lamictal and alcohol

I take lamictal for Bipolar Disorder. My shrink said moderate use of alcohol was OK. Others say avoid booze at all cost. Anybody have advice on this?

i recently stated taking lamictal for bipolar disorder. alcohol gives me HUGE headaches. even a few beers does it.

on the same note, i have had constant headaches since taking this med over two weeks ago.

haven't visited the shrink yet, but will soon.

oh yeah, i also take bupropion (generic wellbutrin). after reading other posts, maybe getting off generic all together will help.

I take for severe bi-polar, I drink 4-6 8oz of red wine (only) glasses a night....everynight; have been for decades, start around 4:00pm end around midnight.(Secret take two aspirins before bed..) Absolutly no side effects...none!
Note: However, any OTHER kind of alcohol, I mean any, I get painful throbbing puking hangovers?

When I drink on my Lamital it toally messes me up the next day. Makes me feel like I'm going to have a siezure, therfore my anxiety goes threw the roof!

Q: Did you have this feeling of inminent seizure and anxiety increase only before starting Lamictal? or was it a regular condition after every hangover?
the reaso I ask is that I've allways had this feelings with hangover, I'm taking Lamictal and it doesn't work for that ( for my epilepsy does wonders), but for this the only thing that works is Clonazepan.

ive been taking the generic lamictal for 6 months now, and it works really good for me and dont have any probelms until recent..... after i drink any thing with alcohol in it , the next day my skin will itch really bad and i will get a rash but the next day it will be gone and it will only happen if i drink......can anyone give me some insight on this

I've been taking Lamictal for almost 12 years now, and when I drink at least two beers I feel like Im going to pass out or have a seizure there have been times I have had a seizure. I try not to drink cuz I really hate hospitals.

Im on lamictal for seizures; take 1000mg day for 3 yrs, drinking will not do anything at all. Probably not a great idea but I'll have 12 to 18 beers at one sitting 3 to 4 nights a week.

Alcohol will do nothing to you. I take 1000mg a day for 3 yrs now. Probably not a good idea but I drink 12 to 18 beers a one sitting 4 to 4 days a week.

I've been taking Lamictal for over 2 years now for bipolar disorder. Like you, I've heard lots of people say that drinking alcohol is bad. I drink about once a week and have somewhere between 15 - 20 drinks in one sitting. My psychiatrist says that moderate drinking is allowed, but that in the end it mostly depends on each organism and how much tolerance it has to alcohol. After all, alcohol is a depresant, so go easy at first and learn your limits. My psychiatrist told me that most doctors will not allow you to drink alcohol for fear of future lawsuits in case you do something stupid and want to use the 'my doctor said I can drink' excuse. I've never stoped drinking and I've never gotten any other sideffects diferent to a regular nasty hangover. My tip: drink slowly, learn your limits, practice self control, and never drink while in an episode, either up or down.

I just started taking lamical for epilpsy 6 months ago, before that i could drink lots of liquor and get trashed with no hangovers or little ones. after the medicine my hangovers are horrible. I'll keep puking for hours. One night it didn t end till ten at night

I find when I drink while on lamictal it makes my manic incidents worse. I use to drink every night until about a week ago. I don't have hangovers anymore but yet have headaches from the med. Try to stay clear of alcohol for a few days and you wont want any. I will try a glass in a few weeks perhaps but the thing is you should just have one !!!

I have been on Lamictal for 2 years and was recommended to take Milk Thistle herbal supplements if I consume any alcohol. Milk Thistle comes in 1000mg pills and promotes healthy liver function. To my understanding the mixing of alcohol + lamictal can cause liver damage.
