Coreg is a great drug, but very expensive especially for us that have no insurance. This could only be a blessing.

I have no insurance but my doctor has prescribed coreg to manage my blood pressures. I would like to know if there are any programs that I could apply for so that I may get the coreg at a discount or perhaps the generic version. So far my pharmacist has not offered me the generic version.

If you are expierencing $ issues with coreg, ask your doctor about Maxzide-25mg tablets (Triamterene/HCTZ37). This is also a very good and well seasoned blood pressure medicine that may suit you and your bank account better. |

If supposedly there is a generic for coreg (Carvedilol) why isn't it available. Coreg is a very expensive drug and I am permanately disabled and I am on medicard complete and I run into a donut hole, where I have to pay for my medicine completely and I am on about 10-12 different medications and I can not afford to pay the Brand name prices. Is the generic available somewhere?
PLEASE HELP. |

I have been on Coreg for about four years and I am still waiting for my pharmacy to offer the generic version. Does anyone know when it will become widely available?

SEE TOPIX.NET FOR LATEST INFO ON GENERIC EQUIVALENT. THIS INFO DATED 2/23/07 BEST OF LUCK |

FYI-the patent for Coreg expired in March 2007. We've had the unhappy experience of the MediCare "donut hole" and even passed through it this last year. Hopefully, some relief should come this year.

ARE YOU KIDDING? If the doctor has prescribed Coreg the patient is already on a diuretic (water pill)and that was not effective. Chances this patient has heart failure and being on Coreg is the "ONLY" beta blocker for a patient to be on. This is proven by sientific and medical evedience and recommended by the American College of Cardiologists. BECAREFUL what you are suggesting! |

I understand that there will be a generic version of coreg soon. Glaxco Smith Kline is heavily marketing their Coreg CR (long acting drug to protect their market interests and their profits. They are telling people that they are diconsintuing the regular coreg. What they are not saying is that it willbe available as a generic drug and doctors etc. are pushing the Coreg CR because it is taken once a day and will increase compliance. I think if people are going to take it twice a day they are not going to do it once a day either. It is all about money.

Unfortunately the doctor prescribed a rather specific and expensive Beta-Blocker BP med, not some potassium sparing hydrothiazide combo water-BP med. |

I am also experiencing the donut hole problem with Coreg. This has been prescribed for high blood pressure along with another bp medication which is generic. This is ridiculous to spend so much for this med....I am being told that there is no generic Coreg available. I am retired and on a fixed budget also as so many of us are...where do the Drs. think this money is going to come from anyway? Thank you

I hear you Pat. I seen the other day a lady attempting to fill her Rx and I thought she was about to have a heart attack. The cash register rang up $905 and some odd cents! |

In the treatment of CHF (congestive heart failure), coreg helps prevent the remodeling of heart tissue preserving heart function. There are other treatment options for high blood pressure.

My doc just took me off my 200mg metoprolol and started me on Coreg CR 40mg once a day. Basically, my BP is always high no matter what I'm on. My concern after reading this board however is the $. Coreg (I'm on samples at the moment) appears WAY more expensive than generic metoprolol. Even tho I'm having some issues adjusting to the Coreg and discontinuing the metoprolol, it does seem like the better med.(ie: I'm starting to feel better). My question is.... Is there a generic for this stuff? I'm not willing to pay more than 10X + more for this new drug, no matter how much better it MAY be. And that's what it looks like! I have Blue Cross PPO, but my deductible is high, so I know I'm going to be "hit" irregardless, unless I say NO to CoregCR.

Go to www.planet drugs.com . You can buy a generic version of Coreg. I have used it for over a year and it works fine. Allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
|
|
|
Also, remember that you can split the Coreg tablets. depending on the size of tablet you take, you can save $$$ doing this.
