Here is my Husbands testimony, this really works and for us because we didn't have "TIME" to go off of it slowly, this was a life saver! Todo's Story I was put on Opiate pain pills by my Dr. to help with Sciatic pain. Never once told how addictive they were, I went into it ignorant of what was about to happen. 2 years later, pain gone, I tried to go off the pills and discovered I couldn't! My body had become addicted to Opiates. Oxycotin, Hydrocodone and others. After moving and changing Dr.'s, my new Dr. didn't want to mess with taking me off the drugs. So he sent me to a Methadone clinic, there they assured me that they could put me on Methadone and wean me down to get me off opiates. The side effects were aweful! I gained a lot of weight, I was tired all the time and irritable, I felt like I was living in a fog. Taking Methadone to get off of Prescription pain pills should not even be legal. It doesn't work. Instead, it slowly kills you! Now, 2 years later we find out that it is virtually impossible to get off Methadone. But God has been our Guide and lead us to Dr. Sponaugle at Florida Detox. While I was there, I saw brain scans of a person on Methadone for 7 years, it was terrifying! A big part of the brain cells had been eaten away. Thankfully, another scan done a year after being off of Methadone showed that the brain cells regrew back to nearly normal. I am one week out of Florida Detox and I feel great! THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET OFF OF OPIATES! I would send anybody that I love dearly to this Dr. God is using Dr. Sponaugle in a powerful way to help addicts from all over the world become opiate free! I was not born an addict and I am not an addict now! Thank God for that! I am free and can function as a human! I praise God for taking us to Florida, I would recommend this treatment to anybody! IT WORKS and it's worth every penney because you don't relapse like many people do who go through 28 day programs. Read the website, read the testimonials! You can even call them and talk to someone about the treatment and they will share their experience with you! A lot of them have gone through the treament themselves and have ended up working there!--Todo

I wish it were that easy. Please know that we do not have the choice of saying once we are "drug free" that we are no longer "addicts". Addicts are always addicts, whether they are using or not. Thanks, Ladies, My mistake, I missed the "Fast" in the titles. Mary, I have noticed that too, sometimes it takes a while for them to show up in the thread, and other times it is there right away.?

My husband went on the methadone program to get off medication that the doctor put him on to help him with his back pain. He went on the methadone in September 2005, he was on 110mg a day untill August 1st 2006. We were moving and he told his program manager. They were to find him a place to go to,to finish his program of methadone, they never did and when we moved he was not only always tired and in a fog but he had to detox with nothing and 21 days later he died of a massive heartattack. They say he just fell asleep and it was over. He was only 42 years old and I believe it was from being left to hang dry with no help. Methadone is a terrible drug and the goverment leads you to belive its the only way to get off medication. . We never new there was anything wrong with my husband he was very healthy. Now I am alone and the only thing I can do is to let other people know STAY AWAY FROM METHADONE it is not the way to go to get help getting of any medication. I have tryed to get his medical records and I was denied because of the new privacy act. I pray this will help to save a life of pain with methadone.

This is something I guess I don't understand they say that the methadone clinics save lives but they have no statistics to prove it by me. They never keep stats because they are gaining something from the MMT's. For every life they save I believe there is one lost. Unfortunately even if they kept stats they wouldn't even count deaths like yours. Or lives lost to methadone obtained from a clinic illegally. I know my son would have never gotten off this drug either I think he got to heaven had the choice of coming back and said no way do I want to go through coming off methadone and chose to stay in heaven. His girlfriend made her way up the ladder to Heroin after he died, where else is there to go after addiction to methadone. They both had addictions to pain killers. The government spends a lot of money to keep my diabetic husband alive because he grieves so much for my son. If only they would spend that kind of time on the programs at the clinics and finding alternatives to methadone my son might still be alive. At 49 my husband had a heart attack and we almost lost him I'm sure you probably still have young kids what do you tell them? It was so hard on my son that died it added to his problems. I know longer have him to help me with his father. I just hope I can keep my husband alive for a little longer too. Keep telling your story it truly is something people need to know.

If you look up the definition of addict you will find that it is someone who is addicted to a substance. I too have a close family member who went to Florida Detox and it was the best thing we ever did. Florida Detox is the only one that does this procedure safely and effectively. After this treatment, because the brain chemistry is balanced with non addictive medications the patients don't relaps like they do in a 28 day program. If you've never been through a seminar, be very careful not to judge this treatment! And after being taken off of a drug and no longer being dependant on it, no, a person is no longer an addict. An addict is someone who is dependant on a drug. My family member who did this treatment is no longer dependant and has no temptation to ever go back on it. Therefore he is not an addict. If you are an addict for life, it is your choice to say that you are. It's really sad that the 28 day programs and 12 step programs are decieving people by telling them they will always be an alcoholic or an addict. That is the most unpossitive thing they could every tell someone in that situation. It's speaking out of ignorance to say we don't have a coice in this. Berylla, I admire your courage! There are not many of us who know this truth!

