Been on Diovan 80 mg BID for 8 months. I also take
atenolol 50 mg BID. BP is now normal, but feel fatigued 1/2 hr after taking dose. Also find Diovan expensive and wonder if there are any cheaper alternatives?

I have been on 80 mg Diovan for about two years. I have gained about 40 pounds. I have had pain in my calves which would begin all of a sudden, and travel up to my knee. Then my knee would pop! This would always happen when sitting. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced weight gain, leg cramps, and also swelling of the ankles and lower legs. My hands and fingers also swell some, and I have tingling in my hands. Any one else with similar problems with this?
I have been on 80 mg. of Diovan for 6 months and have very similar side effects as you have described. I have gained 20 lbs, swelling of face and hands, severe leg pain to the point of inability to walk for any length of time and tingling in my hands, especially in the morning. I am being described Diovan to help protect the kidneys because I have diabetes. I plan to go off this medicine this week and will discuss it with my Dr. next month when I am scheduled to see him. For me, the side effects do not seem to be worth it, especially when I can barely walk without pain. Hopefully, my Dr. can prescribe an alternative medicine or discontinue this type of medication altogether. I hope you talk to your Dr. as well and feel better soon.

I have been taking Diovan for 3 months now. First started with 80 mg daily, then BID and the morning one with 12.5 of HCT. Went to cardiologist and he said why take 2 pills when I can take one so he changed me to 160 mg/ 25 HCT and boyyyy, let me tell you...I have lost 20 pounds in a month and a half just walking for 30 minuts minimum every other day but legs sometimes seems to swell and have been experiencing a lot of calf and thigh pain like someone was just grabbing it really hard. I think it must be the Diovan 160mg/25 HCT (have been taking this dosage for almost 1 month now) for when I was takin the 80 mg BID, none of this happened. Any suggestions?

I recently began taking Diovan and noticed that I feel light headed and seems that my pulse has slowed down somewhat. I have to get on my bike and begin to exercise. Has anyone else felt this way?

I was taking diovan hct 320/50. had no problem untill I lost my job and insurance as well. I went about 1 month without. My doctor gave me a 1 month supply. It got bad. my readings were:
112/50. and at times lower. We cut it in half and it was not as bad but still low.So now I go in this monday the 13th to see what we can do. That is the only thing bad to me.

Yes I am having that problem only I have facial and head tingling as well as arm and hand tingling. I believe it is a side effect of the ARB's.
I am on 320 mg/25mg HCTZ. I had leg pain before taking it, but have been very tired, unable to multitask, have lots of hair falling out. I have been decreasing it myself. OH-YES. I has gained a lot of weight.

Hmmmm, interesting reading all the post. Every medication as some side effects, can be different for different people. I just started on Diovan. I don't like to take any medicines, but holistic methods didn't seem to bring my BP down to where I felt comfortable. I hope the weight gain problem in not major. I have worked too hard to get my weight down to where I want it. Time will tell. Will continue with the hoslistic methods also. Good luck to one and all.

That is what I was going through. I went to the doctor and my BP was to low and he lowered the dose so you may want to have your doc re-check it and tell him or her what is going on.

I have been on Diovan 80mg for several months. I was on Lisinopril and got the cough and was changed by my doc to Diovan. I have experienced some weight gain, 2-3 pounds overnight several times, with no real changes in what or how I eat. I have tingling in my fingers, achey pain in my arms, legs and knees. I have bloating and a lot of gas (embarrassing), also I have itching, mostly my head itches, but the rest of my body will itch to. I have not noticed any swelling in my legs or ankles, but I have had a little swelling in my hands. My blood pressure fluctuates up and down. I have never had any problems with my blood pressure until I started taking Cymbalta. I am off it now and on Effexor, but I believe the blood pressure thing started with the Cymbalta, that is one of the side effects of it. I stopped taking the Diovan 2 days ago and I can already tell a difference in how my legs and knees feel, because most of the aching was while I was walking. I believe the other side effects are much better to. I don't want to take any of it if I can do without it. I am monitoring my blood pressure at home until I see my doc again.

I stopped taking the 80 Diovan, and began taking the Omega Fish Oil Capsule (1000) and one adult strength baby aspirin daily. My bp is still some elevated, and I guess I should go back on the Diovan, but I really don't want to. Have any of you that have stopped taking the Diovan found something else to take that was not as expensive?

I was on Diovan HCT 80/12.5 for about 2 years, also 50Mg of Atenalol for the last 20 years and was fine, I am a Type 2 diabetic for last 10 years as well. But recently my BP started to go up, increased stress at work I'm sure. Anyway my Dr put me on an increased dose of Diovan HCT 160/12.5. The side effect is my feet swell up by the evening. I went back to 80/12.5 and was back to normal in 2 days, a few days later to verify I tried 160/12.5 again and my feet swelled up again. BTW: My feet are usually OK in the morning.
I looked it up and didn't see swelling of the legs as a possible side effect of Diovan though

I have been taking Diovan, and a separate HCT 12.5 feel extreme fatigued, having extreme shoulder pain, have has elbow pain and cort shots with no relief. The cost of Diovan has caused me to ask my dr. tomorrow to go off it, and get on something else unless he can get it cheaper for me. i didn't know it had side effects like joint pain. I also have complained of a heavy feeling in my legs every am. I have gained weight and have been on a low carb diet with no luck so far. Is it water weight or the Diovan itself? I had a fainting spell, and they did all kinds of heart tests and found nothing. I bet they didn't know this medicine can cause this too. My arm muscle cramps and so do my calves and toes and arches. I had no Idea until last night that Diovan can do all this, Is there a safe medicine for BP out there?
