I am 52 yrs old and was at the gym regularly before getting viral cardiomyopathy with left bundle branch block last August. The virus hit its peak in Dec/Jan. My Ejection FX was 21 in late Nov, 17 in Feb and 26 in August of this year. I was started on 6.25 Coreg in December. Also was sick enough that I could not eat and dropped 15 lbs in about 2 weeks. My blood pressure has always been on the low side so when they started me on 6.25 instead of the rec 3.125 it was not a happy time. I could not walk across a room without sitting down. Could not sit up for over 15 minutes. Several times experienced white light vision as the medication reduced by heart rate and blood pressure too much. Fortunately I had a really good GP who took me off the coreg. My Great Cardiologist was not happy but he kept me off for a month. During that time I started walking and getting my functioning level up. The painful coldness and other symptoms went away. After about a month off (my resting heart rate was 122) my Cardiologist put me on 3.125 for a month. Slowly raised to 40CR. Second go round had none of the side effects. The initial 15lb weight loss was back on by March. Since then I have gained about 5 lbs. And my trainer measured me last month and had put back on 2 inches at waist hips etc. I attributed this too not working out. Last week I had a bi-ventricular pacemaker and defib unit installed. They increased the Coreg to 80CR. I had cold feet and felt tired the first day or so but found walking and getting heart rate up diminishes the symptoms. I have read with interest the weight gain people have had with Coreg. Hope it does not go on forever. Good Luck to all. Deb

Age 44...Gaining so much weight on Coreg. 10 lbs in 8 weeks and I work out every day and eat 1300 calories...I'm 5 ft 10 inches and normally weigh 150 lbs and I've noticed that my waist has grown like 3 inches... I've never had any problems but my doctor put me on 20 mg of Coreg and an ACE inhibitor 2 months ago as my ejection factor was 40%- My twin sister had some chest pains and problems with her chest so I just wanted to get checked out...they said virus or hereditary...I've never even had chest pains or any problems until I took medication. I want to go off of it as I'm so sleepy and sometimes suffer from depression and lack of energy - especially when I do the treadmill. I'm used to walking 4 miles a day pluse some handweights and felt totally fine before doctor put me on drugs. I have perfect cholesterol, no blockages or anything...Has anyone gone off of medicine with success? Any other twins out there? Do you know if eating disorders from the past cause heart problems? Would love feedback as now I feel like an old lady and before I took Coreg I felt fine!
I have DCM and I am on 12.5 milligrams of Coreg twice a day. We have cardiomyopathy in my family - my dad had it and it went into CHF about twenty years ago . He passed away from cancer due to the favct that he could not take high dosages of chemotherapy. I just discovered my cardiomyopathy in MArch-I was having palpitations .

My EF is 40-45% and my heart is slightly enlarged. My brother and sister both need to get checked. I have had my three children checked with echos and they are fine. They will have to be rechecked every two years. I would think that eating disorders from the past would be a big issue. That can really harm your body . Hope things get better with the weight. I cannot seem to loose weight and I am exercising daily. I feel tired quite a bit on Coreg and have memory loss.

I am on low dose COREG for Premature Ventricular Contractions ( skipped beats) which occur constantly. I have heard of serious side effects from this drug. Weight gain- which can be substancial. I am not sure if it's from water wgt. or food consumed. I have also been very tired which strangely occurs many hours after my last daily dose. Can anyone advise me on their side effect experiences AND the weight gain? Thanks so much!
I was on a ltte dose of Coreg 6.5 mg 2X aday and hated it. Was tired and lethargic and took me forever to get out of bed. I cut the dose down to 1/2 (without docs knowledge) for about four months and was feeling better. I went ot my cardio doc and told him about the side effects and cutting the dosage. He felt I was not getting any benefit from amount I was taking and he got me to try a new 24 hour release 10mg dosage. Well I've bee on that for about three weeks and was doing pretty good but recently I have been gaining weight quickly and I feel exhausted about mid morning and pretty crapy most of the day. I think I'm going to switch to something else.

