Looking to find anyone who has had a family member suffer from pulmonary toxicity amiodarone toxicity from pacerone and to discuss your story and details.

Secondly, looking for any physician or employee of a physician's office or hospital who can tell me whether upsher smith, manuf for pacerone, has suggested or recommended amiodarone for atrial fib or arrythmia, and what the reps have said or not said about the dangers of toxicity or using it for off label use.

My father died from pulmonary toxicity due to pacerone. I would not want anyone to go through what my dad and my family went through due to his being on this very dangerous drug. We were completely unaware of anything of this magnitude being a possibility when he was prescribed this drug.

I am so sorry for your loss. How long did your father take the drug Pacerone? You should consider taking legal action. This drug is very dangerous. I have been on it for a year, and it has caused so many side effects, it is scary.

My mother has been on Amioderone for a very long time and is now in ICU with Pulminary Fibrosis and Drug toxicity, I had no idea of the horrible side effects of this drug and am getting double talk from all her doctors. I need help with this. She is slowly dying from this drug. Where is the lawsuit against the drug company? I have been searching the internet and cannot find any class action suit? HELP!

My father died from Amiodarone Pulmonary Toxicity on February 20, 2004. Today is the 5th anniversary of his death. Death from Amiodarone. How many deaths does there have to be, how many hearts broken, before something will be done. My father was a retired Medical Doctor, OB-GYN and neither he nor his Cardiologist thought his dry cough was a warning symptom that he was developing lung damage due to Amiodarone. The FDA suggested that Wyeth put out a stronger warning about lung damage in 2003. Wyeth did not release the updated warning until 9 months after my Father died. I just want to make as many people aware that if taking this drug, you develop a cough, have it investigated immediately. My father had a normal CT scan of the lungs just weeks before he woke up 1 day unable to breath. Amiodarone was NOT approved by the FDA for the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. If anyone develops adverse reactions, please report to the FDA, so that they will be better informed regarding the severity/frequency of adverse reactions with this drug. Since I started writing about this, about 5 years ago, I have been notified by numerous people of their tragic stories related to losing a loved one to Amiodarone. Wyeth procrastinated putting the revised warning out until my story ran in 17 newspapers. The public needs to fight to change laws, that when the FDA suggests a revision to a warning, that the Pharmaceutical companies are required to get the information out to the public within a certain timeframe. It took them over a year. I feel that the only reason why they delayed publishing the new warning was fear of profit loss, as I have been informed that they made over 3 billion dollars for the use of this drug for Atrial Fibrillation

My father died on feb 6, 2009 from pulmonary fibrosis caused by amiodarone. He had a pacemaker/defribr implanted in May, 2008, at which time he also began taking amiodarone. We were NEVER given any warnings of the dangers of this drug. He was seen by two different cardiologists who made nothing out of his concern for the crackling he felt and heard in his lungs for the past six months. He was admitted to the hospital on January 4, 2009 for what they thought was CHF only to find out that his lungs had been poisoned. He was in the hopsital for a month and in ICU where he needed to be intubated at the very end. He suffered so much. The grief that his family is dealing with having to watch him die literally gasping for his last breath, is unbearable. I am furious not only at the drug company but at his doctors for their cavalier attitutde in prescribing this drug. Has anyone had any success in reporting information to the FDA or in filing a wrongful death suite?

My father is in the hospital now with amniodarone lung toxicity. He was given pacerone after heart surgery in January. I thought it was odd that after his surgery he was having trouble getting off of the oxygen. 10 days ago he was admitted into the hospital for what doctors thought was pneumonia. The antibiotics did nothing. They also began treating him for amniodarone lung toxicity (with steroids). Nothing is helping. He is getting worse and worse. He was just moved from ICU into a regular room, but not because he is getting better. I think it's because they can't help him. I can't describe the nightmare this is for him and our family. Watching him slowly lose his ability to breath is unbearable. We had no idea this could happen. I can't believe this is happening. We are so angry and so sad. Having watched him suffer through open heart surgery and then finding out it was for nothing is horrific. What can we do?

My husband died from amiodarone lung toxicity on March 26, 2009. He went into the hospital on 1/21/09 which was thought to be congestive heart failure. He suffered a very terrible death from this lung fibrosis. We never knew of the fatal side effects of this drug. My family watched him go on life support, suffer seizures from lack of oxygen then to his brain. He also had a pacemaker/defribulator. We are going to try our hardest to warn people about this and to try to regulate this drug so that lung functioning tests be done at least every 6 months. My husband was on the drug for 5 years and was only given 2 lung functioning tests. We do not want another family to go through this kind of horror.

