I was in the ER due to chest pains and shorntess of breath. After being whisked away on the "magic carpet" of cardiac care, and dressed in the hospitals finest gown, IV and cardiac leads, the next standard of business, as I was informed, was a dose of metoprolol tartrate.

I had to ask if I REALLY needed a beta blocker, and if I did, I could hardly swallow MT when Coreg has so much data behind it. In terms of evidence based medicine - hands down, Coreg wins.

It's so unfortunate for the patient that managed care organizations issue formularies that are more concerned with cost savings, than saving lives and improving quality of life.

At the end of my stay, it was determined that I did not have need for the beta blocker, per the results of a nuclear stress test.

The bottom line is this, a well informed patient is sometimes not well regarded by the healthcare providers, but that's the patient that will most likely receive the best of care.

Doctors WANT to prescribe what's best, but the risk associated to his/her "business" often prohibits best practices.

Sara, please get off these boards. You're obviously 14 or so. Why are you trolling a board regarding cardiac issues?

Buh-bye, Sara. Reported.
