Asthma sufferers may be able to cut their use of inhaled corticosteroids and still prevent attacks by using a combination drug or a once-a-day pill, which may pose fewer long-term risks, a new study shows.

As someone who has been on inhalers for many years I can give you my input which is:
I found Albuterol 17 grams inhaler to be better than the new Xopenex HFA (evabuterol tartrate) which the VA is now giving its patients.
I for one didn't find that Flovent, Advair or Singulair did me any good.
I use my inhaler as needed rather then at specified times, especially when I'm starting to have an attack.
I have found from many many years of experience that doing the following helps me considerably.
When I start coughing I immediately blow my nose, give myself a shot of the inhaler, and keep my lips pressed together, and breathe through my nose.
Does the trick every time.

Stan...for me Singulair and Accolate gave me ulcers and stomach upset so bad that I had to stop. Flovent HFA works as a maintenance but not as a rescue for attacks. Please read some of the many comments on our petition.

Aa a long time sufferer of Asthma (I am 50 this year and was diagnosed when I was under 12), I have found that Advair works wonders and preach the benefits of it whenever I can. AND, I do not have any of the side effects. It cut down my use of a rescue inhaler (Alupent) from using 1 full bottle every 2 weeks to refilling the RX every 2 MONTHS! I know we are not all alike and it is best to consult your doctor, but these new drugs are sometimes better than sliced bread.

In June of last year my nine year old son was diagnosed with severe asthma. I found myself sitting up with him every night just listening to him breath. His wheezing got so bad that you could hear it on the other end of our house. He would sneeze continuously every morning. Being the mother that I am I would find myself walking into his bedroom all during the night to check on him. All the doctors would do was keep prescribing medicines that seem to do nothing for the problems. That is when my friend told me about Pionair Air Purifiers. I put a Pionair unit in my son’s room and we have not had a problem since. He has gone from having to use his inhaler several times a day to sometimes not having to use his inhaler at all. You can find this air unit at www.pionair.net
