I have been on 6mg a day since oct. o8,the only side effect I experienced was lack of energy and being tired all the time. I started having bad pains in my stomach, headach, swollen stomach, backach, and dizziness.I called the cumadin clinic and was told they just dispensed the medication, and I should go to the emergency room. Once there
I told the doctor about the side effects and he did not seem concerned nor did he think that cumadin was to blame. Well after several tests including cat scan he sent me home saying that he could not find anything. I thought I was going crazy. Are all these things I am feeling all in my head? Is anyone out there experiencing the same symptoms, and what can I do about them.

I have been on Coumadin a short time (1month) and have found I am exhausted after even a short run (2miles). I have also put on almost 15lbs since getting out of the hospital. The only variable that is different is the medication. HAs anyone else found they are gaining weight at an alarming rate on this medication?
Massive weight gain, tiredness, black and blue all over and the list goes on....I too went off as above did and it's been almost 2 weeks....I haven't felt this good in soooo long. I do have increased anxiety wondering if at any moment I will drop because of another DVT/embolism, but at this point I'm again with above comment...I'm only 43.

I have been on Coumadin for 6 wks. I asked my Dr. if the side effects would include tiredness and she said no. It is frustrating to know that several are describing the same effects that I am experiencing. I am 45 and have a genetic blood disorder. I have been told I will have to be on this med forever.. very scary... Today my Pt / INR in 2 wks went from 1.4 / to now 10.6 - it is crazy...

Hi Tired One,
Glad to hear I'm not alone,
Have you any follow up for us since your last paot?
NONE. After only reaching the therapudic range once or twice in the 2+ years I was on both...I stopped. Now I spend every day thinking every chest, arm, leg, etc. pain is either a DVT or another embolism. I feel like a new person though as far as loosing all the side effects related. Still not sure what to do and probobly never will be.

My partner is on warfarin, has been for six years. He is a healthy 44 year old male who had a stroke at 38, he races motorbikes (endurance) road racing, and loves live. We have one small set back that occurs, as at present, his INR randomly dangerously increases currently it is 25 with a theraputic range of 2.5 - 3. Scaring the first sings or lethargy, and black eyes, he is currently sleeping on the settee, can stand light and feels everthing is an effort. The hospital have said "come back and see us Monday" today is Thursday. He is at this time more at risk of a brain haemorrage causing him more damage than his original stroke every did. This is the 5th time in a year that this has occured, he has been turned down for self testing because the local authoriity wont pay. Advice anyone, im desperate

Doctors say fatigue is not a side effect and that muscle pain is not a side effect. However, all of the literature I was given at the hospital and with my Coumadin prescription says both are side effects. I am exhausted all the time. All I can do is work, rest and sleep. I have unbearable muscle pain in my neck shoulders and back. Also I have pain in my breastbone. It is actually sore to the touch. I am most likely going to file for disability. The only thing that helps is rest. I spoke to an attorney today. I am 58 years old and would probably be on Social Security in four years anyway.
Hope you all feel better

I'm recovering from a PE and DVT on 10mg of Coumadin daily. I'm only 20 years-old and relatively healthy (besides the recent birth-control relate clot obviously), so I have no reason to be as tired as I am since starting this medication 3 wks ago. I am sleeping upwards of an additional 5 hrs a day on top of my 8 hrs of daily sleep. Whoever approved Coumadin as having no side effects is so full of crud it's almost laughable.

After several doctors told me that there is no differance between name brand cumadin and generic.
This is wrong. I was than told that the differance is the binders. I am experiancing terrible stomach pains. went to the emergancy room and was told that I came up positive for blood in my stool. I am so frustrated that health care profesionals beleive there is no diffarance. I had a upper g.i. done and now they are going to do a colon check. They will not listen to me nor will they even bother to look up the side effects. My mistake was telling my dr. that I had
done research.Told her what I had learned reg: cumadin and she actually told me that there is no differance. Because of that I have been walking around with stomach problems. Some dr's
said that there is no !!!!!! side effects. Its scary to know that Because it is such a dangerous
drug that even the dr.s dont know about the side effects. I believe that they should be made aware. It is virtually impossible to get any kind of surgery, because of the cumadin. If they would listen to what I am saying they could eliminate
all these expensive tests. Either they are so full of themselves and think they know every thing. Why should they care enough?

