information about stopping ortho evra. I've been wondering what the side effects were for some time now. I've been planing to stop this month because we were going to start trying for a baby!

I got off of the patch around this time last year because it made me gain weight. At the time I stopped, it was only about 15 pounds, but just like when I tried the shot, I continued to gain weight--even after I stopped. I've gained a total of 40 lbs this time. With the shot I gained about 30! I won't ever try this stuff again! Has anyone else gained this much weight? I know it did for me because b/f I started, I weighed 125 (with the shot), gained weight and after about a year it naturally just fell off, and I went back to my regular size. Now I just have to wait until the hormones from the patch leave my system...

I stopped ortho evra a month ago. I haven't gotten my period yet, only one little clot today. Im about 4 days late. Im not sure if it is supposed to take a while to return to normal. I was a bit more depressed while on the pill and I do feel better in that respect. Just a little worried why I haven't gone back to normal periods. Anyone have a similar experience?

The same thing is happening to me. I had my last patch off week feb 19 and my period on feb 20. Period was supposed to come on Mon march 20 but still not here. Have taken home pregnancy test but all are negative. I am still having all of the preggo symtoms though. So confusing

My daughter is on ortho patch almost one year (not for contraceptive purpose, but to decrease the pain while having her periods). After hearing all this negative side effects I advised her to stop using it. It is one month since she took off and she still didn't get her periods. Any sugggestions? Could she use something different to regulate her periods and prevent the terrible pain (she was doing fine once she started using patches, her periods were regular, and she didn't have any pain). Thanks!

I did a surgery on feb 2nd, and was told to put on the patch rite on feb 2nd, however i missed that date and I started to put on the patch on feb 9th, which was 1 week after. However, I still havent got any periods yet till now, april 10th. I am kinda worried now that I cannot get pregnant again, can anyone tell me if that's normal or at least ok? THis was my first time to use these kind of patches

I had to stop mid cycle because I developed 3 blood clots. I was on the patch for 14 months. The biggest side affect (other than the blod clots) was a serious lack of sex drive. Because the patch exposes you to 60% more estrogen I was basically backed up with hormones. I tried everything to get my hormones back in balance. The only thing that worked was accupunture and a wonderful herbal drug called Free and Easy Wanderer. This is a natural chinese herb that helps women metoblize their estrogen.

What made you quit using the patch and is anyone planning on replacing the patch with a different kind of birth control? Has anyone been told by their doctor to stay off birth control for a while on account of the high percentage of estrogen to which the patch exposes you?

I'm on the patch almost 2 years now, have no side effects, no painful menstuation..and when I take it off get the periods immediatelly..even when i took it off in the middle of the cycle for a reason got my period right away..it works for me..so hopefully won't get any complications because when I'm reading all this stuff it's scary..

I just went off the patch because my doctor is starting to believe it is what has caused a YEAR of yeast infection-like itching and soreness (but without discharge and I have normal levels of yeast). She thinks I may be having a reaction to the hormones and wants to see what will happen if I go off BC entirely for two months.(possibly what you are referring to Belle?)

**[this part may help some of you]**

She said it is normal to not get a natural period for up to 6 weeks. If I haven't gotten one by then, then I am to go in and she will induce one to sort of jumpstart my body again.

I am 26 and have been on one form of BC or another since I was 18. Quite honestly, I don't remember what it is like to get a period naturally! No idea how my body will respond...

While I'm here though, anyone else have vaginal soreness/dryness/itching problems?

ASW' i had some simmilar problems but I am a cycle instructor so I assumed that it was from the seat....

Apart from that; I want to get pregnant, do you know how long should I wait before trying? Shoul I (WE) use other contraceptives?

Magna,

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder which it was. Unfortunately, I don't have any possibilities like that that could be the cause.

My understanding is as soon as you go off of it...literally a 2 days or less later, you can get pregnant, theoretically. I think it is out of your system pretty quickly. But if it were me, I would definitely call my gyno. Just to make sure there was no harmful effects.

Good Luck!

magda,
the ortho evra website says to wait on getting pregnant until you get your regular period back so the doctors could accurately tell how many weeks your pregnant and when you are due.

Being on the patch, the pill, or anyother hormone birth control is like telling your body your pregnant. so whenever you take a hormone your body thinks your pregnant, so like after a pregnancy, when you stop, your body has to readujst, esp. with the patch bc it does give off soo much of the hormone. And you cannot get pregnant the day or two days after taking it off bc the hormone has been on your skin and slowly being introduced to your system, so it will take a few days to stop. theoretically you only get pregnant when you are ovulating, and when on a hormone bc you dooooooo not ovulate, and if you do it is because you are taking it correctly or are taking something else your not tellingyour doctor about and is competing with the bc and the other drug will usually win-most known being antibiotics! and you ovulate before you get your period so if you do stop taking the patchand dont get your period use a back up barrier birth control method like a condom.

I got off the patch in Jan. And i've been feeling nausea and lightheadedness. Not to mention fatigue and headaches. Its April now and i keep reading it take 6 months to a year for you body to adjust. Does anyone know if this is the case? Or is anyone feeling like this after taking the patch off?
