All the posts are very informative. I finally got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and went to a Naturapathic physician. she is amazing! She actually listened to my symptoms and started me on t3 in addition to my levoxyl. She also diagnosed me with a wheat allergy. I am feeling so much better now. I havent felt this good in 6 years. I have a 3 strikes and your out rule with doctors. If you ask them a question about your health and they do not address the question i give them three chances to listen(in one appt) if they do not respond they are not truly listening. Doctors aren't one size fit all, it takes good chemistry with relationships and good "chemistry with doctors. good luck to all of you in your quest for answers!!!

I had a TT in November...My levels were always on the low end of normal and I felt pretty good...lats results showed all levels T3/T4/TSH all on the very high end of normal and I feel like crap...tired, moody...no energy..I have been on 100 mcg Synthroid for last 3 months and my endo just added 5 mcg of Cytomel. I started that a week ago and do feel better during the day but hit a brick wall in late afternoon..Should I ask my doctor to increase the Cytomel to 2 times a day 10 mcg or decreas my Synthroid...I know this an uphill battle...I just want to feel better!!

Thank you, John. It has been a frustrating time. I am not "overweight" I wear a six 6/8---but I have gained 10 pounds and was a size 4/6 last summer. I am not trying to lose weight- I just don't want to gain more because of an undiagnosed thyroid disorder. I recently suffered a miscarriage, as well. I just can't get anyone to understand that I know it's my thyroid. It's frustrating because I don't even have a thyroid---you would think that they would be more open to my health issues.
I had the same issue and I am afraid because I tried Armour and my calfs hurt something fearse but I think this cytomel will help just nerves I went to a plastic surgeon who is working with me completely to find something that works.

Hello. I just found your site and wanted you all to know I am set for surgery tomorrow for a total thyroidectomy for an obstructive 7 cm. goiter. I am worried about the correct dosage of T4 after surgery and if I should wait to see if T3 should be added. How do you know other than not feeling right. If all your levels fall within normal range and you still don't feel right, what do you do if your doctor is one of those who go by "normal" test results and not by how you feel. I've run into this problem before while trying to supress the enlargement of the goiter and was so frustrated. The only doc I found who really listened to me is not on my current ins. plan. Any advise whould be appreciated.

Happy Mom, I too had a total thyroidectomy 10 years ago. I have done fine with Synthroid (NOT generic) although my dose has been tweaked (low of 150 mcg to high and current dose of 250 mcg over the years.) I have often wondered about the benefits of supplementing with a t-3 replacement but have to say that Synthroid seems to be enough for me. Be very careful about generics as they have caused SUBSTANTIAL issues for me. Try the Synthroid first and if you feel off, ask for a blood panel for free t-3 and t-4 in addition to TSH.

Hi, found your site today and am glad. I have been having fluctuating thyroid issues (hypothyroidism) for the past several months. Was on Armour. Learned they reformulated it, which caused the problems. Saw another doctor and Switched to Nature Throid and felt better, but not quite the way I want to. Talked to the first doctor, today, who suggests better control with 88 mg Levothroid once a day and 5 mg Cytomel three times a day. I'd be interested in knowing how anyone else has done with such a switch.
