I have been on geodon for about 3-4 weeks or so now. 80mg taken all at night. For the first 2 weeks in the am I could barely function at all. I take it 'cause I have episodic mania, not BPD. Plus I take 10mg of Klonopin daily for painic. I would like to know long term effects and if I should be bumped to a higher level. My doc is out of town so I cannot check. I also notice that if I eat a heavy meal and then take it, forget it-I'm out. Check the PDR I think food absorption can exacerbate the side effects

i have recently starting the med geodon i have been diagnosed with bpd and was first put on effexor which wired me out and sent me into cycling they switched my meds to 80 mg at day and 80 at night with 1000 mg of depakote. i have had tremendous results and feel like a new person. i swear by this drug and would recommend bpd patients to ask their doctor about this wonder drug.

i have recently been put on Geodon (40)mg 2 X a day. i am also on effexorXR 75mg 1 x a day. i don't like it. i am going to stop taking the effexor tomorrow (cause i already took today's dose) and continue with the geodon. i don't know if its the effexor or the geodon that is causing me to think alot. I don't want to clean house, i have no sexual desire. i am wondering if geodon can be taken alone or does it need to be taken with another psych med as well. if anyone knows please let me know. thanks

I'm on both effexor and geodon, and though I have a few of the odder side effects, I'm used to them from all the side effects I suffered while on just effexor. I was on XR until two days ago, when I asked the dr to switch me to tablets (non xr) for monetary reasons, but surprisingly, the non xr works a MILLION times better for me. I've found that I want to do things more (on the xr and geodon I just wanted to sit like a bump on a log and daydream) and I'm not getting all the nasty side effects (though at the momemt my scalp feels like it's trying to crawl forward...but I think that's from the recycled air where I work.)

I know that on the XR, I also had no desire for sex, and the geodon gave me a little bit of it back, but at REALLY odd times, quite often in the middle of the day while I was at work...BAM, horny. But now that I've switched, I feel that for the first time in almost 8 years that I have a normal sex drive again.

I've been on Geodon about 7 years. I can't praise it enough. The one side effect is phony drowziness---You feel drowzy but you can't sleep.

Geodon was an absolute disaster for me (6@20mg/day. After going five years without any major bipolar issues and eleven years with only a small episode which was handled in outpatient fashion. I was asked to cut over to Geodon due to the medicines relatively low side effects (i.e. low weight gain profile, good long term therapy). Within eight months of being on Geodon I was hospitalized and out on disability for over five months. Went back to work still on the Geodon therapy and within two months was hospitalized a second time. After going back to a higher dosage of my original medicine I am very hopeful and thankful that I had a fall back therapy.

I found this therapy for bipolar disorder to be absolutely disastrous.

The medication gives me a lot of anxiety, hate it. Constant Akatisia. Tooo low blodpressure.
I don't feel normal. I just want to feel Normal. Damn sick feeling.

I want to hammer the Geodon and cipramil molecules with a hevy sledgehammer.

I have been prescribed Lamictal and Geodon for what my psychiatrist thought was bipolar. My psychologist, however, thinks I have BPD. Whichever it is (I'm leaning towards BPD), I feel like CRAP!! I haven't been to work except for a brief 4-hour stint in almost a month. The false drowsiness of the Geodon (taken at night) drives me crazy, and I still wake up between 2 and 4am. I don't know which causes the hyper-mania, along with the laundry-list of other side effects, but I have so much restlessness I can't think straight and clean house all day long. I'm so irritated, I'm afraid to go back to work for fear I'll punch a coworker for being "too slow". I've backed down to the lowest dosages on both, fired my shrink, and have an appointment on Sept. 12th with a new guy. Hopefully, he'll prescribe something else that doesn't interfere with my life. Oh, as for any benefits, I can't stop the cutting compulsion any better now than I did before. So much for "practicing medicine"...

i just started taking geodon about a week ago. i was diagnosed bpd and ill say that i love everything about it so far but the drowsiness. does it go away after awhile? i thought about going off of it because i cant get anything done at work but not the whole time on it just about 2-5 hours into it i feel like im going to fall asleep. hope it goes away.

do not stop taking any medicine abrubtly. Call your pharmacist. They know the medication well.
The side effects from stopping abrubtly are worse. Write a list daily of problems and also of how you are functioning for your doctor. Journaling the way you feel helps the DR. make the right choice in medication.

sounds like your still manic and need something to control it.

I have been takin GEODON for three weeks because my therapist perscribrd it to me I stopped taking I had heard voices before but now I am in hell. I have been having voices taunting me constantly. I talked to a nurse and was told that it does the oppposite effect than perscribed to someone who is not pyschotic. My speech is constantly slurred I have wet the bed twice I am bipolar and have ocd coming off of this drug is torture I am not the person I was before I took this drug. Please and I say please really think if this medication is for you. Every negative effect has happened to me that can, wrestling with the sheets is a good one everynight its like that and I do cry because this antippsypschotic has made me psychotic BE AWARE

Took Geodon 40 last night and today was the best I have felt mentally for a long long time. Was frightening trying to get myself going this morning though. Was dragging ass but by about 3 pm was feeling more energetic. I sure hope the drowsiness goes away because I sure like my mental cohesiveness.

i have recently been hospitalized twice in the last month mostly for depression and have been diagnosed with BP1 disorder. before going to the hospital my neurologist put me on effexor for depression it immediately sent me into a tailspin where i was extremely depressed and had thoughts of suicide and could not get out bed for 2 weeks. in the hospital the psychiatrist took me off of the effexor and started me on Geodon. i also have had seizure in the past so they then added the lamictal. everything is now back almost to normal. i think they will take me off of the geodon once the dosage is increased enough on the lamictal. i am truly grateful for the medicine and can't believe i had to be hospitalized i have never had that kind of depression and i'm 34 years old!

I too am on Geodon 180mg. I start taking the effexor tomorrow.
I have been on many different meds for bipolar over the past 15 years. So far Geodon has been working for me. I just haven't found anything to help with the anti depressant.