I'm 36 -recovering from Bilateral PE(both Lungs)and DVT(right leg), dr's think that I got them from Birth Control. In the hospital I had shots of Lovenox and took different dosages of Warfarin. I'm on 5mg of Warfarin a day since being in the hospital from July 11-15th, 2009. I have been tired/chilled all of the time. My right foot and right hand are coldest most of the time and I wear sweaters more now than ever before. I have taken many naps after work for hours. I have been tired after doing little to nothing. I sleep when my body tells me I need a nap or just to relax. I sit at a desk all day and I have to get up every hour and walk around per Dr. request. I have always been on the go and stay up late. I was finally able to stay up past midnight in September for the first time since July. These forums are very imformative and I have learned a lot from them. Good Luck to you Tobi. I hope to be off of this crazy medicine in January.

I am going to an ortho on Friday to document back and breast bone pain for back up when filing for disability. I have been so tired and in so much pain today I just could have cried all day. I wish I could say I will be off the coumadin soon but this is my third occurance with blood clots of some nature. I am what they call a lifer. Good luck to everyone and it's good to know I'm not alone.

I have been taking a multivitamin with Iron in it and no Vitamin K, since August, not sure it really is helping as I still am tired all of the time. I don't eat a lot of Vitamin K foods so my ProTime test goes good. I only eat one salad a week.:-( I drink 60 to 80 oz.s of water a day. So I am doing as much as I can to avoid being on this crazy medicine longer than needed or to be as tired as I feel sometimes. I also am working out one day a week because that is all I can handle right now.

Last night my right hand was cold like I stuck it in a bucket of ice water and my left hand was normal. My right foot was cold as well.(i had thermal socks, sweatshirt, sweatpants on and still cold) It is just crazy what this medicine is doing. I used to be warm all of the time. Now my blood is thinner.:-( I keep a calendar journal of what is different every day if out of the ordinary. This helps when the Dr asks how long something has been going on.

All of us have different reasons why we are on this medicine and we all pretty much have the same side effects. I go for my next Protime on 10-9-09 It has been a month since my last one. I keep praying that all will be good again and won't have to do it for another month.

I was hospitalized on Labor Day weekend with 3 major PEs. I have been taking 16 mg Coumadin nightly and man oh man, do I have side effects. I know this drug is keeping my blood thin - basically keeping me alive! But I am constantly cold, exhausted beyond all norms ( I could fall asleep on the toilet ) and I have to clean out my bathroom tub drain weekly now. I am losing so much hair from this. I recently started getting headaches too. Never had a problem with this in the past. They call Coumadin "rat poison" for a reason. Too bad it's my lifeline.

Wow - first time I have read such scary comments. I have been on coumadin for the last 2 years. I feel cold - moreso now than ever but this is the only thing I get wrong. I exercise 5 times a week and this actually helps me to fight depression, keeps me in a good mood and gives me a lot of energy. The only annoying thing is that my INR keeps jumping. I found that olive oil affects it too - and I previously thought only green veggies. I still continue eating greens though regularly - maybe this is the reason the INR jumps. But I really wish they developed some other drug - this one is just very annoying. I have never had so many blood tests in my entire life.

I'm thankful that I found this. I was starting to think that maybe I was depressed or something because i have never felt so lethargic and had the ability to fall asleep in 5 mins almost in mid sentence. I even started exercising to try to combat it but it does nothing. Someone mentioned Ritalin, is that a normal drug to fight these symptoms? I'm hoping not to be on Coumadin much more than 3 more months. Thanks everyone for sharing!

After reading many of these posts and seeing a few that appear to be from DOs or MDs I think its worth pointing out that your symptoms are REAL. Doctors practice medicine, practice being the point of focus here. I'm not saying that you should do your own thing because Doctors do know way more about how a body can work than us, but Doctors are only trying to understand more and more every day (at least you are not being treated with a good old fashioned blood letting). After reading this forum and knowing how I used to feel before I had to go on Coumadin (the only drug I'm on)it makes me sick to hear a Doctor say that tiredness is not a symptom. I can tell you is most certainly is.

Scorpio

You're feeling conciliatory and compassionate today, and you're ready to bury the hatchet if you've been at odds with someone recently. You may have to make the first move, and risk getting a brush off, but you'll consider that a small price to pay if it means you're able to restore the peace. The relief you feel will tell you how much this has been preying on your mind.
