What an interesting article. When asked about the harm of using nicotine replacements longterm, the writer avoids the question with time-worn lectures about the dangers of cigarette smoking. Then, without clear evidence, Dr. Dale states that the ex-smokers should stop using nicotine replacements longterm. Based on what, Dr Dale??? Like many other smokers, I've realized that nicotine replacements are not only cleaner and healthier, but cheaper than smoking. But it also occured to me that, at some future point, nonsmokers will insist that ex-smokers must stop using nicotine because it's harmful--not remembering it was the by-products of CIGARETTES that they were complaining about. Dr. Dale and others need to back off chastising ex-smokers who are using nicotine replacements longterm. They should go find some other habit (like exercising to the point of injury) to "cure". Thank you.

Smoking in the US has dropped from 54% to less than 24%. Cancer has risen by more than smoking has dropped.
The 1993 EPA Report was vacated by Anti- Tobacco Federal Judge Osteen and was backed up by independent Scientists working with him and two Congressional Committees. The ACS had to remove an Ad in the NY Times because they could not prove their 53,000 deaths due to SHS/ETS. Over 250 studies find no connection of SHS to Cancer or Heart Disease. Even the ACS and WHO, in their largest studies, found the same conclusion.
Less smoking = more Cancer? Looks like we are better off smoking.
This push for Smoking Bans and higher Taxes is The Marketing Plan by Big-Pharma to sell Smoking Cessation NRT'S.
Tobacco is used to make Cancer and Heart Disease fighting drugs.
So who is lying about Tobacco?
Think Diesel, virus or infection and you will find the real culprit along with Big-Pharma.

The WHO has been working on how to fool the people about SHS/ETS since 1975 when they were told the only way to get people to stop smoking was to make the public believe that SHS/ETS was killing their children and all the people around them. So, if Cigarettes were to be introduced now it would take many years to get the people brainwashed to swallow this fraud that SHS/ETS WAS KILLING PEOPLE.
Anyone over 30 has been raised around SHS. If it were as dangerous as they would have us believe, everyone over 30 would be DEAD.
The longest/largest studies by the ACS, the WHO and over 250 other studies found no connection to Cancer or Heart Disease. It's about time people were catching on to the fraud.
The 1993 EPA report has been vacated as a fraud by Federal Judge Osteen and by two Congressional Committees. Why hasn't the media exposed this? Could it be that they are paid too well to keep it hidden? IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT PROFIT NOT HEALTH. WAKE UP.

Evidence for the dangers of not smoking comes from the 150th anniversary number of Atlantic magazine. P.J. O’Rourke points to (actual, serious) U.S. historical statistics showing that, in the period 1973-94, annual per capita consumption of cigarettes fell from 4,148 to 2,493. In the same period, the incidence of lung and bronchial cancer rose from 42.5 to 57.1 cases per 100,000 population.

We are told that Second Hand Smoke is more dangerous than carbon
Monoxide, Diesel fumes, Wood smoke, Formaldehyde in our home building materials, furniture, carpets, insulation, and new car interiors among others.

We are led to believe Pollution of our water and air from industrial manufacturing and farmland insecticides are less harmful. We aren’t told that Arsenic in our water is more dangerous.

We are not told, the chemicals in our home cleaning products; air fresheners, such as pine scents and incense are more dangerous.

Would any one of us rather spend 10 minutes in a garage with a running car or motorcycle than with a dozen smokers?

Has the ACS told us that their tests of in-door SHS/ETS is at least 25,000 times lower than accepted safety standards?

Do Health Departments tell us that they can find no one who has been proven to have died from SHS/ETS ?

Just how far do they believe we have been dumbed down. I hope not nearly as far as they believe.

One thing I have noticed in all forums. People who have no idea what the real reasons behind smoking bans are and haven't taken the time to find the truth, always revert to name calling to hide their ignorance.
They have no idea of what is in store for all of us and it doesn't matter if we smoke or not.
Not paying attention is our biggest enemy. Our Legislators know this and they use it to their advantage not ours. Congress is our worst enemy. If not for them we would not be in the mess we are in. When they have milked the smokers they will be looking for a new Tit to milk and it will be yours.

I need help to get off the gum. I have been chewing it since 1994 and now they're saying it is dangerous and can cause cancer (mouth, throat).

I chew at lease 15 - 20 pieces at day.

I now am very worried because the last 4 weeks I've had a really bad taste in the back of my throat. I did go to the doctors about 3 weeks ago and he told me to gargle with salt water, which I did, with no result. I went back five days ago and he gave me an antibiotic. I thought it was helping until today, because I got that bad taste again. I'm scared.

Hooked on Nicorette Gum.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
