I have taken this drug for over a year now and it does control my blood pressure but I have also increased excercise and altered lifestyle and diet so guess the two work together .
I am struggling to lose weight and need to lose a stone at least but continuing to try. Only side effects I have found are a much reduced resting pulse rate and also an absence of excitement - ie sometimes feel almost too calm as if I am a bit spaced out.
Suffered bad leg cramps with other BP medication.
Only real concern - is this safe longer term and is there any chance I could ever do without medication - all unmeasurable!

I just started taking Diovan after several failed medications. I was on Cozaar and suffered from very bad leg cramps. What medication caused your leg cramps?

I have been on 80 mg Diovan for about two years. I have gained about 40 pounds. I have had pain in my calves which would begin all of a sudden, and travel up to my knee. Then my knee would pop! This would always happen when sitting. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced weight gain, leg cramps, and also swelling of the ankles and lower legs. My hands and fingers also swell some, and I have tingling in my hands. Any one else with similar problems with this?

I am not having tingling, but I noticed my legs feel weak and ache. Not cramps, just like I have been exercising too much. After being on Diovan for a week this is the only side effect so far, but my side effects manifest after about four weeks. Has this happened to anyone else, that you are fine and then after a time side effects develop? What other meds were you on for hypertension and did you have side effects?

I also had another situation--I was not feeling well and went to the doctor. It was discovered that I had a goiter/growth on my thyroid gland. Short story--had a needle biopsy, and it was beign. After six weeks, the goiter had grown considerably, so had a thyroidectomy and was informed that I had thyroid cancer. With all this said, I had wondered if the edema and tingling was all coming from the thyroid (never hypo or hyper--blood work was always normal!). Anyway, I am currently taking Synthroid and the Diovan. I would like to wean myself off the Diovan and see what would happen with the edema to see if it would make a difference in only taking the Synthroid.

did the doctor say it was from the Diovan? How is your blood pressure and how long have you been taking Diovan? That would be helpful. Have you ever experienced a sore throat?

He didn't really say--thyroid problems cause edema, and from what I'm reading on different sites, Diovan may cause edema as well. I did not experience a sore throat with my thyroid issue.

Diovan caused me many side effects including a severe upper respiratory tract infection, low pelvic pain, cramps in feet and legs, back pain and wheezing. Went off med after about two months. Could not tolerate the side effects.

Yes, I have been on Diovan for about a year and have the same problems. However, I have short term memory problems too. Have you experienced memory loss?

My wife has been having problems with swelling in her ankles, lower legs and her stomach. All her blood tests and CT came out negative with respect to her kidneys, and liver functions. I am wondering if it is a Diovan side effect since she has been on it for a while now.

Yes I am having that problem only I have facial and head tingling as well as arm and hand tingling. I believe it is a side effect of the ARB's.

i have been on diovan for about 2 years, and about 2 weeks ago, i started to feel tingling in one or both of my hands...getting an mri in the next 2 weeks to rule out anything else, but i hope it is the effects of the diovan and nothing more!

i have been on diovan for about 2 years, and within the last month, i have woken up with hand (one or both) tingling. what are ARB's? i also seem to get the hand tingling when i feel cold (in a grocery store or in an air conditioned movie theater...) don't know if this is from the diovan or not, and if so, why is it happening after 2 years? stumped...

ARB's are angiotensin receptors - some of them are Micardis, Benicar, Cozaar,Diovan. They all haven the same side effects, The trick is finding the right one. My solution was to add a dieuritic, That has eliminated all side effects. Lower dose and 12.5 dieuritic. Talk to your doctor. Let me know.

My blood pressure tends to be higher in the morning. My doctors recently recommended I take Diovan in the evening before bedtime. I don't feel like I sleep as well and urinate several times during the night. In the morning, I feel more sluggish. Does anyone take Diovan in the evening?

My mom's dr just put her on diovan to protect her kidneys from all the other drugs she is on. Does anyone know of another drug that does the same thing as diovan is not on her preferred drug list.

I have the same symptoms except i have tingling in my feet. My hands swell considerably with a lot of pain in my hands and lower legs. I also take a water to help with the swelling.
