I am 19 yrs. old and started a 150g/6hrs. Clindamycin prescription after I had a root canal. I started about a week ago and now nearing the end of this horrid antibiotic. Through this time I have had mild diarrhea but it was pretty much exclusive. Since I started eating Activia yogurt after it was recommended by my doctor and since then the diarrhea has been even milder.
However, recently I began to experience mild chest pains. These could be the result of gas build up(I do have heart burn right now), but, being young, I am completely new to this potent of a antibiotic. The chest pains have put some fright in me and makes me want to stop the medication... but I am only two more days away from ending the prescription.
Should I just stop now with the pain... or would it be safe to go the extra mile and finish it.
All the warnings and stories have put me into some fright.
Thank you!

I will never, ever take this antibiotic again. I got deathly ill from this. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days, on IV, had to have a private room because I was highly contagious, and also infectious disease doctors came to see me. I had collitis, diarrhea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, lost 20 lbs for not eating or drinking for almost 2 months. Had to go on vancomyicin (which is the only antibiotic to cure this). Went on this antibiotic for 7 days (cost was $500.00), and 4 days got a relapse. Had to go back on again ($700.00), and so far have been ok for almost 3 weeks. I almost died, and I highly recommend never to take clindamycin.

For more than 50 years I've been told "YOGURT!".
Regardless, by the 2nd to 3rd day of taking ANY antibiotic
I too, sufferred from the gas pains described, which can and have extended as high as my chest.
Forget the yogurt!!!
If Acidophillus was never mentioned to me, by a pharmacist, as a TRUE means to ward off the pains millions suffer from ingesting antibiotics, I'd be sitting on the Johnat this very minute. It TRUELY is a "wonder"!
If you are loading up on yogurt, and ALSO are somewhat lactose intolerant, Acidophillus IS THE thing to take!!!
I advise taking 2 Acidophillus pills (which appear tocome in a fairly standard dose, for every 500 milligrams of ANYantibiotic) for starters.
With Acidophillus, I can ACTUALLY ingest megadoses of prescribed antibiotics WITH LITERALLY NOT A SINGLE BITE TO EAT, THE ENTIRE DAY!----
Plezse do note that I supplement EVERY dose
of antibiotic with AT LEAST 4 to 8 milligrams of Immodium.(And, no... it does NOT adversely effect me to take that much Immodium, WHILE I'm taking an
antibiotic.) You will find you may or may not need any... I find by day 3 of taking an antibiotic with Acidophillus, that it keeps my bowels from being loose, and calms my stomach.
I can only say Acidophillus is TRUELY night and day compared to taking yogurt, wether or not you're lactose slightly intolerant, and certainly what ANYONE WHOM IS lactose intolerant SHOULD be taking with the antibiotic.
I can't understand why Acidophillus was "kept secret" from
me for 50 years! It's truely amazing, as I have a very sesitive stomach and ALLWAYS sufferred froEVERY antibiotic EVER prescribed, UNTIL now.--- This is the real thing folks. If you need yogurt, foget it, and pick up a bottle of the stuff. BTW. It has a rather fascinating history, and you will find a few kinds of it are available, dependening upon where you shop.
Best of luck, and stop sufferring from that yogurt garbage. It did effectively nothing, except give me loose bowels, and, VERY slight relief from antibiotics. I can't say which wzs worse, the gallons of yogurt or the
antibiotics!!! YOU HAVE A CHOICE!!! Try it!

See my blog: http://activia-adverse-events.blogspot.com/

I had a REAL BAD stomach ache six days after eating Activia.

Read the blog ... if my wife got me to the emergency room 20 minutes later, I would NOT be writing this now!

Clindamycin (http://www.originaldrugs.com/ medicine/clindamycin.shtml) has been associated with severe colitis which may end fatally. This antibiotic is indicated only for severe conditions.

I was thinking...all those people out there who take clindamycin and have no adverse side effects probably don't post their experiences on forums.

All I read about is horror stories.

I was perscribed Clindamycin and took only one pill. As soon as it was in my body my throat became constricted, I felt like my chest was going to explode. I was driving at the time and thought I was going to have a heart attack.

I stopped taking that antibiotic but when I swallow warm or hot liquids, I feel like my esophogus is raw, as if I have swollowed a large object and it hurts all the way down. I hope this heals. I would not recommend this to anyone.

I'm having the same problems swallowing. It kills me! Has anyone else had a good experience with Acidophillus? Will Maalox type meds help? I can't even eat because it feels like I'm swallowing a baseball.

I am in the same predicament as you! Whenever I eat, it feels like a burning baseball is going down my throat. My heart feels like it's hardening, and my stomach is turning inside out. I have about 5 more pills to take...and they highly recommended me to finish the entire prescription. Sorry I can't offer much advice, but console you by letting you know that I'm feeling the exact same crappy way. I'll probably give them a ring tomorrow. Until then, I'm not taking another one tonight.

Am I the rare exception? I'm on clindamycin a for very painful resistant staph (MRSA) infection -- two other antibiotics did not do the trick (dicloxacillin and Septra). So far (4th day) only side-effect is gas, and the infection is going away. I admit, I do sit up for 30 minutes after taking each capsule. My wife read about that in the fine-print info sheet included from the pharmacy and told me about it. Only other factor is that I also take 20 mg of prilosec each day for reflux -- not sure if that helps keep things from going sour? Very best of luck to those of you who are suffering worse effects, but for me, no complaints.

I am on my 5th day of cindamycin ..5 days more to go. I have a resistant infection and this is the 3rd antibotic prescripted since 7-25. I do feel terrible but ..I am taking acidophillus between doses and that helps. No sever reactions and seems to be helping the infection. I have a salivary gland infection.

I am Just starting Clindamycin 150mg 1x day. For Cellulitis on leg since Feb.14 Been in hospital since for it on Iv's Now leg is starting up again and Dr. put me on this as a program over months to come. What will I expect. Thought it should be cleared up before I go on this program. Was cleared, so I thought, and skin was clearing then four days later it started up. Been always red, blistering and once crusted all overe about 4 by 2". Plastic surgerion took it the crusting scabs off and leg look good. But now 2 weeks later I am starting again. What do you think of the program taking 1 a day for months? I really need help. This has been going on since Feb. In hospital 3x 6 d ays, 9 days and 12 days. After 2 weeks starts rite up again. Does anyone know about this program?

I took two prescribed doses of cleocin. My throat feels swollen. I can hardly swallow and the heartburn was not worth the cure. All this for an abcessed tooth. Bad medicine.
