does anyone know how long it takes for methadone to completely be out of my system? its been 2 months now the medications they have me on dont work for me-Ive tried morphine and percocet and now on oxycontin but nothing seems to help my severe migraines-methadone worked fantastic for me however for health reasons my doctor took me off it-I was wondering if I still have it in my system causing the other medications not to work.any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi everyone, just a quick question. Since I have been on methadone I have lost a LOT of hair! Has this happened to anyone else? I read on another forum that hair loss is a side effect of methadone and that it will revert back when you are off it. I am really interested to know if this has happened to anyone else, hope it's just not me because this is awful, I have thin hair in the first place and have lost a lot of self confidence since losing so much hair.
wow I was wondering why I was getting so thin up top. I've been off methodone almost 4 months! When's it gonna start coming back? the other thing you gotta worry about is when you stop methadone you get real blurry vision.

what I don't think you realize is you never really stopped. you have uneven stopped yet. when you stop taking methadone your body goes in withdrawal but methadone is a synthetic opiate,, but your still taking opiates. Depending on how many milligrams methadone you were on to how many milligrams of percoset,or oxycotton or whatever,it would only amplify the affect.although the methadones probably not in your system anymore I would think that you might be suffering a little withdrawal but then again oxy cotton is a very very strong cancer medication. I was giving demorol for my migraines. When I walked off 70 milligrams of methadone cold turkey I was getting the most severe headaches for about 30 days but I went cold turkey.

Terry methadone is stored in your muscle so it's kinda up to how long you took it. If you used for years it could me months, if u used for months the methadone should have left your system. Maybe try an Walgreens drug test and see if u fail of ask your doc to do blood work to see if it's still there. At home drug test can be up to 70$. Depending what u buy. I would recommend the blood work though. Have u ever tried migraine meds? I've tried several and none have worked as well as methadone but now I wish I never knew methadone existed.

For anyone who's coming off methadone either willingly or unwantedly, I would just want to say that total determinationand is going to be very important in the beginning of what you're trying to do. Never in my life have I been so determined to turn things around to where I was in control. so never in my life was I able to get my shit together. For people just being cut off, I cant imagine what it will be like since you weren't intending on quitting in the first place. You see I mentally and physically prepared myself a month prior to walking of my clinic cold turkey@70mgs. My only suggestion would be to read back on these many posts and follow everything to the letter. remember if you stray your only bullshitting yourself. I'm definitely praying for those in need! take care and God bless. Peace love and much positive vibrations. Jenny girl.....

Hi Gayle, I had do a little looking with that question. One study found that out of 1336 methadone users studied, 8 showed significant hair loss. It didn't say whether if other testing was done to see if the loss was due to other factors. I don't know if the results of that study would be enough to conclude possitively that M, causes hair loss. But, enough to conclude you're not alone.

Another site had the opinion that detoxing M, is stressful enough to the body to cause hair loss. It wouldn't be easy too argue against that.

If you key in "methadone hair loss" you'll find lots of stuff. Even some wanting too sell you NEW HAIR;-) If you want to drive yourself mad, key in "hair loss causes." You'll be wondering, in short order, if you might not have a half dozen other diseases. Best not to do that until you've stopped the M. Your mind plays too many tricks while you're detoxing, and it really wouldn't be healthy mentally too go looking for the trouble that self diagnosis can bring.

It's possible it is from methadone, and that it will turn around after. If it's extremely troubling, see a doc.

Best to you, AB

I wish I was as strong as half of you on here. I've been in withdrawal for 2 weeks and 6 days but only methadone free for 6. Its really hard to be lazy and be a mom though, that's where I start to lose hope cause it's so hard for me to even fix them food. I do but it's hard. I want to give in so I can be the mom they need but if I give in I'm only going to hurt them going through this when they are older and know what's going on. So I'm going to keep going strong. But all I think about is feeling better. My older son keeps asking why I've been sick for so long and I can't tell anyone in my family just how outta control I got with methadone. I weigh 100 lbs and took 180mg daily. I can only say it on here cause no one knows me personally and maybe another methadone user won't judge me as harsh as family that just don't understand why. I can't answer why and if I could I wouldn't be in this situation today. I do wanna say my kids are the most important thing in my life and I'm going to keep going and stay strong for them!

Sorry hearing you're not feeling so hot today, Kelly. Tom, in a post above this one, has nailed it. Your symptoms look like an allergy but they're actually Wd. They'll ease up with time but an antihistamine won't help any. Other than an opioid, there aren't any pills that take the symptoms away, and you know where an opioid will get you. The symptoms go away on their own, though, eventually.

You'll have some good days, then a few not so good. So it goes with this. Slowly, you have more good days and fewer not so good. You might have enough good days, all in a row, to think it's completely over.... then a bad day. Try to not be too discouraged by this, it's just the long process we don't have any real control over. IT DOES PASS!! It just takes time, lots of time.

Be proud of yourself, and revel in that. Let that carry you the rest of the way through.

Be well, AB

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Virgo

Keep a pinch of salt handy today because not everything you hear will be the gospel truth. Someone might have manipulated the facts to make them sound more acceptable, or they may have got carried away and forgotten to tell you something rather vital. Try to keep misunderstandings to a minimum by being as straightforward and honest as possible, and by not simply assuming that people know what you're talking about and therefore not bothering to explain properly.
