I guess I am going to find out real soon. My husband's surgery is set for Friday December 5th. He has been told to continue on his generic toprol xl and to even take it on the AM of his surgery. I am getting real nervous about this. I will let you know how he makes out. Usually his heart beat runs about 95 and it has gone down to 85 with these meds. He has been on them for approximately 2 weeks. I will let you know how he makes out. Betsy M.

I was switched to generic metoprolol succinate er from Toprol XL because of the usual insurer insistence. I was at 50 mg in the morning and doing well with the Toprol XL.
Less than a year later my doctor has now prescribed 150 mg of the generic twice a day to equal 300 mg a day. Obviously, the junk doesn't work since my blood pressure has soared to 170/110+. He spoke last Tuesday of adding other drugs! Heart is sound. All other statistics are "perfect." Searching the Internet has revealed anecdotal reports about lack of efficacy. Doctors want to read scientific studies. Has anyone found one? Insurer won't pay for what is not in its formulary any longer. Astra Zeneca's "help" price is way beyond my budget. |

I've been taking metoprolol 100 mg/day for a couple of years now. I was just told by pharmacy tech that it had been recalled.
I have experienced numbness in arms, heart palpitations to the point where I feel as though I have to catch my breath, foggy thinking, and memory loss. Would someone please let me know if there is a Class Action lawsuit? Thanks. kathryn@wptfmail.com |

Kathy, see post after this one.
I took Metoprolol ER for less than 2 weeks for tachycardia from hyperthyroidism. Never had a heart problem. On Jan 15th I had a heart attack and on the EKG they found I have a bundle branch block. These kinds of blocks are either a birth defect or caused by a beta blocker. I have attached something interesting, and also there are two law firms that are handling this. I am sure as the list goes on, and now that all the drugs from this manufacturer are being recalled the internet and TV will be swarming with lawyers. This is really bad stuff. Good luck. |

I have been on metoprolol 100 mg 2x a day for well over a year. I've had 2 or more blocked arteries which needed stents since being on it. I've also had memory loss, numbness in my arms and hands and bad cramps in my legs and midriff, and breathing problems. I would really like to know why this medicine was recalled and if anything is being done about it. My druggist just told me it was recalled but didn't know why.
