My 13 year old daughter has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The Dr. has suggested she take Elavil to help her sleep better. She has trouble falling asleep, staying asleep and waking up feeling restful.

Does Elavil cause any oral problems? I feel like the inside of my mouth has slits...all the food that I eat hurts my mouth...does anyone have anything similar and what can be done to prevent this mouth discomfort?

I take elavil to help me sleep. I take 75mg. I also will be taking prozac 20mg. I have taken elavil for a long time. It helps me sleep great. If I do wake up I go right back to sleep. Even if my son wakes me up at night I can go right back to sleep. I love elavil it really has helped me so much.

I was put on Elavil for Migraines, I tried to keep an open mind trusting my nerologist, but i hated the medicine and it i had too many side effects.

Is elavil prescribed for depression? My son was put on it cos he was always complaining of abdominal aches. The doctor thinks its from anxiety or worry. Does this sound right? Does anyone really know, I'm concerned.

I am a curent user of Elavil, and I experieced many things that weren't on any website or bottle that I ever read. along wiht the slurred speech, constant talking, and confusion, I also experieced numbness, sometimes major headaches (which is what I was prescribed Elavil for in the first place) as wel as all the listed side effects. Though I never had a heart attack, I fainted several times while taking it, usually within the hour after taking the pill. My dosage was cut down from 25 mg to 10 mg and then I even had to cut the 10mg pill in half and take it at different intervals.

I just began Elavil (25mg) and I took it just as I was going to bed. It hasnt helped my sleep and I wonder if I should be taking it a half hour before bed? instead of as I get into bed. What have been your experiences as to time of day with this drug?

my niece (8 year-old) is being placed on elavil for abdominal pain - your concern:"Does this osund right?" is my concern - when was your son placed on elavil? I had the shingles last summer and after the pain left I was left with slightly blurred vision in an eye....Has anyone had that problem????I am currently taking 50mg. of elavil at bedtime to help with some of the uncomfort...

My brother just passed away 4 days after taking Elavil 10 mg.. He was ONLY 26 years old. I was reading the comments posted and children should NOT take Elavil, under no circumstances. It is a horrible drug with A LOT of nasty side effects.

If you are experiencing adverse reactions, please report them to the FDA. After reading your comments, I searched www.adverse-drug-reaction.net for adverse reactions to Elavil (reported between April and June, 2007) and only found:

1 report of SUICIDE ATTEMPT

1 report of LOSS OF CONSCIOUSNESS
1 report of INTENTIONAL OVERDOSE

My daughter was prescribed Amitriptyline (Elavil) for headaches. I now believe this caused her resent overdose. I've recently read it causes depression, acts of dangerous impulses/ attemped suiside. The side effect info the pharmacist gave me didn't state this. The more I read about it online, the more I'm regretting her taking it. I would read up on it more if I were you. It never helped her headaches, but the doctore kept upping the dosage. She's getting a new doctor.
