No one has heard anything? I can't find anything at all on the trial. How can it be so hush hush?

Katy and Imaj, Beware other birth control options and weigh them with a grain of salt. Katy, glad you like the Depro...I had tried it and it made me bleed non-stop for months on end...a side effect that my docs said was common. While their web site mentions that many women loose their periods entirely (and indeed I know one friend who has), it also has side effects...and of course in my case a messy one. Oh, it's a nice form of birth control all right! I wouldn't want to have sex while bleeding either. But I'm glad it is working out for you at least.
Also, the IUDs...we (former users of the patch) can ONLY use the copper IUD since all the rest (to my knowledge and research with doctors) all contain hormone levels. The other problems with IUDs is, they say, rare...including uterine puncture and nasty painful cramps. If you already have bad cramps, don't touch the IUD I am told. I am also familiar with woman who got tubal pregnancies because of it. I have not heard back from my lawyers yet on any settlements. But I am happy to report that I went through a pregnancy (due to not being able to use contraceptives I got pregnant even though we tried not to) without getting a blood clot. I had to take Lovenox which are extremely expensive ($30+ a shot) daily and sometimes twice daily into the stomach. But my baby turned out ok and right now I am transitioning back onto Coumadin. I had to stay in the hospital 8 days after the birth simply because my blood levels were not right enough and the hospital would not release me without them not giving me a risk of clotting. So it is possible to have a baby after having blood clots in your lungs or legs. I've been there and can attest to it...but you will need to go through the shots the entire pregnancy and they are not fun. My husband is now looking for a doctor to do his vesectomy since there's no other options for me birth control-wise. I am also not sure about the Essure procedure working on me and it sounds kinda scary in itself and it's new...and I just don't trust anything anymore. |

Hi Matrix,
Thanks for your comment. the iud is the only thing the doc said i can use. i had it while i was taking coumadin because i was scared as heck of getting pregnant because of the bleeding. But I have had 1 baby and one on the way since i have stopped coumadin and now i have to take 2 shots in the stomach because of the PE and they are very painful. This is my 3rd year in a row. My PE came after my first son. When we tried for our second child i actually miscarried which was in 2006, ended up preg again and had my son in 2007 and now, like you because of not being able to take birth control, i am preg with an unexpected (VERY UNEXPECTED) baby. So I have literally been taking the shots for 3 years. The IUD was very uncomfortable for the both of us and he is now considering a vassectomy because i am not too in favor of the tube thing. But the lovenox is very expensive and i am just about out of funds from taking it...even with insurance. I just don't trust anything anymore either! |

Have everyone signed the Public Citizen petition to withdraw/ban the Patch? I did - and I sent it to EVERYONE in my email contact list. It's the least I can do given how powerless I feel right now, waiting for the outcome of the lawsuits. Plus, I hope to prevent any future injuries.

Has anyone heard anything yet? Pacer is not updated and I believe there was a meeting yesterday.

What's Pacer? Haven't heard anything yet either. Just praying that this is over soon.

It's the legal website. If your case was filed or transfered to Judge Katz MDL 1742 all of the hearings transcripts will be there. Just google Pacer

My attorney says we have a date set with J&J to discuss settlement. I'm excited but at the same time a little scared! I know what I think my life and everything I went through is worth but what if J&J doesn't even come close. It's hard because I don't even know what reality would be in terms of an amount-$10,000-$50,000-$100,00 0-$500,000? Why can't anyone seem to just give us a ballpark figure? This is so frustrating! I just want to get on with my life-I have been waiting for over 2 years and now it's so close.

Katy...what was the date given? Did you file your case in OH or NJ?
|
|
I don't know if my case was filed in OH or NJ-I never asked nor was I ever told. As for the date (I know anyone can trace my ip address right to my front door)I don't want to say too much-but it's soon. What exactly could J&J do if they did find out who we were? It's not like we have signed anything yet-right? How much do you guys think they are offering?

hi everyone....i have been on the patch now for a little over 2yr...i saw a little something online yesterday as a online advertisement about "settlement" for the ortho evra patch so that freaked me and my bf out! so i did a search on google and i landed on this site. after reading all of your posts, my question is should i get off the patch then? cause now i'm scared and i'm really considering it.....please advise....anyone. thanks.

oh also i havent experienced any health probs....if i get off the patch now will i have any effects in the future??

i feel like if they don't want people to disclose the amount, it must be reasonable. just note that the teen that died, her family onlr received about $1mil...so i would atleast look at 25% of that at the most. i know that many women are going to trial though but i have no details of their cases. i know that i have been waiting for 3 years and i hear that we are waiting for a response now. i don't know how long that's going to take though.
alisa--i always advise anyone to try any other method of bc other than ortho evra. |

I spoke with my attorney about a week ago, and I said that I knew he couldn't reveal numbers, but I asked him if people were satisfied/happy with their settlement amounts. He said yes, with a few exceptions. That was a fair answer. You may want to ask your attorney that same question. He said it was hard to discuss even general amounts because every case is so unique - for example, individuals with the same injury (PE, stroke, etc.) has received a wide range of dollar amounts because every case is unique. He said that when the time came, when J&J is willing to discuss a settlement amount for my case, he would talk to me about their expectations (the law firm) of a reasonable amount for my case. That seemed reasonable to me - he sounds really busy working on the cases being addressed right now. I did have a Life Care Planner collect massive amounts of information re: lost income, health care costs (current and for use in predicting the future), future loss of income, etc.

It sounds like the law firm I am working with has settled several cases. It was helpful just knowing that cases are being settled. My stroke was in June 2006, but I started using Ortho Evra October/November 2005. The cases being settled by my law firm occured prior to that date.
