Hello, I'm 35 male who just started lexapro 10 mg day. I have been experiencing a lump feeling in my throat for the last 6 weeks. No trouble swallowing and no pain, just feels like a small piece of food is lodged in there. I have been seen many doctors for this to no avail. ENT (scoped) found nothing, thyroid checked, blood work great, xrays of neck and chest (nothing), even seen a stomach doc and had EGD for acid reflux, he found nothing. My doctor thinks maybe I have some stress issues and decided to prescribe 10 mg lexapro. My question for posting is if anyone has had this lump feeling in there throat and upon taking lexapro for awhile did it finally reside. I have had no prior problems with anxiety, depression, or stress, plus I do not take meds of any kind, only daily vitamins. Also this is my fifth day of lexapro, started having some dizziness, spacey feeling and nausea, wondering the timeframe of side effects to pass. Any help will be much appreciated, this is very frustating with the lump thing. Thank you for your time. Benny

wow, that's funny. i had the same problem about 4 months ago. it was a lump in my throat and i thought i had a hiatal hernia. but i went to a doctor and nothing showed up. he gave me prilosec thinking it was acid reflux. but 2 days after seeing him it went away as fast as it came. i never had that before. i was on 10mg a day. kinda freaked me out. it was hard swallowing food.

Glad it went away for you. How long did you have the lump feeling before it finally went away? Also were you under some stress at the time and show any other symptoms as well? Last question LOL Are you taking any meds, Lexapro, paxil, etc, that might have contributed to the lump sensation to finally go away?
Sry for all the questions, I'm new to this lump thing and after 6 weeks it's starting to get a little old. I pray everyday that I will wake up and it's gone. Thanks for responding to my first post. Any other info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Benny

mine lasted for about 2 weeks. and yes, im on 10mg of lex. i don't believe i was under any undue stress at the time.

it could be stree induced.

you know other people on lex sometimes experience a tightness in the throat. but i believe this symptom will go away. i bet you stressing about might prevent it from clearing up.

Thanks for the info. That's probably what's going on in my head, appears that I need to quit focusing on the lump and move on. That should do it. A little difficult to do but manageable. I will update as my symptoms get better for those of you out there that have this globus sensation. Be positive, It will get better over time, start exercising and don't forget to pray. Thanks, Benny

i have had a lump in throat feeling for nearly 2 weeks. I have done the scope and basrium swallow. i was put on Cilift and Alzam - still not going away. Some say this couldbe a compulsive disorder. Any suggestions on antidepressants that are known to take away lump in throat feeling?

I have had a lump in throat sensation for 4 mos now; have ruled out thyroid problem, had barium swallow and chest xray. My ENT thinks it is an acid reflux problem, but taking prevacid didn't help. Next week I have an endoscopy and am a little nervous about it. I have done research and found that it could be just a muscle spasm, but my ENT dismissed that idea without even discussing it. I suppose that goes along with the idea that it could be stress-related. So, if it helps any, I know what you all are going thru.

I had the lump sensations for quite a sometime while on 40 mg of Nexium (acid reflex) and finally found relief when I started taking it first thing in the morning and not eating for about an hour. This is the only way to get the full dose of medicine.

After taking Nexium for acid reflux and still having the lump in my throat, I went to an allergist. She prescribed Nasalcort AQ. I can't remember the exact terminology, but it was something like "unspecified allergies". It did help after a few days. I hope this helps you.

Hi everyone. I am really freaking out. I have had this tightness feeling for a week now. After numerous googles it seems as though there's no cure for this. It's really frustrating to read that most people that have this for months..and noone can pinpoint what it is. My symptoms are:

In the morning, the tightness is gone
At night it's really bad
It feels like Im getting choked and have food stuck in my throat
I also feel like burping alot, I mean every 5 min.
Maybe it is GERD? WHo knows

It may also be a post-nasal drip. I've had the feeling for a few days now, and in the morning - like many here - the tightness is gone. However, I've noticed that when I wake up, there is congestion in my nose, and as that congestion clears throughout the day, the lump becomes more noticable.

What I would do is check to see if there's any excess mucus on the back of your throat. Also, take some Benadryl or other antihistamine and see if that lessens the symptoms. Many seem to jump onboard the anxiety/GERD/cancer list, and while those things are more likely as time goes on, if you're talking on the order of a week, it may just be a cold.

I have had this feeling Since May. I specifically remember feeling it after a really bad cold. No idea what it could be. Doing some research, I see that it is quite common (that people feel this way but don't know what it is). I am 32, generally very healthy, so this is freaking me out. I keep thinking it is throat cancer or something similar.... If anyone has seen results from WHATEVER treatment, can they please share

I'm a 36 yr old female and I have had this 'lump in my throat' feeling for about a month now, went to the doc - he didn't know what it was either, suggested a chest xray. It's frustrating to read that there isn't a clear treatment, seems like a common situation....

I took 10mg lexapro for approx. two days, I couldn't tolerate the side effects, i've been off for two days now, and I have a tightening sensation in my neck under my chin. I hope it subsides, now that I've stopped the medication.

Hi, I have also had this 'lump in throat' feeling for about a month now. I had an appointment with an ear, throat, nose spec. this Monday but it had to be cancelled to the next so Im hoping she can help me. I sometimes feel like Im choking and have to hold off from runnin to the hospital. I do admit to being under stress, but it is all quite wierd. I have also had a corase voice and the formation of nodules on my throat, so maybe its related. Good Luck all

Hi, Was just reading through all of these posts and wanted to tell you my experience. I started having the lump in the throat feeling about 8 years ago. It actually sometime felt like I was choking to death. Went to emergency room, the doctor thought some sort of sinus infection, gave me medicine did not help. Two nights later same feeling, went to different hospital emergency room
doctor looked in throat and then asked me if I had been under any stress. I had and told him so.
He gave me Xanax and came back 20 minutes later, I was fine. Did every brain test known to man, I have severe panic disorder, have been on Celexa
20 mg. ever since. I feel great and have never had the choking sensation again.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Virgo

Mercury is turning retrograde at just the right time, because it's telling you to consider the validity of your long-term aims and aspirations. If they stand about as much chance of seeing the light of day as you do of winning the Lottery, then you need to streamline them or even abandon them and start again. So think about what you want from life and how you're going to get it. Children and romance may be quite erratic during this phase.