I have been on Coreg now for 10 months. I take 40mg per day. I have gained 20 pounds on this medicine but it has helped my EF to increase.

I disliked the medicine so much that at one point I tried to ween myself slowly by reducing to 25mg. After about the third day my hear started feeling weird so I went back to the 40mg and my heart started to feel ok again after approx 3 more days.

Bottom line for me is the Coreg is helping the heart but adding pounds to the mid seciton...It can be very depressing at times. I try to diet but it just doesnt seem to work. The weight gain has stopped at 20 pounds as long as I workout and watch what I eat. EF is at 55%.

I started taking Coreg CR 40 mg this week for high BP. I take it at night and have not had a problem with having any side affects. Has anyone had any dealings with the Coreg CR and what side affects might I expect. I have heard alot of mixed comments about side effects and am not sure what to expect.

I'm 48 I take Coreg 25 mg twice a day. I can control my weight only if I watch what I do. My problem is I can not get a erection and the doctor will not give me anything for it. He also has me on 10 mg of Norvasc and a water pill.

Also taking lower dose (3.125 of Coreg) but was on it twice a day for just a short tine as due to dizziness, I took my self off the early day time tab and now only once when going to bed (along with Altace) so I don't notice the side affects.
Doctor was aware of my cutting back.

I have been on Coreg for about 6 years now 25 mg twice a day. I just found the Generic and assume it's the same. My local Walgreens substituted it and now Wal Mart has it on it's $4 list. Anyway the first time I took it I had flashes and got dizzy. After about a week it settled down and now all I get is tired about two hours after I take it. I've had no weight gain and in fact have lost weight but I cut out carbs due to type 2 diabetes.

I am 70 and on COREG since heart attack in January 2007. The other drugs are: Lisonopril, Lipitor, and Coumadin. The recovery proceeds very well. Cardiologists at Cleveland Clinic explained the possible negative side effects in detail, including the tendency to black out following a rapid change of position. The latter is the only side effect that manifested itself so far. I only have experienced this phenomenon when rapidly changing position, as for example standing up.
I would think, at my age it is a small price to pay, indeed.

I have now had my dose of Coreg lowered to 3.125 twice a day. My dr. has finally said that the new studies with Coreg indicate that people gain weight...all of us on this website already knew that! I've gained around my middle...never had that problem before. I work out daily and I've dropped 2 pounds. It is a real effort to lose anything...with the holidays coming I'm sure to regain that 2 pounds if I don't watch everything I eat. Good news is that my heart function is where it should be. Hope you are doing well.

My Dr. changed my dosage of Coreg CR to 80 mg per day. The 40 mg did not control my BP. My BP is still in the 180/90's. I have had hypertension for 8 years but no medication seems to keep it under control. I find that I have incontinence real bad since starting the Coreg and wondered if anyone else has had this as a side affect. I have also started gaining some weight but have been walking daily to try to keep it under control In reading all your posts I did notice that weight gain is a side affect. What in this medication causes this?

I have also noticed the generic makes me not feel as well. Has anyone else felt that way?

I'm currently taking 50mg twice daily for afib and borderline high blood pressure. I have gained about 15 lb. in the last 4 years but I seem to be able to control that with the low carb diet.. I would love to get my weight back to normal, any suggestions? I don't have a weak heart, just bad electical impulses. My ejection fraction is currently 65+ with a blood pressure of 110/70.
With all of the side effects, should I consider getting on something else? By the way, I didn't see anyone listed that takes as much coreg as I do!!
Oops! Also, I have had thigh pain since I started taking coreg. Any connections?

I use Coreg CR instead of Coreg. The extended release is so much easier to tolerate.

am 37, diagnosed with low ejection fraction 45%. puton 60 mgof coreg. have been tired, some light headedness mostly when i exercise. i write down everything i eat and have gained four pounds from coreg.. not much but looking at my diet journal from last year and having basically consumed the same exact amount of calories this year the comparison is easy to see. last year i dropped 24 lbs. i have no doubt that the weight gain is due to the coreg
