Lexapro and drinking

Hi I wonder if anyone can help me, I just started lexapro last Friday 15th June. I went for about 3 glasses of wine on the following day (I know, stupid of me but i thought, hey just a few glasses of wine) and had an adverse reaction to where I waas really dizzy, incoherent and keep collapsing (though still conscious) Now, I am an irish girl (lol) who is used to consuming quite a bit of alcohol so I'm baffled. Did this happen because my body was not quite used to the Lex in my system? Please help

you will become a lightweight drinking-wise while on lexapro. which totally blows because I love beer, irish cream and margharitas.

Thanks for your advice JJ. hmmm thats a pity because now you mention margeritas, i'd love love a jug of it right now lol. Will I be able to drink as soon as my system becomes used to the Lex?

I have been on lexapro for 3 months. I didn't drink for the first month or so (and it killed me) and when I did start drinking again either I would have 5 beers and be absolutely fine, or have 5 beers and be absolutley drunk and I would black out and not remember a thing. I also noticed that I would have terrible anxiety the day after a night on the town, so I have quit drinking cold turkey. I have a glass of wine here and then, or a beer but that is it.

I totally agree with your observation about anxiety the day after! That is the same for me. I am trying....trying to cut back on the drinks but I still seem to crave them. Best of luck!

I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro for about a month now.(Started on 10mg, then 15.) I'm drinking right now and after three beers and a shot of amaretto I feel fine. I think it might be helping my depression, actually. Make of this what you will. I think SSRI's and alcohol are ok, but you can't mix other types of antidepressants.(Tricyclic or MAOI's or something.) These statements have not been approved by the FDA. HELL no.

God, the amount of alcohol you can drink on Lexapro is so low!
I used to go out and have at least 10 shots and a fair few drinks... but since Lexapro I can have a few glasses of wine and be wasted. Which is far cheaper!

I have been on Lexapro for about 2 months now...and I feel like it is working, although occasionally I will have an incident where I think, hmm, maybe it isn't working? Anyway, I know it isn't a lobotomy, but I want to be happy and not anxious. Maybe it takes longer to kick in fully. As to drinking, I definitely notice that with one drink on lexapro, I feel drunk. And for me, alcohol can be bad news, because I get more reactive and confrontational.

SAME, it blows my mind how littly will knock your brain out of the park, it's a different kind of 'drunk' when you're running into walls, etc. because you actually physically don't know why the hell you're doing it in the first place, and talking becomes an issue indeed.

I'm on lexapro & I thought i'd look up about what side effects i'd have if i drank since some friends want me to come over and have a few drinks, this site really helped alottttt! I drank a lot of wine last night, and am on Lexapro 15mg. I was fine until i started doing really crazy things, i didnt hurt anyone or anything, but really kooky things. I bought a really expensive thing online, and then walked to the shops in the middle of the night without my keys or wallet and decided to take my kitten with me. I vaguely remember walking into the shop and putting the kitten on the counter before realising i didnt have any money. Dont worry, he is not hurt at all, but is strictly an indoor cat. My mum found me on the doorstep saying i took him on an adventue. A few other strange incidences too. Anyways, watch out because luckily i am just a bit quirky, and didnt hurt anyone, but it was like a weird dream. I have pretty bad anxiety so it is quite weird to have done that.

I have been on it for 4 days....I got drunk last night, today, I cant think for crap, locked my kes in my car and not sure if i really like this, stuff, i statred it becuase i felt some anxiety coming on, when I was talking to people in the last 2 months, even though, i have een talking non stop my whole life, i am not sure if i feel this way becuase of the beer and lex or just the lex. I will give it a few more weeks, maybe, but i think i enjoy being a little abit anxious, instead of this feeling of being really slow, confused, It is like it is effecting my memory. I am usually, a funny clever guy, so i have to check this out and make sure it does not effect my wise ass personality. i will try to update you all. J

i usually can drink a pint of vodka or 4 glasses of wine and feel fine last night i drank 4 glasses of red wine and now im so dizzy the room is spinning and i cant stand for long when will this stop? help me

OMG.... I'm glad i'm not the only one.... people thought i was nuts or something. Im a country girl and can't drink quite a few....but since on lexapro I feel drunk after 3. My family has told me wierd things i've done that i didn't remember.... wow.

Ive been on lexapro for 2 year now for anxiety. Ive been taking 10 mg. Ive noticed that lately, I cannot drink more then 2 glasses of wine otherwise I becoming SO drunk and blackout.....its really scary. I drank like everyone else in college, after college, etc and never blacked out or had any issues. Now every time I drink, it becomes a bad situation; I say crazy things, cant stand up, etc. I really think I have to stop all together. The strange thing is, this didnt really happen to me when I first started Lex. now, I am a total waste the next day- SO anxious and nervous and sick. What is going on???

Liv! the same thing happened to me. I have been on Lexapro for a little over a year after being on some other things and the other night i had one drink and totally blacked out. I couldnt remember what i said but supposedly i became very confrontational and aggressive. Its scary to not have control over what i was saying or doing. has this happened to anyone else? I woke up yesterday morning and promised myself i would no longer drink like i could in college because it is just not possible on Lexapro. Good luck!

Just found this forum searching google for "Wine Lexapro". Have been on 10 mg of Lex for 6 months. Have 2 glasses of wine - fine. Have three glassses - blackout totally. Don't remember ANYTHING and the next day feel like crap. Well, I got in a car accident today after work (not drinking and driving) but it goes to show that it fuc*s you up bad. Giving it up - I hope.
