Anyone out there taking Evista? And if so, have you had any side affects? I did try Boniva and Actonel but they both caused terrible bone pain and stomach pain.

I have been taking Evista since 1998 for osteoporosis prevention. I have very healthy bone density tests and have maintained them over these years. The only side effects are night sweats, maybe once per night, and occasional hot flashes.

I HAVE BEEN TAKING EVISTA FOR 10 YEARS. THE LAST YEAR I HAVE EXPERIENCED VERY TENDER LEGS, SORE TO TOUCH, BRUISE EASY, AND VERY
RESTLESS WHEN SITTING A LONG TIME. I BELIEVE THE LONG TERM USE OF EVISTA IS CAUSING THIS LEG PROBLEM. |

I started taking Evista since early April (28 days now). I read that Evista interacts with cholysteramin which is in Questran, so I have stopped Questran. Questran is treated for my high cholesterol. And it is the only medicine I can take because I am allergic to statins. Have tried all cholesterolmedicines in the market but all has given me muscle pain because of the statins. Questran doesnot contain statins.
Please, can anyone help me? I need both medicines, how can I manage this? I had a bloodtest done yesterday and my cholesterollevels have gone up after I took Evista and has stopped Questran. |

By the way, I have tried Actonel also and it caused a severe stomach pain.

Have you tried taking Lecithin for your high cholesterol? Lecithin is a natural product which comes in several forms. The most effective is a granular form that can be sprinkled over your food, or added while cooking. Lecithin emulsifies the fat in your veins and prevents plaque buildup. Exercise is also another good way to reduce cholesterol. If you are unable to do strenuous physical activity, even walking or weight-bearing activities are beneficial. |

I took evista for 4 months then my legs began to ache day and night. I got very little sleep because of the constant ache. I stopped taking evist and within 7 days the ache was gone.

My doctor has just prescribed Evista for me. However., I'm worried about the side effects and was wondering how old your mother is? I'm 59. |

My bone density scan shows that I am at a moderate risk for both hip & spine fractures. My gyn gave me samples of Evista today. I was told that the risk of blood clots in the legs was very small. I can't take Boniva, Fosamax or Actinol because I have SEVERE GERD, for which I am taking Prilosec once a day (for years). I had been taking Prilosec twice a day until recently, when I became worried that it might be affecting my calcium absorption. I am 50 years old, caucasian, small-framed, but NOT YET IN MENOPAUSE. This concerns me also, since I just read that Evista should not be taken by women who are premenopausal. Does anyone out there have any info that might help me make my decision as to whether or not I should take Evista?

Yes, it's me again. Just found a website that states that Evista can cause ovarian cancer! That really bothers me, since my sister had ovarian cancer. For the past 5 years, I've been checked every 6 months for this disease. Why would I take this drug that increases my chances of getting ovarian cancer?

I am 53 yrs old & have been on Evista for 3 yrs because of a high family history of breast cancer. The first 2+ yrs. I was premenopausal, & now going through menopause. I did not have any hot flashes,(or other side effects), the first 2 yrs, but now are having occasional hot flashes, but think it's attributed to normal menopaus, not a reaction to Evista. I have been told that the biggest concern for premeno. women taking it is unknown possibility of birth defects IF you get pregnant!. |

Has anyone heard of Evista causing Osteonecrosis of the jaw (like Fosamax is said to do?) I would like to know before I start taking it.

I was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer in 1997 and was placed on Evista for "my bones" and to "help prevent another go around with breast cancer". This month I was diagnosed with Stage IIC ovarian cancer and am now going through treatment. I think that Evista has something to do with all of this. If you are taking it, do the research and see what Eli Lily might be hiding from all of us! If there is anyone else out there in my shoes, please write

I have been taking Evista for several years now. I had problems with Actonel such as major reflux. I am now on Nexium and do not take Actonel any longer. However, for the past year I have complained to my physician and dentist about jaw pain. Last summer I had my first EKG to see if I had any heart problems. Now I have seen the Fosamax ads on tv about the class action suits and believe that I have a clue as what my jaw pain was from. I do believe there is a direct connection.
