Does anyone know when cozaar/losartan will be released in a generic form? It has worked well for me, but it very expensive for those of us who don't have insurance.

Merck's patent doesn't expire until April 2010.

Cozaar is a fairly new medication and sometimes it takes up to 8 years for the patent to expire and allow a generic form to be available. Hopefully soon though, but I haven't seen it in my Pharmacist's Newsletter! Good luck.

Lers all set a date to go off all these got us by the ass medicines, but it would take drastic changes in our diets and exercise routine. Wouldn't it be so worth it though if we weren't slaves to the drug companies!!!!! From everything I have read type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure in many cases can be managed without drugs, go figure that...

I wish to know the answer as I have the same comment. Has anyone got any noticeable side effect after consuming it

Shortly after I started taking Cozaar, my hair begane to thin quite noticeably. Now, I am wearing a hair piece which is quite expensive. I may have to go on to wigs. I would like to know whether there are other drugs that could be substituted. GOt any candidates?

I've been on Cozaar for eight years and it's worked well, with no side effects. But it seems like it's time for it to go generic. Our drug supplier is raising the price and lowering it for generics, so I'm hoping it will be soon.

Many side affects, Bert. Increased general body pain, weakness, tinnitus, wierd feeling in chest. After ceasing use, symptoms disappeared.

I've been taking Cozaar now for something like eleven years, I believe it was just after it came on the market. i had developed a severe cough that turned out to be a side-effect of Vasotec (an ACE inhibitor). Cozaar has eliminated the cough, and the action of the ARBs (angiotensin receptor blocker) are similar to the ACEIs.

My understanding is Cozaar is one of the first ARBs to become generic, given the problems many people have with ACEIs (severe cough being a ~10% side effect), a generic ARB can't happen any too soon!

You know that the profits from these medicines go to the owners, not the scientists who invent them. The generic prices would be sufficient to give the same living to the scientists, without robbing the sick to fatten the owners.

People, it's long past time to get the money grubbers out of the medical business and give it back to doctors and scientists!!!

I am nearly 65. Have been on Cozaar (Losartan) for three years. Beginning to have thinning and some hair loss. Can't say it's related to Cozaar or just old age.

Went to the cardioligist today. He told me cozaar is going generic next month. Hope he is right. I have been on it for 7 yrs. It is the only b/p med. i can take without awful side effects. The only downside i find with cozaar is the price.

I have taken Cozaar for about 3 years and I have noticed my hair thinning. But other than that, it's worked well for me. I can't wait until it does go generic. My Dr says maybe in a few months.
