Both myself and my brother have had an adverse effect to the generic brand. I am told by by doctor that not everyone is a candidate for the generic substitute.

We both experienced severe anxiety, anyone else?

I was on klonopin for 13 years. I built up a tolerance to klonopin. I then started to have a paradoxical effect to the medication. When I took klonopin each day it caused me to be depressed and then I became suicidal. I didn't have any choice but to go to the hospital and come off of the medication cold turkey. It was the worst experience of my life. I had horrific seizures which I suffer with today. I hallucinated and I don't know how to deal with that. My left side of my body I can't feel. There are so many things that I am dealing with at this point as I have just been off of the klonopin for 6 weeks and out of the hospital for 2 weeks. I am hanging on right now and I am awaiting going to see a neurologist about the seizures. I know that I can't get back on the klonopin as it is very, very addicting. Please don't ever get off klonopin or any other medication without tapering it. At first years ago, I loved klonopin and I told my family I would take it forever. I never knew that the medication would make me sick. I almost lost my life to klonopin. I thank the Lord for carrying me and my family through this. Sometimes I think I'm going crazy...but I know in God's time it will all get better. Bless you!

Hi peeps, I am looking for some advice. I have generalzied anxiety disorder and I've been on klonopin for 10 years now, 2 mg/day. I have tried recently tapering it off slowly (over 6 weeks) but still couldn't do it. The worst actually started weeks after my last dose, probably because it is known to stay in the blood for extended times and whatever was left kept me going until I hit the wall. Now I am back on it. I hate to take it because I feel it's altering my personality and perception but I can't seem to quit it either because the anxiety is unbearable and worst of all I get horrible tension headaches round the clock. My question is should I just give in and live with it or is there another way to quit it and possibly get rid of the headaches (the biggest problem). The headaches are due to muscle spasms - if I put hand on my neck or head I can feel the muscles contractin involuntarily, sort of like slow twitching. If anyone had had similar experiences, please respond and share. Thanks.

I used to have anxiety attacks all day every day. Then I went on vacation to itally for two weeks with another girl and we were stupid enough to rent a car and drive to rome. This was the most dangerous and scariest time of my life. When I got home, I started cutting down on my dosage slowly, always thinking about the anxiety I felt while being lost an a large italian town at midnight, thinking I was eiher gonna be killed in a car wreck(they drive carzy!) or robbed( we were lost in a very shady part of town). Thinking wow Im home safe, I made it through that adventure helps me everyday to deal with my panic attacks and they are getting smaller and less frequent. Im now off Klonopin, but it was hard. I had shakes, cold sweat, severe anxiety and panick, crying, laying in bed all day holding my face, covering my ears. I am now out of that Hell and I know anyone can get through it if I did. Try to excercise, drink lots of water, have a huge ass sense of humor, pray to your god or whoever, and try to do something strenuous/hard/adventurous as long as it wont risk your life. Do it now, today is "tomorrow." Don't keep putting it off till tomorrow, there are tons of tomorrows, but there may not be another "now." Of course ask your doctor first. I dont want to be responsible for giving advice they may be dangerous or harmful to some people. But after you ask your doctor, JUST DO IT!!!

i take klonopin for anxiety, panic attacks, as well as an anti-seizure med (in addition to two others). it works pretty well for me. it was strong at first, my body had to adjust to it. i didn't have any side effects like i had with other meds. i started off with one pill per day and now i take two and sometimes three. they are only .5 mil each. the only thing is i believe my body is starting to become immune to it...does anyone else feel the same?

GET OFF KLONOPIN. There are many other less mild drugs out there. My brother 19yrs old was on it for about 3 years in High school after my father had passed away and when he reached his senior year- he realized that he was numb to life, to everything. He couldn't remember what happend all those years. He tried getting off of the pill about a hundred times. Always needing to get back on due to the horrific side effects. He then couldnt take it anymore- thinking he could never have a family(due to sexual problems caused) and he would always feel this emptiness that klonopin and all other Benzo's gave him. He took his life Nov 1, 2006- he always told me to fight klonopin when he was gone (which I always disregarded because I never thought he would be). Please get help now- get off the drug. Its a killer.

I took .5 mg up to 3 X a day for 3 years. I decided to go off the KPin as I found my BP high ( systolic) and wanted to see if getting off the KPin made a difference. It did. My systolic went from 160 back to 115. Big difference. I was told KPin is not addictive, but I had physical withdrawal symptoms and agitation while going off it slowly. Took me two weeks to get off of it completely. I can see taking it as needed and only when having a panic attack, but I will never take it long term again.

Yes, you can build up a tolerance for the dosage. This would probably be the case for any drug, including alcohol. Talk to your Dr about switching drugs occasionally.

I just have to comment on Klonopin and how Dr's give these drugs out so easily. IMO and this is just my opinion is that Dr's ( shrinks ) have an interest in keeping you on the drugs. Without the drugs you wouldn't be coming back to them. Today's shrinks don't do much therapy other than drug therapy.

Not to say that taking the drug is bad. It is often needed for situational issues and to help the user cope. My concern is long term use and how dr's fill up their waiting rooms and don't really seem interested in any other approach that is non drug related. Like Biofeedback...

Personally I would like to see more holistic care for anxiety and other disorders.

do not take this drug.

tolerance happens very quickly and brings with it side effects worse than your original symptoms. i've only taken it for 3 weeks and am now suffering through the most unbelievable withdrawal symptoms you can imagine -- tremors, tics, tingling arms and legs, burning pain.

3 weeks of klonopin. it is a nasty drug, a recipe for long-term addiction.

REMEMBER: Everyone reacts to EVERY DRUG DIFFERENTLY!

I was prescribed Klonopin by my Neurologist (for seizures and anxiety).

Before you make any decisions always speak to your doctor...each body is different and will have different side effects, and of course withdrawal symptoms...

For example, I stopped taking Synthroid and had no withdrawal symptoms. Some people do.

For the reasons I am taking Klonopin, I cannot take a "less mild" drug. I take it in addition to Ativan on occasion.

You should take one or the other. I think Valium is less addictive and easier to wean off.
God Bless!

I take Klonopin for dystonia and have been doing so for 5 years and still works! I am a 23 yr. old male and my question is how long does it take for someone to build up a tolerance to the drug?? I am worried that I will have to be on this drug for the rest of my life. I have tried other meds, but with no success.
