“Pros”
- very active bactericidal antibiotic against anaerobic and some microaerophilic bacteria
- metronidazole does not kill Lactobacillus species (good bacteria), unlike many other antibiotics

“Cons”
- carries a risk of convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy
- potency for antabuse-like interaction with alcohol or vinegar
