My boyfriend has been on Duragesic for 2 years following a serious injury to his neck in a car accident.

He already had a drinking problem and continued drinking while taking high doses of Duragesic.

He's had a terrible two years (and so have I...) but I'm glad to say that his new year's resolution is to stop drinking. He hasn't drunk at all for 10 days now but I'm wondering if this is too little too late.

I'd like to know what the real dangers are of mixing Duragesic with alcohol. The only information I've found so far is that alcohol increases the effects of the duragesic, and seeing that, despite the patches, he's in constant pain, I understand why he's found it so difficult to decide to stop drinking.

Lilly,
I would suggest to drink the mangosteen juice. It has Anti-neuralgic - Cox II inhibitor and reduce nerve pain (for example, back pain, joint pain, shoulder pain, etc).
It could also increase the effects of the prescription drugs while it eliminates the side effects of the drugs.

Do not sell the patchs to anyone. If your boyfriend decideds not to use them anylonger, open the packages and flush the patchs down the toilet. If you allow anyone to use this medicine other than your boyfriend, he will go to jail for a very long time and it will give the DEA one more reason to go after those of us that need this medicine to make it through each day.

As far as having a drink while using the patch, there is little evidence to show that an occasional drink will hurt him or anyone using fentanyl for pain relief. If he is drinking to excess, he will end up killing himself because the body cannot maintain resparation properly when using fentanyl and alcohol because both work against the pulmonary system.

Good luck and I hope he can get feeling better and titrate off of the pain meds someday.

Happy New Years! Hey Starman! I hope this winter cold is not finding you too blue or in more pain. I have had a rough holiday, better now, just the darn flu. I would run a fever and have to take the patch off and then wait until I was not feverish and then put it back on. BUT I am NOT complaining about that, it has still been the best decision to start the patch, I have a life again, I still have pain, but it is tolerable.
I have been busy the last week or so, had to take my little buddy, my kitty cat named 'Merlin' in for shots and to get 'fixed'. It needed to be done, but it's so barbaric! The poor thing misses 'them' and keeps looking for them, lol. He's my sweetie. He will curl up to me when I am in a lot of pain and keep me company.
I was reading thru some sites on the patch, I am serious, if I had not seen somebody getting some relief and good things from the patch (my guys here, Starman and Brian :), I would never had tried the Rx. I would have missed out on one of the first things in a long time to give relief from pain.
Does anyone think maybe all the other drugs went thru the 'bad drug' phase, i.e. vicodin, percocet,...too? be back soon, BrightStarLights

Hello..something good...a company is making a pill for the fentanyl, it will help a lot of people, because some feel the patch and lollipop are dangerous because of the delivery system of them, this will be better for them. It is more controlled and you can only get as much of the medicine as you take by mouth. I prefer the patch because it has helped so much, but this is a great start in another direction for this drug, at least I think so...what do you think?

If someone is on the Fentanyl Patches and drinks excessive amounts of Crown Royal a week could he die from this? My friend does this and he continues to do so.

Do not mix drugs with other oral pain killers, whether they are natural or not. Some substances inhibit the metabolism of drugs so drugs accumlate in the blood and can cause severe side effects. look here for adverse reaction with or without other drugs: www.adverse-drug-reaction.net

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Aries

Christmas Eve finds you happy and eager to get the most out of the day. You're in a rather sentimental mood, so if you've got time you'll relish the chance to watch a favourite film, especially if it means you've got to get out the hankies. A friend's kindness or sensitivity will delight you - and make you wonder how you can reciprocate.