I really don't know the right words to say right now, except that I really do care that you have had to go through so much pain that did OT have to happen! God Bless you,Gail, Reetz

Somebody please tell me why it is necessary to give someone 150 plus mgs of methodone for ANY reason. Even with the severe pain that I deal with on a daily basis the MOST I have ever taken in one day is 80mgs and that was broken down into 20mgs 4 times a day. And at 20mgs my pain is bareable and I can motivate myself to get around and do every day things. Now I couldnt run a damn marathon or anything like that but I CAN function. And it is very rare that I feel the need to take 80mgs in a day. Most of the time I deal with my pain with taking 60mgs or less aday. I just do NOT understand where there would ever be the need to give someone THAT MUCH methodone in one day. I can guarentee that my pain with my body being riddled with arthritis and my back problems is extremely painful but I know that I will never be completely pain free and if I tried to be then I would be pumping entirely to damn much methodone into my body. This is MY body and I have enough intelligence not to abuse it enough to where I could not function and stay in a fog or nod out on a regular basis. I would rather live in alittle pain then to live in a fog or nod (whatever yall call it). Im sorry but I just DO NOT SEE where that much methodone or any other pain medication is ever needed. And I have been on pain medications for about 5 yrs and on methodone for about 3 of those years.

NOPE, I understand totally that it is being used for two different things. But since I have never been a drug addict nor ever been in rehab, I guess I just do not understand where there would ever be a need to give someone that much methodone at a time. I am trying to understand and that is WHY I asked the questions. What is the difference between the two and why is it necessary for a person trying to get OFF drugs to take that much methodone at a time? I have asked this same question more then once and I have yet had someone explain it to me and/or give me a reason. I have also stated on more then one occassion that I am NOT an expert on the drug and that I am here to LEARN and to better understand the drug. And it seems that the only thing that is happening here is that everyone just keeps passing the buck and the blame back and forth instead of coming up with any facts from either side to make an informed decission on the issue. I guess that is why I am getting so discouraged here because instead of being able to get any answers...the only thing I keep reading is the BS being passed back and forth between sides. How is ANYONE that comes to this forum suppose to be able to make an informed decission and/or better understand the drug. Possibly make a decission on weather or not they even want to contemplate taking the drug if they cant get any solid information from this forum? What if you have a drug user come to this site to LEARN and make the decission to or not to take methodone to kick a drug habit? What if you have someone that is in extreme pain come to this forum to try and make an informed decission on if they should try methodone for pain? The only thing these people are going to hear is the argueing, the fighting, the name calling, the total BS from both sides of the forum. They ARE NOT going to get any HELP, any SOLID INFORMATION from this forum so that they can better understand the drug and make that possible life altering decission. THAT IS MY COMPLAINT. And maybe your right. Maybe this isnt the best place for me. Maybe I should find another forum. Because at least there maybe I can find out the information that I have been asking and have yet to find out here. And once again......this is not directed at anyone imparticular....it is directed at the whole forum and the way that this forum has been handled. reetz1960 wrote: <quoted text> Jo, You seem to be thinking that everyone is using Methadone for pain. DRUG ADDICTION: is a condition where a person takes a drug compulsively, despite potential harm to themselves, or their desire to stop. Although being addicted implies dependence, it is possible to be dependent on a drug without being addicted. People who take drugs to treat diseases and disorders, which interfere with their ability to function, may experience improvement of their condition.
Such persons are dependent on the drug, but are not addicted. One is addicted, rather than merely dependent, if one exhibits compulsive behavior towards the drug and has difficulty quitting it.
To qualify as being dependent a person must 1. take a drug regularly and 2. experience unpleasant symptoms if they stop, which make stopping difficult.
Substance abuse can occur with or without dependency, and with or without addiction. Substance abuse is any use of a substance, which causes more harm than good.
In some cases, whether a substance causes more harm than good, or more good than harm, may be a matter of opinion rather than a matter of fact.
***Only way I knew to actually find out the difference was to go and google it. I could not tell who was right or wrong in the forum OR even if there was a right or wrong. Maybe this will help others determine the difference between an addict and someone who is dependant.

Drug addiction has two components: physical dependency, and psychological dependency. Physical dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the body has become accustomed to its effects. The person must then continue to use the drug in order to feel normal, or its absence will trigger the symptoms of withdrawal. Psychological dependency occurs when a drug has been used habitually and the mind has become emotionally reliant on its effects, either to elicit pleasure or relieve pain, and does not feel capable of functioning without it. Its absence produces intense cravings, which are often brought on or magnified by stress. A dependent person may have either aspects of dependency, but often has both.
**And I realize that all of you know how to look this up for yourself...The reason I did it was so that if someone NEW came to the forum that the information would be at their fingertips for them to read and understand the difference.****

I am trying to understand and that is WHY I asked the questions. <quoted text> Hi Jo ~ The answer to your question has to do with tolerance. The amount of Methadone that addicts usually start off with in a Clinic setting is approximately 40mg. Tolerance grows...the longer one stays on...the more they need. Methadone is an opioid...just like Percodan, Heroin, Dilaudid, etc. So if one assumes that an addict (not talking about Chronic Pain Patients) goes on Methadone to stop the cessation of craving for their original DOC...you will understand that just like with a DOC, tolerance increases. Cravings hit. They feel the dose is not *holding* them. There are withdrawal symptoms. Ergo...an ever increasing amount of Methadone. Progressive disease. And sweetie...one more thing. 150mg is no big shakes these days in terms of doses. Unfortunate, but true. Doses can go as high as 300 or sometimes more. Sad, but true. Make sense? Warmly, Ar
