My mother is taking 160 mg Diovan dailey. Her Doctor recently
prescribed 10 mg of lexapro for Depression. She has now
become somewhat lethargic and is so weak in her legs that
she has problems getting out of her chair.
She is 86 years old. Since side effects for both drugs list
possible excessive tiredness, couuld the combination of the
two drugs be the culprit here? Anyone else having or had this
problem?

Hi Helen: Why do you think the side effects are from the dieuritic? I took Diovan without and had leg, muscle pain as well as cramps in my feet. Let me know since I am now taking Benicar with HCT with no side effects. Thanks.

My dad has been on Diovan HCT for about 2 years now. We didn't see much of a difference in him (except fatigue and dizziness). Then he starting taking Lexapro this summer and things really took a turn. He has lost a lot of his memory, his is slow, tired, weak, and sometimes just completely out of it (oblivious to all around him) Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anyone out there who was prescribed Diovan and then Lexapro? I think the Diovan causes the depression/anxiety (its listed as symptom) so the docs gave him Lexapro to relieve the depression/anxiety but now he is losing his mind! Is anyone out there going through the same thing? PLEASE HELP

Re: Marilyn's comments. I have had a similar experience. About a year ago my doctor prescribed 80 mg of Diovan. It worked marginally well, so early this year he increased the dosage to 160 mg. Within a very short period I noticed a marked increase in sleep problems, tiredness, loss of appetite, loss of sex drive and anxiety. I attributed the anxiety to stress from work, the doctor give me a month worth of samples of Lexapro to help with the anxiety and depression. On the combintation of both, within a week I was extremely tired all the time, couldn't mow my lawn without stopping several times to rest - scary tired. I stopped the Lexapro and halfed the Diovan on my own - spoke with the doctor since. Things dramatically improved following that change. Seems like the two drugs can be a pretty bad combination for some folks.

I am a 79 year old physician . While I was taking Diovan it worked well to bring my pressure down. Then I was given other medicines with the Diovan ,including Lipitor,Razadyne, and Cerefolin for a reduced B12 level. Three nights later I started having severe difficulty talking which has continued for the last almost 3 months. I feel like I have aged 10 years over that period of time and I have lost a significant amount of weight. I had two MRIs and they were reported as showing no evidence of a stroke. However, I have obviously had some severe problem effecting the talking part of my brain.

Anyone have a similar problem ?

I started on Lexapro about a year ago for anxiety and depression, and about 6 months ago I found out I have Polycystic Kidney disease. I am being treated with Diovan to control my blood pressure. I have noticed symptoms that continuously increase: decreased sex drive, inability to orgasm, extreme fatigue, weight gain, loss of interest in everyday things... the fatigue is mostly what bothers me, but the sexual side effects have been extreme. I plan to speak to my doctor about other options. Hope this helps anyone out there looking for reassurance.

I started Diovan late in 2008. I also take Paxil which is similar to Lexapro. Early this year i started to have moderate to severe pain in my right hip when seated upright at my desk or in the car. when i stand up after prolonged periods of sitting my hip joints ache. I've seen several doctors trying to find a reason for the pain. after exhaustive x-rays, MRI's and the like, they can find nothing. i was ready to see a chiropractor when i noticed additional symptons. i seem to need a nap every day (and i'm only 50). i am frequently light-headed. i suspected low blood pressure. it was 130/80 so that was not the reason for the ligh-headedness. all of my other bio-metrics are text book perfect. i found this forum today and i am immediately scheduling an appointment with my doctor.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Leo

A loved one is being rather tetchy today. It won't take much to get on their nerves, even if you think they're being grossly unfair about it. Try not to make the situation worse by being sarcastic or provocative. Instead, encourage them to tell you what's wrong but without raising their voice. Once you know what you've done to irritate them you can start to put it right.
