Methadone withdrawal- mental and physical problems

I have been on Methadone for six years and have been detoxing for over a year, from 95 mg to 30 mg. I have seen a doctor who wrote me a prescription for suboxone; I am planning on taking my last dose of Meth on Sat, then taking nothing on Sunday and Monday, and starting Suboxone on Tuesday. I know you must be in withdrawals to take it,or else it will send you into bad withdrawals, and I wondered if 2 days would be enough. If anyone has had experience with this please let me know. I have a 2 year old daughter and feel bad enough about 2 days of not being there for her. Thanks.

Hello,
i have been on methadone for 13years I was on 100mg but now I take 50mg I am so scared I have
heard such horrible stories from people trying
to get off this stuff my sister stoped at 50mg
all at once and her son called me and told me
to get to her house she was trying to kill her self when i got there she had already started
cutting her rist i would never do any thing like that but i want off of this stuff and don't know
where to begin i have very bad cronic neck and back pain where i have been in 3 car accidents
1flipped a ford probe 3 times but because i was asleep i was not hurt just back and neck pain
i was coming home from work i had worked 16 hours
and i thought i could make it home i was less than a half a mile from home i just need some help i want off this stuff now my marriage is falling apart also because of this stuff.

Hi Captain!!
Now, don't go reading about the bad ones...lol
I can promise you that if you go S*L*O*W*L*Y, then you will not go through withdrawals as bad as many do that hurry their taper.
I understand that everyone wants off quickly once they decide to taper, but what's the hurry if it brings you to days and weeks of horrible withdrawal?
Slow down, everyone. I promise you that it makes a HUGE difference.

My best friend and roommate came off methadone about one 1/2- 2 mos ago. Is it possible that he is still not back to himself yet? He is lacking energy often and has zero motivation. He almost seems depressed. He is not experiencing the vomitting, restlessness, etc. anymore.. but are these psychological effects and low energy a result of the methadone withdrawal? Please help me out.

Does anybody have any suggestions for someone who has been on it for 17 years-been off it completely as of Tuesday. Been on 20mg for about 4 years. I am really scared. Please anyone.

Jena, Not sure just what it is that you are saying. How can your marriage "Fall apart" because of a medication? You mention that you have chronic pain, what will you do or how will you treat it, when you stop taking Methadone? Most likely the reason your Sister tried to hurt herself is that she stopped the medication abruptly, it has to be done slowly!! You mentioned that you've been taking it for 13 years? Please know that you just can't stop suddenly, it MUST be done very slow, with a decrease of no more than 10% of your original dose. and even when you get down to 1mg you may want to go every other day, every third day, ect.
Also you want to have an exercize plan in place. Exercize helps your brain to produce the chemicals that it needs. Do you access to a good counselor, Family or marriage counseling, preferably separate from your clinic setting. Reetz, who posts here has a brochure that she puts out on doing a taper plan and things that you can do to have a better chance at success. Wishing you well. b

If u stopped at 20mg......u will be in for some heavy withdrawal. Get back to clinic and taper slow....1 mg per week. I came from 180 and am at 7......slowly and I feel it big time. If u are cold turkeying from 20...u may need some help...!

There is no clinic near me--I am not in Troy, NY. I am in the boon-docks of NH! It is not going well at all. I have been off since Tuesday. Only had 5mg on Monday--was on 20mg before that! No way to get anymore-don't know what to do! Any other help will be appreciated!

Thanks to you both. I am hoping you are both ok.
My sister had a gall bladder surgery this past Wed. They said it would be laproscopic, and it went wrong somehow. So instead they had to open her up with about an 8 inch cut. She was the 5% that went wrong, they said.
I talked to her tonight, and she said she was fine, and she sounded stoned to the bone...morphine.
She'll be laid up 6 weeks instead of 2 now. But her Higher Power was there.
Enough rattling on. Just wanted to explain why I was a bit distant this week,ok??
But, everything is going to be fine.

Rita, glad to here Sis is doing ok. What about your brother? Email me and let me know ok ....hehehehehe its MAPS here...but I am sure you figured that out already. Decided I needed a change. So I changed..LOL. Gotta run and get kiddles to school....finally he is well and not coughing nor vomiting. And me well I am still recovering from what he gave me...omg I dont remember much of last week as I was horribly sick with strep, vomiting, medication changes and withdrawls because I could NOT HOLD ANYTHING DOWN FOR 2 DAYS. IT WAS HORRIBLE. It was not intended thats for sure as I have plenty of medication...but when one is vomiting when taking a sip of water well....you know its bad. Call me later this week when you get a chance.

I kicked herion 14 years ago and had been clean ever since. 3months ago I recieved a liver and kidney transplant and they gave me methadone for pain. By the second month I was down to 10mgs a day. I started having severe pain and stiffness in my joints and muscle. I cut back to 5mgs and then last week I stopped it. I still have the stiffness in my joints and extreme fatigue. If i have somthing important to do i take a percocet Anyone have an idea how long I have to go
