I have been prescribed Lisinopril as a replacement for Lorartan (Cozaar). Is Lisinopril the same as Lorartan?

As I felt Cozaar quite expensive in Dubai (where I work) I purchased it from India. Cipla sells that in market for cheaper price (please note. It not ECONOMIC. It's CHEAP)Brand Name: COSART. But after taking it for all these days, my B.P. always stay above 160/110. I decided to go back for Cozar. What 's the use of saving money while loosing health???

Merck's Cozaar patent expires April 2010.
They may get a 6 month extension on that.

Just noticed your post on one of the possible side effects you had with HYZAAR (Tinnitus)... I have been this RX 100-25mg for 2 years.

Last January I began having hearing symptoms, which I diagnosed finally as (TINNITUS) after no on else could hear the 'buzzing' sounds LOL...However, it is nowhere near 'laughable'.

Caused DAILY SLEEPNESS nights for a YEAR ! Tried everything, earplugs, irrigation, white noise, checking out the entire house for possible sources of AMBIENT noises...a REAL NUISANCE as you can imagine.

Then I decided to talk to my Dr a few weeks ago with the suspicion that HYZAAR could be the cause of TINNITUS. My concern that the HYZAAR was the cause..he said 'probably' not so, since I've been taking it for 2 years now. "Could be hearing loss...get a hearing test." (which I will not do based on my suspicion it may be the HYAZZR)

After coming across and reading your POST I definitely will pursue another RX. Thanks for substantiating my fears/conclusion on this possible TINNITUS effect possibilty re: HYZAAR.

Cozaar is just simply the best ARB in the market right now. My relatives are on it..with a piece of mind...

Losartan is very good in lowering high b/p; with no serious side-effects to concern & of course, at an affordable price, in my area, at least!
Previously was on other ARB which was not working at all.

I have genetic hypertension and have had since I was 18 (25 years now). I've been on Cozaar (for maybe 5 years), then moved to Hyzaar (for another 4 or 5 years now). It is amazing. The earlier ACE inhibitors I was on caused dizziness and cough - but were better than a stroke from hypertension. This medication is amazing. NO side effects. Sure - thinning hair could be blamed on this, but I've not experienced it. I do take Propecia and haven't experienced any loss of hair since. Hyzaar 100/25 is a wonder drug in my opinion.
I encourage everyone who needs it to try it and give it a reasonable adjustment period. I'm 44, full head of hair and consistent 120/80 for 10 years now.

hopefully will go generic. That is if the current drug company doesn't slip a bit of money to the new generic company to postpone their release. That way both make higher profits at guess who's expense??? yep like always. FDA turns their head and we get slapped higher costs. The only research is just how high can they go.

I have also had hair loss since being on Cozaar for three years. My Dr. told me I cannot get off it and there is nothing else to try.

Any doctor who tells you that there's no alternative to Cozaar needs to explain why he/she is saying that. Cozaar is but one member of but one drug class. There are other drugs in the class, and there are other classes of drugs. Make sure you are told why your doc feels that no other drug or drug class can be used.

Based on the tentative approvals at the FDA I would expect late 2010 a generic version of losartan will be on the market in the US

Lisinopril is different chemical drug than losartan but is the same drug class ACe inhibitors, meaning it has a similar way of effecting the human body

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Cancer

With the tender Moon waxing in your sign, you're in a romantic mood. This is great if you're with your beloved, whom you trust implicitly. You can have a wonderful time together and the rest of the world will just melt away. Try to be a little more realistic if you're dealing with money matters because there's a strong chance that someone is trying to manipulate you, or part you from what's rightfully yours. Of course, you'd never do something so devious...
