I have been on lipitor for the last 7 or 8 years. I was having problems with my short term memory and walking , I would walk and fall down for no apparent reason and most people thought I was drunk, because of my slured speech. the doctors were doing test on me ,My family has a history of heart attacks and was prescibed liptor. they did a MRI on my brain and found a colloid cyst, where did that come from? Anyways I have tinglin in my feet and legs ,they will twich at random then cramp up bad, so I don't sleep at night very well.
now I have a build up of something in my spine ,which they will operate and remove ,so that my r/s and the rest of me can walk more than two blocks. before I could walk for miles and miles now I'm screwed, thanks for listen |

I feel so much of your pain. 8/30/11 had 2nd spinal fusion surgery. 8/31/11, started Atorvastatin to get fluctuating cholesterol under control. I knew how long fusions take to heal since I had had a 3-level just one year prior. I kept telling my surgeon something wasn't right. I had a lot of leg pain, numbness and something wasn't right. He said it was part of the healing process. I knew it was not right, but no-one would listen. I persisted and finally, in December, surgeon ordered an EMG from my Neurologist. I was diagnosed with Chronic Peripheral Polyneuropathy, failed back syndrome, chronic pain syndrome...list goes on. Much testing was done. I was told all of these issues were idiopathic in nature and they had no idea why I was so ill. All they knew is that I would never get better, would probably get worse and didn't know what to do except prescribe pain pills. I had to quit my job and career and became very depressed.
I had never had any problems previous to 8/30/11, with the exception of some back pain. I have been convinced it was from the surgery. Now, in reading about Lipitor and its side effects, I am most obviously rethinking all of this. I have had increasing memory loss issues, have trouble coming up with my words, have trouble sleeping due to chronic leg pain, have become lethargic, have trouble walking up stairs (we live in a tri-level), have no motivation, have very little energy, am extremely depressed and meds don't help, can't focus...I am 49 years old and feel as if my life has almost come to a dead standstill. I used to walk 5-6 miles per day, was the person everyone came to to make his/her day more upbeat because I loved life, was the most optimistic person no matter what the issue. I have lost ME. I stopped taking the Atorvastatin today. I HAVE to find me again. I have lost so much in the past year and a half..so much I will never get back; however, if I can get a part of ME back, the happy, optimistic, more energized me back, I will be happy. Can a little pill really have taken all of this away from me? I will keep you posted. If this is the case, shame on the pharmaceutical companies for allowing this to happen. I do say shame on my Drs. as well, but if the medication didn't exist, my dr. couldn't prescribe it to me. I will never be pain-free again as the damage that has been done is not reversible, but I want my energy back. I am hoping. Day one. I'll be patient. |

KJG - so sorry to hear of your pain. Your symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had most of them after starting Lipitor. I took it for twelve days, ending in early Nov. 2011, and have spent the year-plus since doing lots of PT and slowly, slowly recovering. I have never gotten a doctor to admit it was the statin, although many nurses and other medical professionals have confided in me that "We see this a LOT". I spent from Nov. 2011 to April 2012. Able to leave my house because I could not climb the stairs - I. Fact, I still have problems lifting my foot the required seven inches. My son actually redesigned and rebuilt our back stairs with four-inch risers.
I've noticed several other people here have developed cysts - the person just before you had one in the brain, another poster had two in her heart, and I've been diagnosed with three since starting and stopping the surge - one in my spine, one in my right knee, and a huge one (14 cm.) in my abdomen which had to be surgically removed. I'm still using a walker and/or cane for stability, still tire too easily. Good luck - with hard work, some recovery can be made. Persevere. Know that others are fighting the fight right beside you. Get PT for strength. |

Cholesterol serves many vital functions in health. Without LDL "bad" cholesterol we could not survive. Our cells depend on cholesterol for structural integrity. Our nerves depend on cholesterol to help form the fatty protective layer protecting our nerves. Our brains are the one organ most dependent upon cholesterol to aide in memory and recall thru a process called synapses. We need cholesterol to help form the bile acids used in digestion. All our steroid hormones are made from Cholesterol. Yes, even testosterone, the sex hormone, is made from cholesterol. I love cholesterol.

