Just had my thyroid removed. Any advice?
Is drinking beer ok?

I love this site. Had the radioactive iodine in 97 and every year have endured fluctuating TSH levels (dependent upon the stress in my life). I remember feeling somewhat "good" at 137 mcg. but my doc lowered my dose as my TSH was as the lower limits of normal. I begged her not to. Just had my 6 mos. TSH level checked and was informed I once again am hypo. Doc wanted to increase me to 150 mcg (now on 100 mcg). After reading these posts, I called office and asked if we could do a trial of cytomel. Believe it or not, she said yes and would recheck in one month. I sure do hope the Cytomel works. I fight "tired" constantly, have gained 30 lbs in the past year and my skin is VERY dry. Will keep everyone posted of my results.(She is starting me on Cytomel 25mg. daily - but I broke it in half and took my first half this a.m.. Already I feel that the "brain fog" is lifting.) I had rather start out with a low dose and work up if I have to rather than experience and adverse side effect, i.e. rapid heart rate.

I am the mother of a precious daughter who has lived through so much pain,depresson,extreme fatigue,extreme weight gain, and is loosing her hope daily. She has been battling the roller coaster ride with thyroid disease for the last 8 years (she was 22 when it started) after birth of first child. Had ablation in Dec.2002 and things went from bad to worse. Got pregnant 6 weeks after radioactive iodine but did not know for 3 1/2 months. Long story short she also has fibromyalgia and her complete ANA panel came back positive. We thought she might have LUpus (still not sure she doesn't) but we think ALL OF HER PROBLEMS ARE FROM THE THYROID NOW AFTER READING THE THYROID SOLUTION BY DR AREM RIDHA. A MUST READ BOOK FOR ANYONE SUFFERING FROM THIS HORRIBLE AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE. We had more antibody tests done yesterday July 22 and go back to the doc on July 29. We are going to INSIST ON THE ADDITION OF T3 AFTER READING THE BOOK AND ME FINDING THIS SITE. GOD BLESS EVERYONE OF YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK. SO MUCH OF WHAT I HAVE READ IS A MIRROR OF THE LAST 8 YEARS OF HER LIFE. People do not realize the SEVERE PAIN IN MUSCLES AND JOINTS, EMOTIONAL BRAIN FOG, AND DEBILITATING FATIGUE ASSOICIATED WITH OUT OF WHACK THYROID TOTALS. I CANNOT BELIEVE HER DOCTOR NEVER MENTIONED T3. I TRULY BELIEVE ALL THESE YEARS OF SUFFERING AND LOOSING SPECIAL TIME WITH HER 2 BOYS AND LOVING HUSBAND COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF SHE HAD KNOWN ABOUT THE T4/T3 PROTOCOL. MY QUESTION IS THIS? SHE KNOW WEIGHS 295 AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE CYTOMEL AND ITS EFFECT ON HER HEART. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT IS THIS OVERWEIGHT,TAKING THE COMBO, AND HAVING HEART PALPITATIONS OR HEART PROBLEMS? I would hate to think that the very thing T3 that could help her feel like she has her life back end up taking her life. I AM SORRY I TALKED SO MUCH. WE NEED HELP!!! I NEED HELP TO HELP HER. SHE IS SOOOO SICKKK!!! THANK YOU KINDLY IN ADVANCE!!!
