I had some soft stools while taking it, but I've been off the medicine for about 5 days. The last two days I have had diarhea. Today was worse than yesterday. Does anyone know if the symptoms just get progressively worse or if they eventually clear up? Hi John, I went on clindomyacin in July of this year, and it has been a nightmare.I have had unbelievable gas (both ends),racing heart, chest pains and spasm's.For six weeks I couldn't do anything strenuous as it would bring on the spasm's in my throat and pressure in my chest.I really thought I was going to have a heart attack. Here it is three months later and most of the symptons have subsided. I still have the gas about thirty minutes after eating. At least i can get around now and I seem to be getting better.I only took four doses and then had it changed....too late!!! I can only pray it didn't do any permanent damage.I hope this helps.I have also been praying alot.

I know it is the drug because I have never felt this way before in my life. I regret the day that I took this drug, I am only hoping that I get better soon because this is consuming me. I am going to follow up with my primary doctor this week if I do not feel better. Hi Nikki I have gone through the same thing as you and more.I too went to the emergency room and had the ekg and blood work come back negative.Since this past July up until mid September I have literally felt like I was dying. I am starting to feel better as of a couple weeks ago.I have had terrible anxiety and a racing heartbeat that is so bad it wakes me up.I can't believe my doctor prescibed this for a minor abcess. It's my fault though for trusting her without checking this drug for myself. You should start feeling better soon, but it is a long slow process.God bless and take care.

Hi, folks -
I don't know if this will help or not. Was prescribed the devil's advocate in early August for an infected molar, took it for three weeks. At the end of that three weeks I started feeling very poorly - running to the ladies' room and so on.
On a Monday a.m.(I teach at a local college) almost passed out from the cramping - passing blood, etc. Stopped the meds.
We're in October now, yogurt hasn't helped (wasn't eating 'live cultures')- acidomopholous (whatever) helped only a bit, 1 billion count.
Started last night with a probiotic formula from a local vitamin store, 15 billion count twice a day. Feeling better, though 'it' isn't gone.
I wish you all well, do your research. This stuff is nasty... I'll be increasing my probiotic intake to 45 billion soon.

Same thing happened to me was prescribed the drug for a root canal, needless to say I've never been sicker and I wish I would have stopped the medication as soon as I felt the diarrhea coming on. It feels like its unstoppable now and now I'm on a different ant-biotic and I feel absolutly lie dying, I'm weak, tired, nauseated, zI have heartburn, diarrhea, and never again will I take an anti-biotic. I'm goingto see a naturopath... done with this crazy meds that make you worse...

I want to let the people know my positive experience with this drug, 300mg 3 times a day for 2 weeks.
Thanks to some posters here, I took their advice and started with probiotics, Viactive yogurt and Danavtive drink. I also took the drug with food and plenty water, never in empty stomach as well as not lie down 30 minuets.
I experienced just a mild diarrhea and a weird taste in my mouth once. But otherwise I didn't get sick like who those had an awful experience.
Pharmacists and doctors need to advise the patients about side-effects and how to prevent them. So there won't be so many people who get sick from this drug.

I just thought I would update from my last post. My 14 year old daughter has been taking Clindamycin since last Sunday. I was worried about her high dosage (she's on 1200 mg per day for ten days), but so far she has done great with it. Her MRSA seems to be going away--the sore was gone within 48 hours of starting the medicine. She had indigestion one night, but it went away. She should finish the medicine next Tuesday, so I'm hopeful she will continue to have good luck with it.
I have been very careful to set the alarm and make sure she takes it at exactly 6 hour intervals. It's been a pain, but we really want her MRSA to be gone and stay gone.
I'll post again after she has finished all of her medicine to let you all know if she ended up with any negative side effects.

On the third day I developed severe muscular pain like electrical muscular cramps in the right upper quadrant of my back from my ear down, My right arm would be inoperable and the pain was a 10. It would come and go and was controlled by Tylenol. I don't take pain medications or anything with asprin. The Tylenol would work for a few hours so I could sleep. When I finished the bottle of pills the pain left. I did experience some joint pain all down the right side, but nothing like the pain in my back.

i was perscribed clindamycin...and so far, the only side effect i have is terrible acid reflux!! i alredy have acid reflux, so when my esphogus was on fire immediately after taking my two pills (150 mg each), which i take every 6 hours, i recognized the acid. so i take xantac 150 mg in the morning and at night, and i take a chewable antacid with my antibiotic. this is probably not a good idea, but it helped tremendously. pepcid complete, i/2 before the pills, and the other half after...it eliminated the burn, calmed the acid and made it the experience less painful. i recommend pepcid to those wioth burning throats.
as for the loose bowels and cheast pains, nope. but think about it, maybe the chest pains come from the acid...
hope this helps someone :)

