It is hard to stay off because the effects of quit last much longer than most people suspect.
What happens when you put extra serotonin in your brain is this. Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitor means just that the serotonin is not reabsorbed but stay in synaptic cleft flooding the receptor. This is not a normal state for the body the body knows it and takes action to right what it feels is wrong so gradually the body shuts down receptors and stops making so much serotonin. So when you quit taking the drug the flood stops but not only that there are not enough receptors to take up the little serotonin your body makes. WA la withdrawal and the body cannot adapt that fast so it lasts a couple of years. That is why a slow taper is needed to give the body time to adapt. There are other parts of the body affected by serotonin stomach hormones adrenals pancreas blood platelets liver kidneys ect ect Severe issues with any of these systems can make a taper not an option like in my case. Getting doctor to say this may never happen not sure why, but it was my experience quitting made me better but withdrawal was hell. Thing is to expect withdrawal to take a few years. Be prepared to go a long time and stack the deck in your favor to get off and stay off. plan to deal with withdrawal issues by know what they are educate yourself read read read find out form others how they dealt with each issue. Now with effexor there is also norepenepherin to factor in there is not so much talk about that so I dont know. Some have said to take prozack to get off but I have seen work out yet. |