My dad died March 26,2009. He walked into a hospital on 1/21/09 complaining of shortness of breath. They admitted him with the thoughts he had congestive heart failure but as the breathing became worse the doctors
informed us that he had amiodarone lung toxicity---a fatal side effect that
we were totally unaware of. For 10 long weeks my father suffered horribly.
He had to be put on a ventilator. He suffered the most horrible death. He
went from a man who was driving and living one day to a man in ICU that
could not swallow, eat, drink, breath, sit up, walk, or speak. He had permanent lung fibrosis from this drug. Something must
be done so that another family doesn't have to lose a loved one to such a devastating death. We lost not only my dad, but a husband of 45 years, a grandpa of 7 children that miss him terribly. He was on this drug for 5 years and only had 2 lung functioning tests. The doctors, the drug makers need to regulate this drug so that people must have lung functioning tests before they can get a new prescription. We need to do
something to make these doctors and drug makers more responsible for their patients. There are so many other people out there that are currently
taking this drug that have no idea (like my dad) the very dangerous and
fatal side effects of amiodarone. My sympathy goes out to all of the families that have gone through the same nightmare that we just went through and to the people that have died from this drug may you now rest in peace after suffering such a horrible death. And to my dad, I promise I
will try my hardest to inform people about the fatal effects of this drug and that we can hopefully can make a difference in the regulation and distribution of this drug, amiodarone.

Today is April 4th. My dad died on April 2nd after having taken pacerone after open heart surgery. We brought him home on Wednesday and he died on Thursday. I can't believe this happened to him. I am so sad. I miss him so much. I really believe that this didn't need to happen. I also want inform people about this drug and the horrible things that can happen from taking it. Right now I am deep in the grieving process. His funeral is set for Monday and the viewing is tomorrow. I am truelly sorry for the people who are experiencing this horror or have experienced this horror. I want to inform others and prevent this from happening to other families. My father is slowly wasting away due to amiodarone pulmonary toxicity. Were you sucessful in finding legal action? I am waiting on a local attorney to "get back with me" and feeling pretty negative. We were given no warnings either and it took 2 years to get a diagnosis. Please get back with me; this drug needs to be legally addressed.

My father had bypass surgery in Nov 06, he was given amiodarone without any warning and we were never informed of an arrythmia even occuring. He had lung problems from the start and wasted away until we were told of the amiodarone pulmonary toxicity in Nov 08. He is slowly dying. I want legal action! He wants legal action and I hope he lives to see it. I am angry at both the doctors for perscribing and the FDA and their lack of response to my report. Did you find any legal path to take?

jill i am so sorry of your dad,s illness. i just lost my husband weeks ago from amiodarone toxcity. he died a horrible destuction of every part of his body from this medication. it is even hard for me to write at this time. he was 10 weeks in hospitals. it was diagnozed as amiodarone toxcity. we never heard of this sideeffect. we are seeking legal action. i will advise you of the outcome. we need more people to stand together to be notified of life threathning effects of drugs. excuse me i am not a good computer person,

JILL I AM SORRY FOR WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH RIGHT NOW. MY HUSBAND WAS 67 YEARS OLD. HE WAS ON 200mg OF AMIODARONE FOR 5 YEARS. WE WERE NEVER TOLD ABOUT LUNG FIBROSIS AND TOTAL LUNG DAMAGE FROM AMIODARONE . WHEN THEY SAID HE HAD AMIODARONE TOXCITY WE WERE SHOCKED. Please contact me....I had to watch my mother die a slow and horrible death from this horrible drug....she woke up on January 10, 2009 with shortness of breath and died in ICU 20 days later.
What can be done so one more person does not suffer as our family has suffered? We MUST do something. My mother was an RN and helped people alleviate suffering her entire adult life and her life ended in the worst way possible with the worst suffering imaginable.
This cannot happen to one more human being.

. I am so sorry to hear of your loss..I know the horrible effects of amiodarone toxcity. My husband died on march 26th from amiodarone toxiicity after 10 weeks in hospitals, mostly in an ICU unit , I am in such a sad state right now that is so hard for me to write. We never heard of amiodarone toxicity before ,we never heard of it as a side effect until we looked up on a computer, He had all the symptoms but no doctor or hospital he was in never checked out his lungs,always attributing problems to heart failure.
