After doin some searching, I'm finding that the brown spots are actually Liver spots. Whenever starts effecting your liver, these spots tend to start appearing on the hands, feet, shoulders, and even the head. There are cures and remedies to prevent this, but the best would be to stop taking Metformin.

I have also developed brown spots on my feet, I mean the whole top of my foot and some are actually above my ankles......but with this my feet are tender to touch and sometimes they feel like they are burning so I soak them in cool water and that helps. I've asked several doctors and they all give a different answer, from vericose veins being the problem to poor circulation, being the blood goes down to my feet but doesnt' come back up like it should, thus leaving tiny Purpura. I am frusterated because NO one knows why I am getting them. Dar in Thunder Bay Ontario

I have been on Metformin for about 35 days. I am a diabetic and take a 500mg pill. I am concern because my feet look old and dirty. I used to have beautiful feet. They even swell at times. I went off the Metformin for 5 days and the swelling left, but my feet still look dirty. I am seriously considering going off the Metformin. Bonnie, Jax., Fla

My feet are tender to the touch, burn, and I sometimes have sharp stabbing pains. I am not on metformin and am not diabetic, but I also have brown spots on my toes and white dots on the lower leg.

I was on avandia when swelling appeared in the lower legs. I was then put on metformin and I also got light brown spots appearing on the top of my feet. After reading this column I now know where they have come from.they almost look like freckles.I also get a burning feeling on the lower legs.I do believe this is peripheral neuropathy.

My Dr said the brown spots were actually caused by a buildup of water under the skin...a natural process for type 2 people. I have noticed the few I have disappear and come back at times. I was on Metformin and Glyburide for 3 years and just got off them about 2 months ago...

Im taking two 750 Mg of metformin for the last three years...I have no brown spots, but I do have aching, tingling & burning sensations which seem to be getting more steady all the time. besides this i take one 2 mg glimepride daily. I was lead to beleive this foot pain was due to being diabetic.

I've asked a few different Doc's about it. One says its lack of circulation, the blood goes down, but can't come back up, thus pooling in my feet. I've had one say its liver spots, and should cleanse my liver. One says to lose weight, and it will all be better. Do your ankles swell as well? I went to a massage therapist to work on my calves, to loosen the muscles and get the blood circulating, and later that night, my lower legs broke out in bright red spots, now they are turning brown. I think they were broken blood vessels. What to do?? I have NO idea. I'm just glad to hear that I'm not alone in this.

I actully went to clinical massage school & became a clinical massage therapist...Did you inform the person that worked on you that you have diabetes? If so, then I what kind of an establishment did you go to? What kind of massage did you get? The reason that I ask is because the therapsit needs to know what kind of situation you have going on especially since alot of massage work is contraindicated in ppl that suffer from diabetes & other dieases...Circulatory massage is ok but deep tissue work is not good for ppl w/ diabetes. Ppl w/ diabetes tend to heal at a slower rate & as a result, deep tissue, trigger point & cryotherapy are all contraindicated in ppl w/ this disease. I suggest that you do your research b4 going into another massage because even though massage seems like a pretty easy thing...different medical as well as physical, mental & emotional issues complicate it. It's not just a little rubbing & you get sent home, it's an actual treatment..even if you are at a spa & that's something that alot of customers aren't informed of b4 going into a massage.

As far as I know, I don't have diabetes. I have checked my blood sugar levels, and am normal. Are you saying that these brown spots are totally diabetes related?
