For Canadians there is a man named Terrance Young he is the mp for oakville in ontario he has wrtten a book called death by prescription after his daughter died due to drug side effects. He is trying to change drugs safety in Canada. I first leaned of him on a local tv show called the Agenda with Steve pakin it can be viewed online. worth watching as it talks the working of our govt and big pharma. Not sure if any are looking to be active about these or any other drugs but he may be a good one to speak to if you are.

I am 38 years old an have been on effexorxr for about9 years. I have recently reduced myself from 150mg to 75mg..After reading about the side effects. I suffer now from iritable bowel, enlarged prostate, sweating, high blood pressure, blurred vission, headache, chronic fatigue, and i have gained over 60lbs. Now that i have past the first couple of days of brain zaps, dizzyness,I am feeling like i did many years ago prior to taking them. I am still on them but weaning myself off. I have suffered, loss of marriage, promotions at my work, and have actually been demoted twice due to fatique caused by effexor. I am honestly trying to take my life back into my own control.. My doctor had prescibed it to me after taking zyban, as the zyban did not help me quit smoking, but it made me feel good... So the doctor thought effexor would benefit me.. No one told me what i should expect.. If I knew what i knew now, I am sure i wouldn't be on this poison, and i am sure my doctor wouldn't have prescibed it either...
So, count me in... dlea4923@rogers.com

I'll bet everyone here has learned a valuable lesson: Research all drugs you're given/prescribed BEFORE taking a single pill. Get on the internet and act like a detective; snoop out every little blog, chatroom, scientific paper - everything. Then balance out the good and the bad and make, at least, an informed decision. If I'd had the sense to do that prior to my Paxil torture (five years worth), I'd never have taken it and wouldn't be suffering its after-effects two years after total withdrawal.

Word.

I only got a computer 2 years ago about the same time I quit taking effexor. I only wish I had one 5 years earlier when effexor was given to me. I will forever search every drug before I take it. I cant help but wonder now about people that don't have computers or are older and dont know how to use them. I wonder how many have are just lost in this alone with no hope of learning anything about the truth that really bums me out. I wish there was some way of reaching them.
I find it odd that nobody is talking about this in the media I guess there are too few of us to bother with a big story. Sad now when I get sad I have to wonder if it is normal or am I getting depressed. I guess there are a lot of things to be depressed about... bummer sorry.

Here's the thing about depression: you don't need to have "a lot of things to be depressed about". For some people it's a simple case of messed up brain chemistry. I used to get very annoyed when people asked me "What do you have to be depressed about?" Well, ignorance, for one thing.

Furthermore, I believe that some SSRI/SNRI meds aggravate a messed up brain chemistry.

I am two weeks Effexor free.. But even still today I get the brain zings. Does anyone know how long they last? I know its been eleven years I have been on the brain altering drug and it will take time...They are not constant as before, so I find some relief!! As far as overall feeling... I am very Proud of myself this has taken since August and I could not have done it without the support and ideas of all of you who emailed me!! Thanks to you for that! I feel as though I have a shorter fuse. So I am trying the counting thing so as not to blow up at my family or friends, any advice on the mood changes?

Since Aug is a very fast taper. Fish oil may help relaxation tapes hot baths quiet peaceful walks in nature take time for yourself to do whatever sooths and restores you. What pleases you may be completely different now that you are in withdrawal so make room for what you need.

I know you are completely right then I get in a wave of withdrawal and cannot see it so I have to do it all over again such a tricky thing thanks for the reminder.

Good advise.
When I am finished with all my withdrawals I will be a much more complete person. What really burns me now is I realize how this drug is and can be.
It has been a battle of withdrawals. I wonder how many people deal with this drug and work with children on a daily basis. I do and come in contact with alot of kids at the school. I think about how many people use this drug in our society and work with our kids. I am so lucky to have a strong family and friends bond to get through this. But, how many Doctors, surgeons, lawyers etc... do we have functioning daily in our society on this drug. Scary to think!!! One downside for the kids!!!I use to block out alot of what the kids would do.. I now hear them and I notice more. So they do not get away with as much. To this I can laugh and smile...

I just came across all these post and had one question..Why go off the drug? My doctor told me up front I will have to be on this for the rest of my life. I take 150mg daily. I've had wonderful results. I've actually even lost a lot of weight on the drug too. I also quit drinking alcohol. Everyone has different reactions and remember those who are considering this drug it could be a life changer for you too (in a good way). Most people that have negative experience troll the website and post their experiences. The positive experience rarely gets posted. Talk with multiple doctors before making a decision. Take all research into consideration not just the negative stuff on the internet.

