Please visit your local health food store and explain your problem - drugs are a last resort.

Most of the herbs sold at health food store are a waste of money for medical problems. I used saw palmetto and other herbs for years to help with an enlarged prostate and they did absolutely nothing. Research studies show saw palmetto is useless.

I'm 64 years old,no prescription drugs, watch my diet,I'm up once on average each night.I've found that the Vitamin Shoppe's Prostate Health Support works best for me.It could also be the quercetin/bromelain (for sinus)combination thats helping. The best way for me to express myself is to say that peeing has become a pleasure.

Where is this Vitamin Shoppe's Prostate Health Support, located? I have been taking a Prostate formula, lycopene, and zinc. It seems to be helping, I am trying to get off of Avodart and Flomax totally. They cause severe side effects.

Stop at your local Vitamin Shoppe on 45th St and ask them for a bottle of their Prostate Formula.

I have used Flomax for 2 weeks. I have noticed a decrease in the amount of semen and not a typical ejaculation, more strained. There are periods of time that I have a strong erection with little stimulus. The good news--- urine flow has increased moderately. But, I am not sure it is worth it while it creates these other side effects.
I am open to suggestion. I welcome your comments.

I used Flomax for 1 week before giving up. I had the same dry ejaculation that many have. But far more severe was the nasal congestion - I couldn't breathe.
I concluded that breathing was more important that peeing. Prostate is continuing to grow and peeing is getting increasingly weaker. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Paul, the congestion, or better known to doctors as Rhinitis is a side effect of Flomax, as well as the ejaculatory dysfunction. I would suggest to your physician to switch to Uroxatral 10mg and see how you do on those. There has been less side effects with uroxatral and i would give it a try for a month and see.

I've had an enlarged prostate for close to 10 years and tried herbal supplements with very little success. It wasn't until it got to the point that I needed to pee almost once an hour that my urologist prescribed Flomax. It helped me within 48 hours. However, I do have the retrograde ejaculation and nasal congestion side effects. Recently I have developed a dry hacking cough that occurs about 2 to 3 hours after taking Flomax. Has anyone had a similar experience?

What is it about flomax that causes the retro ejaculation and why is it Uroxatral does not have that side effect as much...Does that mean Uroxatral is not a powerful?

For those trying to get off flomax, food originating from grain causes the inflamation and foods originating from greens shuts off the inflamation:

1. Take one table spoon of Flax Seed Oil a day mixed in with a small bowl of cottage cheese. Take one tea spoon of cod liver oil every night. You will notice a difference within the first week.

2. Cut out the bread from your diet and eat less cereal. ie less grains and more organic fruit and veg. Find out about the powerful natural foods that grow naturally out of the ground, blueberries, broccoli, raspberries, tomatoes. Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory.

3. Take a good multi vitamin tablet every day and an extra vitamin C tablet. Never enough Vit C in a multi!

4. Take a healthy prostate supplement containing Saw Palmetto and Pygeum and zinc

5. Get out of breath every day, swim, jog etc

6. After 45 days of the above, ask your doctor if you can "tighter down" the flomax. ie take one every other day rather than every day. Continue the reduce the flomax gradually. Never suddenly stop taking the flomax. Always get the stupid medical advice but keep an open mind!

Since taking FLOMAX I have often had a dry hacking annoying dry cough that is almost like an asthma attack. I have been to my patologist and there is no asthma present . I even took chest X-rays and they were fine.
Although I have had this dry caough since I was a teenager my sense is that it has gotten worse since taking FLOMAX. I am planning to ask my doctor to switch me over to UROXATRAL and see how it goes.