I had a triple heart bypass in 1994. Since my open heart surgery my physician prescribed Lipitor to control my cholesterol level. After taking Lipitor for few years I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now I am on insulin regiment to control my diabetes.
I also noticed that my memory has been deteriorating. I'm becoming very forgetful lately. I graduated with an average of 4/4 in MBA. Now I'm taking classes in nuclear medicine, hoping to keep my mind alert and and prevent dimentia. However,I have been failing in class since I cannot memorize terms and easily forget. Sometimes I even forget the names of close friends when trying to introduce them to another person. My memory and forgetfulness is getting worse. My diabetes is being controlled by insulin. I am still taking Lipitor to control my cholesterol level. Is there any class action law suit I can join to let the manufacturer of Lipitor be aware of what their product is doing to its consumers? |

Memory loss has now been added to the list of possible side effects from statins. Cholesterol plays a vital role in brain function. Roughly 25% of the body's cholesterol is used in the brain. It helps with a process called synapses where nerves communicate with each other, aiding in memory.

Started taking Lipitor last September, same time I hurt myself exercising. Finally realized that the pains I had were fom the Lipitor. I would wake up every morning hurting from the neck down. My back and groin were unbearable. I had loss of memory . When I was speaking, I would forget words, not remember names of objects or people. What is the use of having low cholesterol, if you can't get up in the morning, can't excercise, can't get up fom the couch, can't remember everyday words?

I was on crestor for a while til I couldnt take it anymore. The muscle aches, memory loss, always tired,Loss of my mojo!!!!! Im taking red yeast rice now with no side effects.I didnt get my cholesterol tested as of yet.Im gonna get it tested in mid april and will post my results.I would rather have a little higher cholesterol and feel good than walk around like a zombie and have great numbers. |

I was on Lipitor and suffered severe lack of energy, muscle pain, numbness, etc. My clueless doctor at the time just dismissed it like it was just my imagination. Listen to your body, not some
doctor. |
|
You're correct,The doctor wants to keep all his patients on meds that mess up your system so he has a life long patient.Cause if ya feel good then you dont need him and he wouldnt be able to pay his fancy house and car payments. |
|
If you tell your doctor that you suspect side effects and they dismiss you - that's another arena entirely. |

There is no care or concern in medicine with the use of products like the Statin or Mind drugs.
The next step is to stop the forced medicine of a love one or a neighbor from taking these harmful and controlling drugs. The hospital is the place where this PHARMACUTICAL NAZI STATE OF MIND is happening. |
|
Too many person are going to be damaged or die in the interim of any legal procedure to stop the use of these dangerous drugs. What can you use as a substitute in the reduction of cholesterol or Calcium in the arteries without damage to human health. Read, make a list and don't forget the diet. ------- The cash cow of the medical industry is the Statin and mind drugs. The cash cow of the gun industry is the bullet. ----- The (APA) DSM-V is the future version of the Mein Kampf. Bombs and bullets will be replaced with mind drugs and psychotherapy (false memory) in future generations. That's certainly what Aldus Huxley predicted with his fictional Soma and it came true...... .......... No doubt that Statin drugs fit into the equations of Nursing home profits and medical care just like the mind drugs that are moving in the stock trades of Wall Street for the enterprising doctors and investors in medical care if any. |

I've suffered three strokes in the last 2 years and was very happy to be placed on Lipitor. It greatly lowered my bad cholesterol. The last thing I associated my severe weakness, mental confusion, muscle pain, and diarrhea with was my statin. (I'm a woman, small frame, 67 yrs old). When I complained of my misery to my cardiologist, he took me right off the Lipitor. I've only been off it for three days and already I'm feeling somewhat better, perhaps because I was only on it for three months. All I want is my life and energy back.

I too was feeling like crap on a statin drug.I got off them and am now taking red yeast rice wiich is a natural statin without the bad side effects.I feel much better and will post my new numbers in mid april.Being a vegan helps 100% also.Try it for two weeks and you will notice the huge difference.Good Luck suzy-Q. |