They don't post their good results because that's what we all expect. When you first start a med, the doctor said it'll make you better, and it did, so why post anything? I felt just great for four years on Paxil; on the fifth year, its efficacy ceased and I felt like killing people. That's when I started posting, asking people if anyone else felt the way I did. Lots did.
Everybody's different, like you said.
Your last sentence is excellent advice.

That being said, I will say that I will NEVER recommend ANY SSRI/SNRI drug to family and anyone else who asks me.

Hey there Mike it is common knowledge by all us that have had horrid experiences with this med that the intial drug trials on these drug was corrupt and it never should have made it to market. You would find that information if you took the time to look at ALL the research it is also common knowledge by us mess up folk that sales are down and drug companies have hired people to put a follow these type of blogs to keep the information from getting to the people but like I said sales are down and they are going to keep going down for this reason. Many of us damaged to the point of no longer being employable are now trolling and telling the truth we don't have much else to lose and want to keep others from falling into the same traps we have. So the information is getting out expodentially and we tell two people and so on. At the same time all things are coming to a head cases are being hear in courts getting more publicity. It is taking what seems like forever but we will never stop and it will happen use of these type drugs will decrease more and more. I hope they would be taken off the market then I will stop telling people.
Why quit because they will stop working eventually may as well quit when it is easy before you get sick like me and so many others on here. I hope the damage they cause is not for ever but who knows. If you read the research you will find there has not been any studies on long term effects as the drug companies pay for all the studies and what do they care??? as long as they get the cash they are laughing.
So how do you know people damaged by these drugs trol these sites? Would you be one of those paid big pharma guys by chance?
Either way have a good day.

Mikepet,

In the beginning I too thought it was great. I fealt good and blocked out my old man dying of really bad cancer. He turned into a stringbean and really hurt bad (but never really complained).
So in the beginning for me I thought the drug was great. However it appears now from hindsite and blood tests when I went into the ER that my liver was paying the price. Now 7 months later and drug free my legs (calfs) and feet have lots of weird pain. Plus the withdrawal was fricking unbelievable.
Plus the Brain Zaps crap and the TEMPER problem.
So BE Advised.

Leg pain is common my legs hurt I had cysts in my liver liver pain ect still do 2 years off effexor. I could not think well enough to direct my own care you can find a lot more information Howdy at theeffexoractivist.org there are many posts on there about such issues. It states in the drugs official perscribing manual that liver problems can be caused by effexor I suggest you look it up. Memory problems including spelling are not very funny if you are the one that has it I have it too tho it is much improved it is still there. Sorry you are going thru all this Howdy try another site where they understand all these thing and don't think it is funny.

I weine'd myself off of this drug. Since taking it i have suffered memory loss and usually cannot end a sentence. I have lost my ability to comprehend information. I cannot get a job because i can't comprehend what people are asking me to do...especially when they speak to fast or throw too much at me at one time. While taking effexor xr i suffered with blurred vision. This was the only thing that went away when i got off the drug.

I FEEL EVERY ONES PAIN I HAVE BEEN ON THIS DRUG since the summer of 2004 along with pain meds after work related accident which resulted in multiple injuries, surgeries, a drastic change of life...I am just now trying for the second time to come off...the first time the doctor dropped my doses to quickly...the shakes, the confusion, the memory loss, the headaches, nervousness, fits of screaming, lack of sleep, increased pain in joints....went through this and more for days just to be brought back up to level myself off just to try again slowly...its only day two and i am experiencing the shakes, nervousness, pain, forgetfulness.... For years i have been searching for answers for the short term memory along with slurred speech and inability to get words out or forgetting what i was saying....Nobody will admit that this is from any medications so i guess we must all be hysterical and imagining everything...I am truly sorry for everything you all are feeling and knowing we are not alone might be a comfort for our sanity (whatever is left), but it doesnt help what we are feeling and the affects it has on all of our loved ones as well...God Bless all and i would be interested of any more updates or suggestions on how to get through this....

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Capricorn

Take things slowly and all will be well. However, you must resist a tendency to be perfectionist over things that don't really matter, otherwise you'll never finish the chores. If you're busy with Christmas preparations, you'll have to control a nagging feeling that you've got to compete with the way other people have done things in the past.
