I have been taking fosamax for nearly 5 yeaars and keep hearing things like after time it causes the outside of bones to become brittle. I didn't take my dose today because I am afraid of the things i have been hearing.

I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis and have benn taking a 70mg pill once a week now for about 4 years. Recenly I read that it causes a serious side effect called osteonecrosis a bone condition of the jaw and other bones. Although the incidence frequency may be low, I plan on talking to my doctor about it since i feel that I should stop taking the medication asap. May I have your comments please in regard to the foregoing. Thank you. < robertalrisk@aol.com >

I would be interested to know what your doctor told you , robertalrisk@aol.com. I have two doctors telling me to take it but I quit taking it over a year ago because of what I have heard.

I took fosamax for 3 and half years only to find out that my osteoporosis made my hip area worse.
The dr could not explain this. Also, my dentist has
refused keep me on as a patient while I am taking this medication. I have a friend who had two dental implants 5 years ago, and all was well until
she started taking fosamax. Unfortunately, she
developed infection in both areas of the implants,
and needed three surgeries to correct the problem.
She is still not out of the woods. Her oral surgeon
told her that is was from the Fosamax. NO WAY will
I continue this medication. Have read and heard too
much and it is frightening. I am 57 years old and
have osteo, but will fight it will exercise and
vitamins. Good luck

I quit the Fosamax th is week after 3 yrs of use. I told my Dr about the dead jaw bone disease and she said it is mostly for IV form of the version.. I told I do not are I am off it. Then I proceeded to ask if there are any guarantees to say on this drug will prevent breaks and fractures. She said no

I finally called my Primary Dr and told him I will
no longer take Actenol or Fosamax. I saw an Endocrinologist who specializes in Osteo. He wanted
me to take Foreto injections and I said NO WAY!!!
I asked him why all the "talk" about Osteo in the
last 10-15 years. Told him my mother lived to be
82 and my grandmother was 99. They never were told about osteo. Neither Dr could answer my
question. Also, I am seeing my dentist next week
as I have a crown and the gum has receded and is exposing the root. I pray this not be the effects
of these drugs!!!! I have no more knee pain or
joint pain since I stopped these drugs. The dr
said it was all in my mind. Well, its time to find
another Dr!!!!!!!

I've been on fosamax for 3 years and has not caused me any harm. In fact my lower back and all the pains in my body went away after taking it for a year. I had my second bone test and my bones have improved 50%. This is not a drug you stay on my doctor said. He only wants me on it for 4 years.

My mother who is going to be 70 was diagnosed with osteo and aside of that ever since I was a young girl, I remember she having pain on her lower back and now it has gotten worse. She was taking fosomax 70mg tablet once a week and when I read the side effects I told my dad that she needs to stop taking the medication. Now a days, doctors are wanting to keep all older people under drugs instead of searching for natural remedies. I try encouraging my mother to do stretching exercises, drink plenty of water and try to get out of the depression by getting involved in community charities. If you have joint problems go to a Natural Food store and by a spray or roll on called STopain (contains glucosamine, MSM and Boswella) and apply it to the area of your body that is hurting. This helps taking ONE LESS DRUG PILL. If you have any suggestions please HELP!

My son in his twenties has neurofibromatosis and a recent bone density scan showed thinning of his hip joint. The rheumatologist he saw prescribed Fosamax and I'm alarmed at the horror stories about this drug and told him to go back to his GP.

I have taken Fosomax for about 12 years and have gone from a severe case of Osteoporosis and my last bone density shows I now only have Ostopenia, which usually precedes osteoporosis. It reversed the disease to it's present state. I now have a new doctor who recommends I stop taking it due to my bones are saturated enough to last the rest of my lifetime. The bones can only only absorb so much of the good of the Fosomax and will not take anymore. So, I happily stopped. What was the reason the first doctor had me take it so long. I was told this was way too long.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
