I've been (happily) on Enbrel since 2001. I am thinking of a career change to either respiratory therapy or radiology tech. Should I avoid either of these fields because of my lowered resistance to infection?
Thanks for any suggestions. |

I work in a hospital everyday, including a significant amount of time in an ICU. I've been on Enbrel for 8 months and (thankfully) have not had any significant infections. I would use standard precautions, including droplet precautions when in contact with anyone with possible TB. The risk is low, but if you're going to be performing deep suctioning as an RT, you should probably always wear a mask. Otherwise, I would not let it get in the way of pursuing your dreams! Good luck.
