Does anyone have an idea as to how long fosamax remains in the system after one has discontinued use of it?

The problems being considered as a result of taking fosamax sound horrible. Besides facial disfigurement, is jaw bone decay ever fatal?

I am 63 and have been taking Fosamax for about 6 years now and have had positive results regarding the loss of bone mass. The areas around my hips still are not what they should be but my spine has greatly improved. I see the dentist 4 times a year for cleaning and have xrays taken once a year. My dentist has never mentioned anything regarding a problem with my jaw and she is aware that I take Fosamax. I hate to see people possibly over react to the media's stories and stop taking medication that may prevent them from breaking a hip. It would seem to me that consulting your doctor and dentist would be a prudent course of action before jumping to conclusions that Fosamax may be rotting your jaw. For you guys out there taking Fosamax, remember that we males have a very high death rate after a hip fracture. I do not think that taking your Fosamax for a week or two until you can talk to your doctor or/and dentist and see what they reccommend will cause your jaw to fall off.

The Article in the April 2 LA Times indicated that 5 years would be the answer to your question.

I've ben taking Fosamax for 2 years but recently started having muscle and joint pains. I stopped taking the medication and my pains are almost gone. Anyone else experienced these symptoms?

Thank you, Richard, for the calm voice of reason. That is exactly what I plan to do (talk to my dentist and dr.)

This is the second time I have tried to take Fosamax (after trying Actonel which gave me terrible muscle and joint pains for 2 weeks). I now have constant stomach ache and was wondering if this ever goes away. As I read more, it looks like not and therefore I am probably going to stop taking it. I do have some muscle pain - I have taken about 6-7 doses.

I've been taking Fosamax for three years, and started to have pain in my hip joints last summer. I would take Fosamax on Sunday, and be in pain on Wednesday and Thursday. The last time I took it was April 9th. I did not have the hip pain the next week in the same intensity. My hip pain is not as severe this week. I did call my doctor, but haven't heard back from her. I'm going to try to see an Orthopedic specialist and see if there is any damage.

biological half life of fosamax is up to 80 years ..("The time required for half the quantity of a drug or other substance deposited in a living organism to be metabolized or eliminated by normal biological processes. Also called biological half-life." )

Annette, I began taking Fosamax about 15 months ago, then Boniva about 8 months ago. I began noticing muscle and joint pain about 6 months ago, particularly after being idle for 20 minutes or so. I have an appointment May 5 with my GP, to get his opinion. I'm 60.

I have stopped taking Fosamax after all the reports coming out in the news. I hope I have not
waited too long. I have taken it for 4 years. I have a lot of pain in whole body.

Yes! I'm 37 years old and have been taking fosamax on/off for 5 years because I'm on a moderate dose of prednisone. Last year, I developed serious joint pain in my lower back and on of my knees. I'm on several medications and became very sick. I stopped all meds except the prednisone to try and isolate which med was causing me to be ill. While doing so, I found the one that was making me ill and I found another one the was making my joints kill! Fosamax. After being off of it for months, my joint pain slowly diminished. We'll I started the Fosamax about a month ago and guess what. The joints are flaring! I need to be on something to help maintain my bone mass, but this is too much. I'm thinking about pulsing the meds. Once every two or three weeks...we'll see how the bone density turns out.

I took Fosamax for 15 months and I had bone pain off and on. I've been off of it for about 3 months now and I no longer have the bone pain. I'm worried about my jaw though. I need dental work and I'm afraid to have it done.

Hi, my mom is 82y.o she's been taking Fosamax for 3 years already. I need advice about discontinuing the medication. Because lately she's complaining that her jaws sometimes ache and her dentures are always falling off her gums. Its like twice a month we adjust her dentures. Is this related to the effects of Fosamax. Please, anybody can give advise on this.

If you look on various websites one must notice that fosamax, boniva, actonel etc cause so much troubles. The only med that hasn't any side effect is www.fortical.com (generic like version of www.miacalcin.com )

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Pisces

You have a one track mind today, dear Pisces, and it's running along very ambitious lines, absolutely determined to achieve something you've been attempting for ages. Can you be so committed that you're prepared to let everything else go by the wayside for the time being? That's great, but don't become obsessive about it.