I have been on Clindamycin for 2wks now and I have 2 more wks to go. I am taking 3 pills 150mg every 6hrs. I am having no problems . Here is what I do. 4am clindamyacin pills-6am I take 1-50 billion probiotic pill and I drink a 8oz. glass of Kefir probiotic drink. 10am clindamycin- 12pm- 1 probiotic pill. 4pm-clindamycin( I always drink 8-16oz. of water w/clind. pill and I always stay sitting up 30 min.) 6pm I drink 8oz. of probiotic drink. I was worried about this medicine also so I did some research on it and this seems to work for me.I do also eat Activia yogurt every morning and I eat cottage cheese each day.I have had no heartburn or diarrhea. My stools have softened a little and I do feel that if I was not putting all of this "good bacteria" back into my body then I would be in trouble. I am staying on top of this with my probiotics. I never knew about probiotics until I did the research on this medicine. I am taking this medicine for a chronic sinus infection. My prayers are with all of you who are having side effects. This is a scary drug. But I do recommend you try putting these probiotics into your daily routine with your clindamycin.

My only side effect from taking this was loss of appetite and bad breath lol. GL to all of you that are having problems. Oh and to the people saying you recommend everyone not take a drug....yeah no. You're not a doctor and there is always someone that will have an adverse reaction. Sucks that it was you but c'est la vie.

I'm happy to see that I'm not nuts. My dentist gave me this crap after a root canal. I took three of the pills and decided the horrible burning in my chest (I wouldn't really describe it as heartburn, this was a completely different sensation), the throat constriction and the shortness of breath wasn't worth it, and quit taking it. After a recent follow up visit for an unrelated matter, he tried to give it to me again. I told him "No thanks, give me something else" and explained the problem I'd had, to which he indignantly sniffed, "I've never heard of such a thing". I've never had any allergic reactions to any medicine, including penicillin. Some doctors think they know it all!

I just started a new job, but my insurance has not kicked in. I found a free clinic where they prescribed the Clindamycin, but they don't have the facilities to do lab testing to see if my infection is MRSA related. I wanted to point out that if the bacteria is in my bloodstream, then the bacteria itself can cause cardiovascular, kidney, liver, and other organ problems that are not neccessarily a direct result of the Clindamycin usage. After having poor results on 2 different antibiotics Doxycycl & Cephalexin) for a horrid skin infection, I was put on Clindamycin. After 2 days on this, I had rapid heartbeat and low temp. I got off of it, but went back on 2 days later, after I considered that something else may be causing the symptoms. Boy, am I glad I got back on it! My problem was that I became sensitive to any stimulants, including my beloved coffee! Alas! Anyway, the clindamycin is working to clear the infection - 300mg 3x day. My heart beats fast when I exert myself, but I seem to be getting a little better every day. I think that folks should remember that when their immune systems are compromised, things like caffeine, acidic foods, sugar, and nicotine can also cause side effects. I am eating a variety of yogurts at least 2x/day, with little to no gastric side effects. I cannot tolerate more than a cup of coffee, and I can't walk more than a block without breaking out into hives. I have started keeping a health journal to see what I can and can not tolerate. This includes my eating habits, pulse, temperature, activities, and symptoms throughout each day. I would suggest the same thing for everyone who is having health issues, whether they are on clindamycin or not.

Do not use this poison drug. I got it after having a root canal. I ended up with the most horrid itch all over my body, the worst being in my vaginal area. This is pure torture. I could slap this dentist. Surely there were other options.

I was recently prescribed this 150mg 4 x day. I'm not having the usual bad side effects of stomach but mild loose bowels. However, I'm having heart palpitations, sweating, leg weakness and out of breath feeling. I felt faint at work and can't stand for long periods. I immediately feel exhausted and sleepy after taking the pill and can't keep my eyes open. Also a severe bad metallic taste in my mouth. I've noticed some mild itching but no hives yet. I've only been on it 3 days and I am going to stop today before I see my doctor. From a bad experience with Sulfa I feel my symptoms are similar to that and it took me days to recover that episode. This is a serious drug. I wonder who can tolerate it. BTW I'm also on chemo so maybe the two together are too much. Good luck If Nikki wrote: <quoted text> I am having the same reactions, I stopped taking the drug a week ago and I still feel heart palpitations it scared me so much I went to the ER, they did an EKG and chest Xray, all types of lab work and said the results were normal, I told the DR I am having an allergic reaction and she stated that she has never heard of Clindamyacin causing heart palpitations and they discharged me. Topical clindamycin caused me much grief. Here were my side effects: severe fatigue, mild depression, bloating, severe abdominal pain and spasms, and finally bloody stools. I stopped using it after the bloody stools come on. I started immediately taking probiotics and eatig greek yogurt. I started feeling better almost overnight. This is a nightmare drug!!!!! I am reporting this drug and my side effects to the FDA. There number is 1800-FDA-1088. This drug should be taken off of the market.
