Dawn wrote: Hello, Last week I began experiencing symptoms of a yeast infection. I'm not on an antibiotic which is usually when I'd get one so I don't know what to do. I did Monistat for 3 days but haven't had much relief. Will it eventually go away on it's own? Thanks Hi Dawn, If I were you, I wouldn't count on it going away on it's own. Also, Morganna is right, an antibiotic will not help a yeast infection as it encourages the growth of the yeast fungus. She suggested douching with a yogurt solution or a weak dilution of hydrogen peroxide - I've tried these, they are pretty effective. However, I was prescribed another product that helped me tremendously. It's a concentration that is made to use as a douche called "Orithrush-D", it's made by Ecological Formulas in Concord, CA. I bought mine at Vitamin Shoppe ~$12. I know they offer it online, but I ordered mine through a local store. In order to use it, or to use a yogurt or hydrogen peroxide solution, you will also need to get ahold of a douche kit ~$15. Another thing that will probably help would be to toally avoid alcohol and any form of sugar or sugar substitute for a while. Both of those feed the yeast and will only exacerbate an already uncomfortable condition. I hope you find the relief you need!

HI I feel I need to update my condition. I have recently had a very positive upturn of events concerning my health, and contrary to what I have said before, I now believe natural is the way to go. Diet is the most essential part of the I have found, but the right diet is most important, I feel bee's diet is best. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/candidas... . This is the one that is working for me and easiest to follow. Good luck everyone and Good health !

it's been a couple of months since anyone wrote in this forum, so i hope somebody will read this. i have read all the post and i am experiencing the same symptoms. month after month i get the signs of a yeast infection except for the cottage cheese stuff. i am a breastfeeding mother and i also have a somewhat prolapsed bladder and uterus. my doctor retired and now i'm dealing with a new doc who odesn't know me at all. he did a wet smear and said "yeah that's yeast". but doesn't most healthy women of child bearing age have yeast? i looked up vaginitest (sorry i can't spell) and there are diferent causes. one of course is yeast, but another is hormonal like a low amount of estrogene. and since my uterus dropped before i was pregnant(at 23) thatr may indicte that my estrogen would be low because my abdominal muscles were weekened. and i am an active average weight person so it's not like i live a sendentary life so my abd muscles should not have been that week. i'm now 26 and when i had my baby my bladder droped too. what i'm trying to get at is that the "yeast infection" and the dropped uterus and bladder may have alot in common and that if this round of diflucan doesn't work i'm going to reguest a blood test to check my estrogen and other hormones. doctors need to try something new when the same treatments aren't working. so to all the other women who wrote in this forum thank you for sharing your stories and i hope my post was helpfull, even if it was a bit confusing.

I posted this on the other link that was about Fungal Sinus, but this applies to yeast as well. I after 4 years an finally on the road to recovery and its largely due to my change in diet. I follow the Diet and portocol written by BEE from the yahoo candida support group, there is a lot of information there and her diet makes the most sense, overall. Its working for me and I suggest you read her files. Good Luck and GOD BLESS

okay, so iwent through a third round of diflucan, and my baby's ped. prescribed some nystation ointment for her rash. i applied some of the ointment on my nipples a few times and it really helped. ofcourse i washed off the ointment before i breast feed. my laction consultant told me to add a cup of bleach to every load of laundry (colord bleach for colors) then a cup of white vinager during the rinse cycle to restore the ph. she also told me to cut out sugar. oh and either eat lots of yorgurt or take a suppliment with the same active cultures. it takes about 6-8 weeks for the yorgurt to help. lets see what else, don't reuse towels, use it once than wash it.(i know pretty basic, but i did have the habbit of reuseing my towel) so far so good, my symptoms hve cleard up but i'm not 100% sure that all the yeast is gone. and also trim the bush down there it helps stay dryer. good luck and thanks to everyone

You all should try getting the men in your life treated. Otherwise you're just passing it back and forth and making it stronger and more resistant to creams and pills.

I'm sorry to hear about that. It's true, antibiotics are usually very bad for you. I found some information online about yeast infections, and it looks like this oxypowder can help with the problem. From that I saw, it seems to be legitimate, and is also FDA approved. I hope this helps. www.candidablog.com/a-comprehensive-oxypowder...

I am also having trouble with recurrent yeast infections. They seem to go away after treatment with either diflucan or monistat however always return within a few days. I have racked my brain trying to figure out what could be the cause. The only thing I have been able to come up with is my frontload washing mashine. This problem started in January when I purchased the new set. They conserve water and do no rinse your clothes well which I believe could be causing the problem. Does anyone else have frontload washing machine that are causing problems?

My question is... how long after I'm done taking antibiotics should I wait before taking diflucan? I don't want to take it too soon because I'm allergic to the over-the-counter stuff; and my doctor only gave me 1 Diflucan. So... if it doesn't work because I took it too soon, then I have to call the doctor and wait til they call in another one.

