hi, i have been on diovan for six months or so . No side effects to speak off but blood pressure not controlled. I was thinking of taking diet pills to lose about 20 lbs to see if this will reduce my BP. Any views on diet pills and diovan

If Diovan is not controlling your blood pressure like you think it should, try taking it on an empty stomach. The presence of food decreases absorption by 40-50%, according to the drug info book Facts and Comparisons. 80mg wasn't doing anything for me at first, but after I read F&C, I started taking it early in the morning, about an hour before eating, and it now has my BP down better than anything ever has before.

Diet pills tend to raise your BP, but if it helps you lose significant weight, it might be better in the long run. Be aware that they tend to lose their effect after a month or so. Getting more exercise might be a better option. Walk a couple of miles daily if you can, and you might be surprised, not only in your BP, but just how much better overall you feel after a couple of weeks.

I have been taking Diovan for several months and have a persistent tickle in my throat which sometimes results into severe coughing. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?
I was on lisoprel & developed a horendous cough. Doc switched me to diovan, my throat feels as if I just took a drag from a cigar, my doc swears up & down it's not the diovan. The insert about the medication from the pharmacy clearly states a cough is a potential side effect.

I have been on Diovan for 3 years. Around 3 months ago I developed a tickle in the throat, followed by a sort of "something in the throat" feeling, which caused me to virtually feel like I had to swallow every 10 seconds, which didn't help. An ear nose and throat doctor suggested it might be the Diovan. I've been off the Diovan for around a week now and the symptom is just about completely gone. It was terrible.

I have been wondering why I have had so much plegm, and then I started with the cough. Any little thing in my throat would cause a coughing spasm. JS

I have been wondering why I have had so much plegm, starting shortly after I started taking Altace. Then I started with the tickle in my throat. Any little thing in my throat would cause a coughing spasm. I quit taking Altace. In about two weeks the cough has went away.

I was on lisinopril-hctz 10-12.5 for only 2 weeks when the cough began...as a teacher this isn't pleasant. Doc changed me to Diovan and I still have the cough. He says give it time...anyone know how much time?
Also, thanks for the 'empty stomach' info. I'll try that starting tomorrow.

I was on Mavik for high blood pressure and I developed a cough the first week. Dr changed to Diovan 80mg and said that would take care of the problem. That was 3weeks ago and my cough is 10 times worse. I also developed muscle aches and cramps. Reading everyones comments sure sounds like we're trading one problem for another.

After I posted my concern, I decided to stop taking Diovan, after a week my cough subsided and I was more alert and active getting out of bed in the morning, my aches and cramps have gone. I have been monitoring my blood pressure and it has been good. I will be seeing my Dr this week and I'm sure he'll give me you know what, but my quality of life has certainly been for the better.

I have been on Lisinopril for 13 yrs and had no problem until 4 yrs ago when the dose was doubled from 20 to 40 mg. Then came the coughing, on and off at first, now heavy and constant. I was switched to Diovan a week ago (including taking nothing for two days before beganing Diovan), and the cough subsided for 2 0r 3 days. The cough and fatigue etc. have now returned to about the same level. john mikula

I have been coughing constantly since taking Diovan! I am convinced that all drugs cure one thing but cause many others! I also have experienced fatigue, swollen ankles, and memory problems since taking Diovan.

Been taking Diovan HCT 160 for at least 6 mos. Pressure down most of the time, but have gained weight and experience stomach bloating which I have never had before on a regular basis. Even worse is a recurring sore throat that feels like razor blade cuts in the back of my throat, ear aches, and a cough. Anyone experiencing anything like this?

My mum was on Fosinopril for about 6 months, she's had a very chronic dry cough for abt 3 months, Dr. just changed her to Diovan, it's depressing to know that Diovan also causes cough.....but God is able to heal and he will heal my mum

I was on Lisinopril for 2 weeks and developed a dry cough. I googled it and discovered the aparently well know "Lisinoprilcough" and stopped taking it for a few days and my cough got a little better. My Dr put me on Valsartin last week and my cough seems to have got progressively worse. I am drinking water at regular intervals to try and stop it. How long does Lisinopril take to get out of the system? I plan to stay of Valsartin for a few days to see if the cough goes

Anyone taking anything that works? I guess if you did, you would'nt be on this site.
Your response is funny. I guess we wouldn't be here if we didn't have a problem.

I've been on Diovan for several months.

The coughing is awful. My wife can't sleep as I wake her all through the night.

I was on Lisinopril with the same results.

In addition to the coughing, I feel tired and always want to sleep.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Virgo

Someone is easily angered today, and you'll want to tiptoe around them at every opportunity. They might be on the defensive and imagine that you're getting at them all the time, or they could be quick to point the finger of blame straight at you. It won't be an easy day, but try not to get swept up in the emotional dramas that are swirling around you. They'll only exhaust you.
