Hello Everyone,
First time on this forum and hopefully someone will have an answer. I have been using the Fentanyl patch for about a year now. It has worked great and has kept my pain in check.
One really annoying side effect is I find myself sweating all of the time. And not just under the arms. It seems as if my head and torso gets soaked all the time. Needless to say it is quite irritation and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and found a solution.
I have an appointment with my Dr. later this month. Would like to go to see her informed about this. Thanks!

I have noticed the same thing. I sweat at different times for no apparent reason mostly around the head. It can be cool in the house and for no reason I start sweating.
cant help you with an answer but I am glad I am not alone. Otherwise, there was not excuse for my sweating.

I have the exact same problem, excessive sweating mostly all over my head and torso and even my arms and legs if anything is making them warm. I found it's worse after I get out of the shower, probably because the heat makes the opiate circulate in my system faster. As a result I have to get ready to go out hours earlier than normal so I have a chance to cool. As much as it's helped my pain, I just can't deal with it anymore. I can't enjoy my life and as a single woman dating, it is really embarassing.:)

Point is, you're not alone and I'm glad I'm not alone. If anyone has found a way to help it, please post!

there is too much of the drug in your bloodstream... dont you people even read the leaflets atleast a little bit before using the medication your doctor prescribes? if you start getting to hot your getting too much of the drug and are supposed to take the patch off...
also getting the patch hot can cause it to release a lot more of the drug than its meant to... possibly a lethal dose

I have the same problem, but i think, if you have them on for 72hrs, you maybe experiencing withdrawl, because i have been reading that some paitience need to change them every 48hrs. If they don't you maybe sweating because of withdrawl symptems.

Hey, you people who use this patch for pain - and I mean LEGIT pain - eat something afterwards when you start sweating. The sweats WILL go away! It's probably the dosing of the medication.

My husband was on the patches for a long time (until switching medications), and he sweated SO bad - but it wasn't like a sweat from doing anything too physical - he would just start sweating. So I would make him eat a small meal or drink some milk (something to fill the stomach up with)... and he would instantly STOP sweating!

Good luck, ya'll!!

All opiates make you sweat. I feel like I have been sweating my ass off for 3 years now. Beginning with addiction to oxy's and then to heroin. After that, treatment with methadone=same result. Now, after finishing a year on methadone, I'm on suboxone. Same thing. Its NOT an overdose, its a SIDE EFFECT. Just like constipation and all the other wonderful things that come along with opiate addiction.

I'm sorry, at the end I should have added "dependence" also. Not just addiction. I'm so use to referring to myself, and I didn't want to offend any pain management people.

fyi to everyone - I started taking Magnesium supplements after researching and finding that pain killers can "deplete" your system of them and cause all kinds of problems, sweating profusely being a big one. Key is to find a power/liquid supplement of an ionic form of Magnesiu Citrate - takes about 3-5 days (for me anyway) to notice a difference but it is dramatic and another wonderful improvement is that it has helped to regulate my bowels. No more constipation - no more sweating! Please give it a try - not very expensive but incredibly helpful!!!!

kari sehl are you sure it aint because you got a fix of the fentynl and just think "hope" "wise" it is the magnes. i tryed that also no help ! like they are saying it is a drug and you cant expect to feel normal you are going to have side effects and sweeting are one and i hate it ! its my lower back that sweets alot on fentyl patch ! i love the stuff and i hate the stuff and i would only wise it on my worse ennimies ! but only the worst !;) im 39 and i dont know what im going to do ! if im going to be on this the rest of my life or what ! dont matter i dont plan on liveing past 70 and thats pushing it ! but i do i realy realy realy do try to enjoy life because i know i wont be here long none of us will be ! just try to do good to yourself and otheres the best you can because trust me you will be judged sooner than you think ! and who knows it could happen tommrow ! FEAR GOD and confess your sins and start liveing a more senseable life ! apothis is coming rlm 218 peace

p.s. withdraws are the wrost thing in this sick world your not alone athoue i feel that way all the time and i cry alot to ! fentynl sucks but it helps ! give and take i guess if you push an object something has to happen ! and time goes so slow on the patch at least towrds the 3rd day a minute seems like an hour WOW how do i do it ?! god bless all of you bye

i will tell you this i been on this patch for over 2 years now ...and for you people if any that have been off of it and going throue hell from withdraws ! i think the fentynl patch has the longest withdraw systoms of any drug ! i lost 7 patches once and was off for over 2 weeks ! and in them 2 or 3 weeks i still felt withdraws ! so if you been off for this long i heard it only takes a little longer to start feeling better ...like about a month ! but the best way is to ween down the dosage then youll be ok but this can take over a year to get off ! doctors wont tell you this because they make money by getting you to use the patch they dont care about withdraws !!!!!!!!!! god forgive them ! thats all bye

Hey Robert m, I had the same problem at first with the patch- I was supposed to change it every 72 hours, but I noticed pretty quickly that it wouldn't last into the third day. I went back to talk to my doctor about it, and he admitted that a good majority of patients (at least half, or more than half) do need to change their patch every 2 days instead of every three days. Some patients do well on the 72hr change schedule (most docs will try to start you on the 3 day schedule just in case you respond well to it), but you're not alone because a lot of people (me included) found that the patch needed to be changed every 48 hours.. Talk to your doctor about it, and see what he thinks of switching to every 48 hours (Warning though- most insurance companies won't cover the extra 5 patches you'll need to change it every 2 days; they'll usually only cover 10 patches for one month, so be prepared to pay extra for the additional 5 patches depending on your insurance.)

I agree with the change, because had the same problem. My Dr. did the same thing for me and it works about 85% of the time. I have been on the patch for approximately 10 years.

been on this for years now- sweating seems to be a side effect. I don't sweat a lot, but more than I did before I was on this med. I have other friends @ my pain clinic & they also claim to sweat as a side effect. i reccomend drinking lots of water & using a powder to help control the dampness ( I use a liquid baby powder- i like it lots)

Most doctors aren't aware of the patch not working evenly for 3 days. The pain clinic is but no one has ever mentioned that it is possible to change them earlier. I have been under medicated until last year and problably would do better with one more increase. I weigh 100 lbs and can usually deal with 125 mcgs. I am not sure when I started the sweating but it got so bad I was going to ER every month for an IV. I moved and am haveing a hard time with doctors wanting to lower my dose.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Leo

If you ask someone to give you a hand today, don't be surprised if they make a mess of it. That's probably because their mind isn't on the job, but it might also be because your instructions aren't as clear as usual. So before you get angry, check that what you said made sense. Relations with someone older or more influential than you could also be blighted by confusion or doubt now.