I am no longer on these meds or any other meds. My doctor prescribed me diflucan and pessaries every time. And it is ruining my relationship. My symptoms are really bad burning with white discharge and a pulsing feeling. My doctor wants me to try a longer course of fluconazole. She is putting me on a 14 day course 100 mg daily, then a 6 month course 100 mg weekly. I am really scared that if this does'nt work, I won't have any other options to try :( I'd like to ask if there are any other women out there sufferring from this to post. Please! I'd really like to hear from you, about your experience with this and if you have any info that might help me and other women out there. Thank you for reading. Oh my gosh! I'm experiencing the EXACT same thing at you are! I went on the patch birth control about 3 yrs ago and started experiencing my first yeast infections. It was every month about a week and 1/2 before my period would start. So i went off of BC hormones.. but alas, yeast infections have been a monthly problem ever since! I've been treated with diflucan and have also self-treated with Monistat. NOTHING HELPS. This is awful :( I also take two daily tablets of acidophilus every morning to help but I'm not sure how much good its really doing. I just read a bunch of reviews about Rephresh balancing gel and it seems to be working for other people... I'm going to give it a whirl and hope to God that it works!::fingers crossed:: Let me know if you've found any solutions.. I'm going back to my gyn in December and will hopefully have a better handle on things.(I'm so embarrassed I've left this problem go unsolved for the past couple years --- I was just to nervous to get help!)

OMG I'm feeling the same way!!! I've had problems for years and they've been cured with a prescription in the past. A month and a half ago i took amoxacillin and i got a yeast infection....i've had it for almost TWO months now and it only goes away when i'm on my period. My doctor has tried me on 2 per day, 100mg of fluconazole for 7 days and although there is some relief it's STILL not going away. I'm getting REALLY upset with the whole situation - HELP!

NICE TO KNOW IM NOT ALONE. 14 DAYS OF FLUCONAZOLE 150MG DAILY IN CONJUNCTION WITH BORIC ACID VAGINAL SUPPOSITORIES IS WHAT IM CURRENTLY ON. THIS SEEMS TO BE WORKING BETTER THAN THE FLUCONAZOLE ALONE. I HAVE ALSO STARTED CULTURELLE, A PROBIOTIC 1 DAILY TO HELP REPLENISH NORMAL FLORA TO MY SYSTEM. THESE PROBIOTICS HELP TO REPLENISH HEALTHY NORMAL BACTERIA TO THE VAGINA, WHICH IN TURN EAT UP ALL THE NASTY YEAST. MENTION TO YOU DOCTOR, SEE WHAT THEY SAY.BORIC ACID IS SOLD OVER THE COUNTER AT HEALTH FOOD STORES.

I got a yeast infection during a dose of antibiotics for my sinus infection. I went to the Dr. and he prescribed a dose of Diflucan. Took that and 5 days later some of the burning has gone away, but i still have mild burning and itching. I tried the hydrogen peroxide diluted (1 teaspoon of HP to 1 cup of water) and that just gave me fire crotch. Tried the yogurt but that did the same. I have pretty much gone through all the home remedies for this and none of them work. I can not use the over the counter stuff as i am allergic to it. I went back to the Dr. and he gave me another prescription for Diflucan i ahve taken that and it did the trick. he told me that sometimes the yeast is super resilient and you need 1,2 or maybe 3 doses of Diflucan to completely clear up the infection. Also my advice to Justina, maybe you should get your boyfriend a dose of Diflucan as i had the same problem and it turned out that i had given my husband the infection and he kept giving it back to me. My husband had a yeast infection with no symptoms, so he may have it he just may not know it. Good luck

i have been in pain for the past 3 weeks strait. Doctors first thought i had UTI so they gave me anti-biotics and diflucin. went away for a few days and then came back to haunt me. I tried monistat 3 but that just made it worse and the cream burned bad. I do not have any itch just burning and pain in my groin area. I have been tested for STD's and came back clean. This is my first yeast infection. My husband is over seas and the doctor told me that having "vigarous sex for short periods of a time and then going sex free and then repeating" could easily cause this. I am now on my second round of diflucan with a refil that I can take if I dont feel it has gone away in a few days. The discharge is milky but has really minimized over the past week or so. Doctor said next step is to check for diabetes and anemia. i have no bumps, no swelling, no itching - but groin pain and burning. I NEED HELP i feel like its going to last forever

I got thrush for the first time in my life after going on the pill (Estelle, a generic form of Diane).
I tried Diflucan, and it made the symptoms worse. I then tried the 3 day course of Canesten cream (inserted vaginally) with excellent results, and stopped taking the pill promptly after.
Then a month later, 2 or 3 days before my first period after Estelle, i noticed i had thrush again. I took Diflucan, thinking that because it was a very mild case, and i wasn't taking the pill any more it should clear up with relative ease. By that night, the symptoms were noticeably worse, and today, three days later, seem to be worse again.
I'm going to try the Canesten again, and then hope like hell that the pill has stopped messing with my hormones and i don't get it again, because if i do i'm going to be so angry i swear i'll sue someone!

It's naturally occurring, so yeast cannot become resistant to it. Also, it's easy to insert using an applicator. Medications are overrated, as it is easy for yeast to grow resistant to them, but yogurt is amazing!
