Has anyone out there had any blood pressure issues after being on Fosamax?
My mom, age 84, took for about one year. Shortly after being on it she developed high blood pressure. She took bp meds but didn't like the way they made her feel...started uping her dosages of flax seed and flax seed oils, etc. Was getting her pressure checked and wasn't too bad.
Then she developed eye pressure. This really scared her so she finally followed my advise and got off the fosamax (feb).
Now she just had suffered a tear in her aorta. I did find one recent article linking these drugs to heart valve damage....
Just wondering if any other similar stories.
I really think this crap caused these 2 problems, along with her continued back pain. Once she came off the crap she was actually feeling better, walking better, etc.
Thanks FARCAMAX!! I am now watching her suffer in the critical care cardiac unit, in pain and disoriented..
DID YOU DO THIS OH WONDER DRUG??? Got to wonder.
Thanks for your input! Together we need to get this dangerous poision off the market!

My 77year old mother developed high blood pressure and a terrible cough, dizziness, and headache 6 months after starting Fosomax Plus D.
Prior to taking Fosomax she had no need for other medications. Now she is on Beta-blockers, Calcium channel blockers, Diovan and now Prilosec.

My Question. Is there any literature out there about Fosomax Plus D connecting it with heart failure or hypertension?

the reports popped out lately.
eg: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18443859/
(interesting to note that they always say "in a small numbers of patients", but if you add all those small numbers from ostenecrosis of the jaw, from the heart problems, from the serious GI effects it all ends up in a BIG number!)

First it is important that you all report this to the fda https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwat... and then click on begin on the right.
Secondly I again strongly suggest to go back to the good old calcitonin spray and leave the bisposphonates behind.( www.fortical.com as an eg)

Thanks for the sites..I did file my FDA report, for what it is worth. BIG PHARMA has so much influen$e over the FDA it'$$cary. you know?
Just wanted to share this...for those scared by their drs. re: osteo..
my cousing refused to take ANY of the dangerouns poisions...she walks almost every day, takes calcium, magnesium and vitamin D and also a product called BIOSIL (buy at VITACOST.com ). 6 drops in water or juice a day.
she went for bone density (she is 61) and the dr. office called her...all excited (and very confused)..her bone density DID go way up! so they had egg on their faces...had told her ONLY way to improve bone health was the poision drugs!

we need to keep spreading the word...this stuff is poision...and FDA is NOT going to take off the market until lots more suffer and/or die.

I heard report on cbs morning show today...re: statins (lipitor)#1 $elling drug in the world.
96 patients suffered tendon issues,(torn, ruptured or tendonitis) while on lipitor...guess how many in the study? 96!! but 100% getting this side effect still equated to "the drug is safe and is not related to this tendon issue"..

so that says a lot about how we ARE NOT protected when it comes to wonder-drugs and the FDA.

I will not even go for cholesterol test..i figure good diet, exercise, etc and my risks are still less than all the statin side effects...heart damage, muscle damage (isn't the heart a muscle?) hormone depletion, memory and cognitive decline, amnesia...sorry all that doesn't add up to less risk than the drug "prevents" (supposedly!)
Good luck to all.
thanks for replies..

I have always had low blood pressure. Having a pressure of 110/70 was cause for alarm. My family history of strokes and high blood pressure made me wary. I started taking Fosamax more than a month ago. My blood pressure today was 155/74. The other day it was 154/72. I wonder if I should stop taking it. Osteoporosis runs in my family, too.

Started taking Fosamax three weeks ago with blood pressure at 110/70 (am 55 and have never had a blood pressure issue). Went to doctor today and blood pressure was 160/85. I'd sooner take my chances with osteoporosis than a stroke, so will explore other avenues.

Have you found an alternative? Do you think Fosamax was the cause of your hypertension?

My 72 year old mom began taking Fosamax in October. She has always been resistant to meds but Dr. scared her re: Osteoporosis. For the past two months, her blood pressure taken weekly has measured 188/86--she's never had hypertension before. She also had heart palpitations but thought her thyroid was out of sorts. However thyroid test came back normal. Can only surmise that Fosamax is to blame for this dramatic increase in blood pressure. No thanks--will assume risk of fracture rather than risk of heart attack or stroke.

Fosamax has been reported to cause atrial fibrilation in some patients, thus increasing the blood pressure. You can "google" atrial fibrilation and fosamax and read all about it.
This drug is DANGEROUS!!!!!!! Hope your mom feels better

Taking Fosamax has not affected my blood pressure at all. What I am complaining about is that everytime I take the medication it gives me the jiggers and seems like the tablet stays in my throat. I have drank 40floz of water and still not out of it. How I wish they put it in a capsule or maybe make a round tablet instead of a long flat one.

Eleanor:

I'd be VERY scared if you are having the feeling of the tablet being in your throat. There are quite a few cases of throat cancer now related to this pill.
Do yourself a favor and flush it down the toilet, relax, eat well, exercise as best you can and take calcium, vitamin D, magnesium supplements..and ENJOY LIFE! Stop stressing out over this "created" disease.
Go to http://www.gilliansanson.com
and read about how BIG PHARMA once again has duped us!
Good luck...I hope you have the strength to tell the Dr and big pharma NO! to their poisions.

I have been on alendronate for about 2 years.I haven't felt well lately with palpitaions eratic blood pressure and high blood sugar which I have never had. I have also had digestive problems.
I have come off them for 3 weeks and already feel better. The palpitaions have reduced so I am hoping that things will now settle down.
I am just writing this to advise people to be careful.

Three years ago I was put on Evista and experienced elevation of BP, went off it and started the Fosamax 3 months later when BP normalized.I was concerned about slowly elevating BP (155/90) after taking Fosamax+D for close to a year. I stopped taking the Fosamax about 3 months ago and now my BP is regularly 128/82. Won't be going back on either Evista or Fosamax and will look for alternative to treating my osteopenia. What now, I wonder....

How long does it take for fosamax to clear your system and blood pressure to return to normal?
Mine still reach 180 at times. No more for me.

When I was on Fosamax once weekly, I had heart palpitations for the first time in my life. My blood pressure remained normal, but I did not take it while I was having the palpitations. Later, I read about Fosamax causing atrial fibrillation in some cases. I was glad I got off it.

Some of you have wondered what to take for osteoporosis if not the bisphosphonates. Consider strontium citrate, which you can buy at a health food store or online distributor. I have been taking it for 14 months now, with no negative side effects except mild constipation at first. I started a non-commercial blog to relate my progress, tell others about this supplement, and post updates about it. Please visit and comment at http://strontiumforbones.blogspot.com/

after four doses Fosamax my life long normal to low bp topped 186/114. Now on bp meds and have had to increase it twice from initial dose. I do not believe in coincidence. I am 76. Had to stop cholesterol meds. All this preventive med is making me sick. Will cont. to treat BP but I feel I will eventually be able to stop it also. When all the poisons are gone from my body. Doublt I will live that long...

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Be very careful when handling financial matters today because not everything is as straightforward as it seems. For instance, someone may tell you about a fail-safe way of making money but neglect to mention all the reasons why it's totally illegal. There could also be mistakes if you're spending money, such as being short-changed or overcharged. So watch out!
