I got a yeast infection in March after taking antibiotics. Bought the usual stuff, and it didn't work. Went on a course of Diflucan (one pill for three days), thought the infection was gone and it has recurred again. Since it was a weekend, went back to the drugstore and treated it with an over the counter medication, no luck. It's back again. Now I am back on Diflucan and today is my first day off, and it seems as if the infection is coming back. I am on Restasis (for chronic dry eye) and since this contains cyclosporine (in small amounts), I was wondering if that has something to do with it.

I was diagnoised two months ago with a yeast infection from my doctor. I had so many cultures done...Ruling out STD'S, etc. It came back positive for yeast. I was given diflucan, It didn't touch it. I did three weeks of Monistat 7 and still no luck. I am now taking another diflucan. My doctor doesn't seem to be helping much. This is my second yeast infection in my whole life and I am 40. I never remembered such a bad experience, The burning is terrible and lets not get started on the itching!

Yeast is something very much misunderstood by the Vast majority of the medical community.
Here is an interesting link on yeast and candida.
http://www.phototour.minneapolis.mn.us/candid...
If your yeast is resistant consider the fact that it may exist "systematically" you might have yeast overgrowth in the stomach and or intestines etc.
Change in diet may be nessecary, the environment may habe to looked into and a longer course of diflucan and possibly another antifungal might be nessecary.
Doctors are not happy about prescribing diflucan and often under-medicate because of this.
You might want to consider oral nystatin.
Good luck to you

I also have been sufferring from reccurrent vaginal candidiasis. I started suffering at the same time every month after starting a course of roaccutane/accutane for acne, the mercilon/mircette pill, and benzamycin gel (also for acne) 2 years ago! I am no longer on these meds or any other meds. My doctor prescribed me diflucan and pessaries every time. Although it helped, the yeast infections kept coming back month after month, worse and worse. It got to the point that they were so bad, the diflucan and pessaries did nothing. My period was the only thing that seemed to help alieviate the symptoms. But it would be back again the next month 13-14 days before my period (same time as LH hormone). I am really distressed! And it is ruining my relationship. My symptoms are really bad burning with white discharge and a pulsing feeling. My doctor wants me to try a longer course of fluconazole. She is putting me on a 14 day course 100 mg daily, then a 6 month course 100 mg weekly. I am really scared that if this does'nt work, I won't have any other options to try :(

I'd like to ask if there are any other women out there sufferring from this to post. Please! I'd really like to hear from you, about your experience with this and if you have any info that might help me and other women out there.

Thank you for reading.

Julia in addition to your drug therapy, I suggest you look at your diet, and stop alcohol for a period of time.

I am a breastfeeding mom of a 4 month old who contracted thrush pretty much at birth as a result (I believe) of I.V. antibiotics given during labor. Very early on, I too, developed a yeast infection which I still have, after almost 4 months. My son has been on two rounds of oral nystantin, two rounds of diflucan, as well as a topical miconizol cream for a yeast related diaper rash. I have used several topical creams-nystantin, as well as a mix of hydrocortisone, miconizol, and triple antibiotic ointment (recommended by a lactation consultant) In addition, I completed a two week round of diflucan, only to get the same symptoms about six days after completing my meds. My OB doctor prescribed another THREE week course of Diflucan, and told me to contact my son's pediatric doctor. His doctor wants to wait before getting him on more meds, but from what I've been told, it's important when breastfeeding for both mom and baby to be treated simultaneously. So I looked on the internet for info regarding this, and found several sites that recommended not only to NOT give this medication to an infant, but to NOT take this medication while breastfeeding. I really don't know what to do now. Should I even take the prescription? I've noticed that in the medical comunity there are many differing opinions on a lot of things. This is no help to the patient! If anybody out there has any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it! The yeast bacteria has gotten up into my milk ducts, and it is a very painful condition. If I wasn't so adament about breastfeeding, I would have given up a long time ago!

I have a yeast infection that doesn't seem to want to go away- I did the 1 day monistat ovule and it seemed to go away but came back 2 days later- I took 3 diflucan's and did a 3 day OTC Monistat- no avail. I am now on terazol 7 prescribed by the doc and if it doesn't go away he wants me to come back to see him. BUT for those who say they get a recurring infection- have you considered your sex partner? This happened to me 10 years ago. until he was treated I got one every month- and Dr's are in denial about men and YI's so find one who will treat yours. In my case now it's not possible because I haven't had sex- I douched like an idiot and started this whole mess. I have never had a problem getting rid of one before! I do remember one time - 10 years ago when i thought I woudl become immune to the OTC cream that the only thing that seemed to work was gyne-lotrimin (Clotrimazole) but I had to do the 3 day twice in a row. has anyone else had experience with diflucan NOT working? I should mention- I have no more itch- just internal burning- so I'm guessing the diflucan did SOMETHING. AND I'm very healthy- why isn't the thing just going away on it's own???

Kim, I've been fighting candida overgrowth for two years, like you the thrush (candida in the mouth and throat was awful! The ONLY way to fix this is getting the good bacteria under control, you are at an advanced stage that is why your having a bad time.

I discovered the product "ThreeLac" its all natural and with a seriouse candida diet, what was making my life miserable for over two years, and being on the candida diet and threelac for about 6 weeks, I literally woke up and my Candida (Thrush) was totally gone from my mouth and throat, and I'm sure from my gut as well.

Now the hard part is the Diet, but its imparative not to feed the candida!
But if you stay on the diet, it will get rid of it, the threelac doesn't allw the candida to come back.

If you still need help here's my e-mail, gdrole@yahoo.com, I am dying to share this with other sufferes of Candida. and yeast infections. I have a great diet, but it's very restrictive, but it works and with the ThreeLac I believe you wipe this yeast infection out, and come out with a healthier intestinal life. I plan on taking ThreeLac the rest of my life. You can do a search on ThreeLac and do your own research, it's all over the place!

Truely hope this helps, and contact me if you'd like my diet.

Greg you sound like you have a monetary investment in threelac, lol. I have tried this and its very expensive and isn't strong enough for many people, it didn't help me much at all. Its might be worth a try but threelac sellers are responsible for much of the misinformation on the net about yeast/fungus conditions, don't be fooled

In my opinion, Diflucan will not help candida at all, and will only lead to bad side effects. Have you tried OxyPowder or cleansing to get rid of candida? I suggesting reading some articles in this candida blog: http://www.candidablog.com to see what works and what doesn't.

Sporanox is a very strong anti-fungal and it kills more strains of fungus, but it has its side effects so I would try diflucan or the milder ones before you decide to use it.
I am not against probiotics at all, there are many kinds and eating watermelon seeds and yogurt is good.
Trust me I have tried all the "natural cures", does not work , only consider it with diet and drug therapy, Oral Nystatin is actually the safest antifungal.
don't be fooled and do not waste your money.

Well diflucan didn't get rid of it whereas Sporonox did and I would recommend it to anyone who has persistent thrush/candida.

I was getting horrible yeast infections every month, the monistat didn't seem to help much.My doctor prescribed Nystantin and that seemed to make it worse.I then came across Threelac while looking for help on the internet.I started it about 5 months ago,and have not had a yeast infection since.I would suggest at least trying it for a couple of months,it can't hurt and it is worth the try.

I really do not trust any company who thinks they have some monopoly over the probiotic market, and since ThreeLac is basically a Pyramid type company with many people selling it for a profit , its even fishier. ITs hard for me to believe anyone who says Nystatin made it worse, perhaps it didn't work for you but I don't buy the "made it worse" thing. Nystatin has been spoken about by many doctors and patients and its really not possible it "made you worse"
There are many companies who make probiotics and at a fairer pricer, one of which I am taking and is working pretty well and its a lot cheaper than threelac. I will bet that the people who are on this thread raving about threelac are selling it as well.

Hello,
Last week I began experiencing symptoms of a yeast infection. I'm not on an antibiotic which is usually when I'd get one so I don't know what to do. I did Monistat for 3 days but haven't had much relief. Will it eventually go away on it's own?

Thanks

Dawn , an antibiotic is the worst thing you can do for any yeast infection, yeast is a fungus not a bacteria.
If its isolated in one area you could try to douche with plain unsweetened yogurt, or DILUTED Hydrogen peroxide.( do some searches for natural cures on Curezone.
Since you mention "usually" I am guessing you get them often and if you do, you might benefit from dietary and lifestyle changes and well as a probiotic, I mentioned Jarrow because I use that one and its about 17 USD. compared to 50$ for the threelac. Its working well for me, and you should avoid sugars and alcohol etc.
Almost everyone benefits from added fiber in thier diet because that helps to detox your whole body, get some exercise and light therapy is good as well, you can choose to wear a strong sunblock but UV rays kill everything bad and boosts your immune system.
Good luck.
